"A nest!" Faith hissed, if she'd been a cat her tail would have been stiff and whipping with anger. "They've been here for a long time, by the smell." Glaring at the building that had once been a frat house on the campus of the University of California, Sunnydale. The smell was offensive.

"How many individuals do you think are in there?" Xander made himself stay calm, they needed a strategy to deal with a nest, just charging in would get them killed. That smell traveled a long way and hyenas had an incredible sense of smell anyway. Faith was both Slayer and human form hyena right now, still stronger then him and with a wider array of senses, which he willingly acknowledged, just as she acknowledged he seemed to have a near instinctive grasp of tactics and strategy and was equally willing to rely on it. So far they'd taken out over a dozen vampires in ones and twos, before picking up on the scent of this nest.

"Five scents." Faith answered.

"Let's get above them." Xander suggested. "They'll see us coming if we come in through one of the doors, but there should be a roof access, most buildings around here don't have a basement, demon bug lady's place being an exception. But if we can take them by surprise from above, we could take out one each and while the rest are recovering from the surprise, each take out a second."

"Leaving just one to play with." Faith decided she liked this plan and followed him as they circled the house looking for stairs and found them. Making their way to the roof they found a skylight and took in the scene below tham.

"She's in charge." Faith pointed at a female vampire about her height, just knowing, that one was the boss.

"You take her, I'll take the really big, dumb idiot." Xander indicated a vamp that looked he'd been a musclehead when he'd been human. "His strength means we need to take him out fast."

"Agreed." Neither hesitated, with a plan having been agreed to, they just jumped, crashing through the skylight and each landed on their target, bearing it to the ground and tearing off their heads. Xander's strength was greater than a Slayer's at present and Faith was still more then double his strength, the hyena having added to what she already had. Between one breath and the next, they were up and charging for the next nearest vampires. And than there just one. With a half grin, Xander stalked around it, probably for the first time since it rose a vampire, it was afraid and he could smell it and he liked that smell.

Faith paced around the other side until it was trapped between. "What are you?" The vampire demanded.

"Does it matter?" Faith answered. "Just run, I want to play cat and mouse. Boo!" She pretended to jump toward it and the vampire actually squeaked and ran.

"Oh goody." Xander's grin widen. "It's heading toward the zoo." As they let it get out the front door. "I'm thinking I'm in the mood to teach the lions who the real King and Queen are around here."

"Sounds yummy." Faith grinned back and loped toward the front door, following the vampire's scent. "Let's herd it that way, I don't want to waste too much energy, we're going to need it take on a lion."

They let the vampire think it had gotten away. A human could easily manage twenty miles an hour, a hyena double that and Slayers and vampires falling in-between those numbers. Right now with their longer legs, they could both outrun a hyena, plus humans were built for endurance. The combination made these two deadly predators. A vampire made for a fun game of cat and mouse.

But just before reaching the zoo they caught and together tore it apart. They easily jumped the stone fence that ran around the perimeter of the zoo. The noise level of the animals increased as they sensed the two extremely deadly predators starting to move through the zoo. They ignored the small animals and soon reached the male lion's enclosure. It stood on the other side of the high fence and glared defiantly at them. Hyenas were known to challenge lions over kills in the wild and though some hyenas died doing that, lions got killed too.

A lion was physically larger and stronger than a hyena, with a hyena having a stronger bite force. Pound for pound, the lion and Faith might be equal in strength right now. But Faith was human as well as hyena right now and humans are stronger together. She locked eyes with the lion while Xander circled around it, she was literally making herself vulnerable by distracting it. If she didn't trust Xander she'd never have put herself in this position. Xander landed on the lion's back, a double fist sized rock in his hands raised over his head and slammed it down, smashing the lion's head in. Faith covered the distance in a single leap and drove her fist straight into its throat, punching through the soft tissue and destroying most of it. It spasmed into its death.

"Lunch time." Xander announced with a smirk.

"Definitely yummy." Faith smirked back.

A/N Most humans run at five to ten miles an hour and are capable of bursts of around twenty. Usain Bolt, current record holder, managed twenty seven miles an hour.

A hyena's average speed is around forty miles an hour for short periods. Credit Bostonzoodotcom.

Author is guessing at the speeds a vampire or a Slayer can achieve as the show never explicitly stated a number.
