A/N Almost nothing is known about Faith's first Watcher, Diana Dormer, she isn't even given a name until the comics come out. What is known is how she died and how upset Faith was when she told Buffy about it. But Gwendolyn Post deliberately tried to get close to Faith and isolate her from the group and used a firm, no nonsense, but caring approach. Given she targeted Faith I'm wondering if this approach was on purpose, maybe because she knew it was how Diana was as a person. Given how well Faith responded to this approach, it seems to have worked. Well, right up until Mrs. Post revealed her true intentions and then reverted to her own personality, an abusive bitch. As I've noted before, Faith had bad luck with Watchers, Diana died, Giles abandoned her and Mrs. Post tried to kill her.
But Diana's death hurt Faith, Faith cared about her and I'm choosing to believe it was because Diana cared about her.

Xander hovered anxiously over Faith, scared. She'd started to feel sick while they'd been out looking for something to eat and her skin felt hot when he touched her. He'd ended up carrying her back to the frat house when she collapsed. He had no idea what was wrong with her or how to help her and would have trouble even asking for help in his own current condition. He tried to make their nest as comfortable as he could, but now she was thrashing around and mumbling. He had no idea what she was trying to say and was getting more upset as time went on.
Which is the condition Diana and Jesse found them in.
"Dude, what are you doing?" Jesse demanded. "Do you have any idea how scared we've been? We couldn't find you, Diana had to use Magic to find Faith. What are you doing here?"
Xander growled.
"Huh?" Jesse stopped his barrage of questions and stared at his best friend. "Seriously, did you just growl at me? What's up with that?"
Xander bared his teeth and growled again at the male invading his nest.
"Jesse, leave. Now." Diana ordered. "If I'm not mistaken, he's possessed and he sees you as a problem."
"Me? Why am I problem?"
"He's guarding Faith and she looks sick. He isn't acting aggressively toward me, just you. He doesn't want another male around her."
"Seriously, Bro, you think I'm gonna make a play for your girl?"
"Jesse, if I'm right he's not aware of who we are, all he sees is another male near his sick mate. I need to contain them and attempt to dispossess them."
"What's Faith saying? It doesn't sound like English."
"It's not, it's Mandarin Chinese. Slayers sometimes dream about the lives of previous Slayers. Go outside, Jesse. Xander isn't in control of himself right now and you're in danger."
"Alright, I'll be right outside the door."
Xander didn't relax until Jesse had left the house, he could still smell him but he wasn't invading their nest anymore. He looked curiously at the older female and sniffed, her scent had traces of Faith's. He whined and allowed Diana to ease closer to the two teens.
"I have to contain you two, Xander." Diana spoke calmly, soothingly. "And figure out how to get whatever's in you two, out. Faith's Slayerness is fighting it and I don't know if it's strong enough to win. You've nearly been completely taken over yourself. The way you keep sniffing the air, I'm guessing it might be an animal spirit, which makes sense since you were at the zoo yesterday. But if I'm right and it is an animal, than you may even be smelling my emotions. I'm worried and I'm scared and I'm damn well going to fix this."
He whined slightly and anxiously nudged Faith.
"You're worried about her. I am too. There's a war going on inside her right now, unlike you. You're sort of melting with the spirit, mixing, becoming one. We're in danger of losing you both, her to death and you to insanity, an animal soul does not belong in a human body. It can't cope and neither can the human." As she spoke she worked her way around them in a circle, drawing Magic to form a containment field around them. "I'm prepared to fight for you both." She promised.
Xander had no idea what she was saying, the words made no sense, but her scent and her tone were reassuring. He whined again and indicated Faith.
"You want her safe, better. So do I. It's alright, Xander, I'm going to fix this." She completed the circle and stepped back. "And when we're done and you're both alright we're going to have a different conversation, because if I'm not mistaken, you and my little girl have been doing something that will necessitate several conversations, not the least of which involves the fact that I don't think you thought about protection."
Xander wasn't sure why he suddenly felt afraid, but the tone of the woman's voice had change and he did the only thing he could think of because now he was afraid for himself.
He whimpered.
