Chapter 11: Kitty fever

The morning sun rose over St. Louis yet again as the streets slowly grew busy full of people going about their daily businesses.

Our favorite female cat Ivy was peacefully dozing in her bedroom before she were to wake up in the next 10 more minutes, when suddenly...

"Eh, Ah-CHOO! Sniff."

A slightly loud sneeze coming from outside the bedroom causes Ivy to stir a little in her sleep but not fully wake up yet.

"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH!"

Three loud coughs followed after the sneeze this time causing Ivy to rise up from her slumber and rub her eyes.

"Mmmm, *Yawn!* Goodness what's all the noise?" Ivy asked herself in a groggy state

"Ah-CHOO! COUGH, COUGH!"

The sneezing and coughing occured again making Ivy more concerned as she got out of her bed and left her room to go out to the kitchen area. To her slight surprise, she finds Theo already awake and sitting at the dining table in his pajamas with a glass of water in front of him. What stood out oddly was the young boy didn't look too well. He was slouched over with his head hanging and his triangular cat ears slightly drooping down. His little pink nose also looked pretty wet from snot and mucus. Ivy could see this and grew a little worried. Yesterday night, Theo was bashfully having fun at the Lackadaisy, now today he looked dull and half dead.

"Theo? You're up a little early. Is everything alright?" Ivy asked softly as she went and knelt down next to the boy in his chair

Theo slowly and tiredly raised his head and turned to look at Ivy in her eyes and did his best to respond. Ivy let out a small gasp when she saw Theo's once bright blue eyes were now looking pale like faded paint.

"Oh...H-Hi Miss Pepper. *Sniff* I-...I don't feel to great today." Theo sniffed

"Oh is that so? Do you have a tummy ache or something?" Ivy asked as she caringly petted Theo behind his ears with her left paw while rubbing his belly with her right paw

"I just- I...Eh EH ACHOO!" Theo sneezed loudly making Ivy flinch back a little

"Woah goodness, Bless you." Ivy said

After the sneeze, Theo sniffs up his messy mucus while rubbing his dull eyes. Ivy gently puts her paw up against the poor boy's forehead and the touch felt like a hot stove.

"Oh my! Sweety, you are burning up pretty bad. You're having a fever." Ivy exclaimed

"*Sniffle* Uh F-Fever?" Theo asked looking at Ivy again

"Oh yes. You might have a flu, and a pretty nasty one by the looks of it. Your head is hot as a boiled lobster. We gotta get you nursed back to health you poor thing." Ivy said as she grabbed Theo's paws and gently helped him off the dining chair to face her

"*Cough Cough!* But- *Sniff* But only my mommy knew how to take care of me when I got sick. Do you know how to help me with this?" Theo asked worriedly

"Of course I do kiddo, taking care of a cold or fever is simple as one two three. You just need plenty of medicine and delicious hot soup. I will make sure you get better in a flash and feel good as new." Ivy assured with a caring smile while ruffling the boy's cheeks

"*Sniff* O-Okay Miss Pepper. Whatever you say." Theo said

"Okay then. The first thing we need to do is get you to a clinic and give you a thorough checkup." Ivy said

"A clinic? You mean like a doc-Eh AH ACHOO!" Theo sneezed mid sentence

"If you were going to say doctor than yes. We have to make sure what you have is only just a common flu and nothing worse. So let's get dressed up." Ivy said

Time skip to 30 minutes later

After getting dressed up in warm coats and leaving the apartment, Ivy and Theo were now at a small downtown medical clinic. They sat together in the small waiting room waiting to be called while a female nurse cat in a white dress sat at her front desk nearby filling out papers. Poor Theo continued sneezing and coughing up a storm as Ivy sat next to him holding a box of tissues for him.

Finally the clinic doctor came out to the waiting room and requested Ivy and Theo to follow him into the examining room. The doctor was a tall male Maine Coon cat who was well dressed with a monocle over his left eye and a small lit cigar in his mouth. He also had a small reflex hammer in the pocket of his vest.

Cut to the fully equipped examining room

Theo was sitting on the edge of a sturdy table as the doctor stood in front of him holding a tongue depressor stick in his mouth. Ivy was standing aside watching everything.

"Hmmmm...MmHmm." The doctor hummed as he studied the inside of Theo's mouth and peered down his throat

"Well doctor, is it just an ordinary cold?" Ivy asked anxiously

"Hmmm...Well Miss, I don't see anything too abnormal about your child here. The throat inflamation looks relatively minor and all the other symptoms are pretty basic. So it's safe for me to say that this is something he can get through easily with simple remedies." The doctor diagnosed as he retracted the depressor stick out of Theo's mouth before taking a puff of his cigar

"Phew, I'm glad to hear that." Ivy smiled

The doctor then picked up a nearby clipboard and started filling out some paper work.

"Now tell me Miss, are you the boy's mother?" The doctor asked as he scribbled away with his pencil

"Uhhh...No, I am his nanny. His Mom is currently out of town at the moment." Ivy answered with a convincing smile

"Hmmm...I see." The doctor said buying Ivy's answer before he put down his clipboard and walked over to a nearby cabinet containing lots of medicine bottles and jars of all kinds

The doctor opens up the cabinet and takes out a small brown bottle of cough syrup substance before walking back and handing it to Ivy.

"Here you go. Give him one teaspoon of this every two hours and the illness should slowly subside. Come back to get more if necessary." The doctor instructed

Ivy closely inspected the bottle before thanking the doctor and leaving the clinic with Theo.
