Upon getting the phone call about the accident sometimes later, Jo was one of the first people that rushed to the hospital. She knew that Kate was in custody, but she didn't know the ins and outs of what had happened. Running to the reception desk, Jo asked the lady behind the desk about El and Ruby. The receptionist advised that El was in surgery, but Ruby was nearby.

Though Jo had intentions with Kate that were questionable, where her children were concerned, they came first.

When Jo reached Ruby, she was already packing her things after being cleared by the hospital. She had walked away with scrapes and bruises. El was so much worse off. The worst part is, no one knew what condition she was in. Jo hadn't been told in detail what had happened, she just knew that there had been a big crash. When she looked at Ruby, it was clear that she wanted answers, 'Ruby…Jesus.' She breathed a sigh, 'What the hell happened?!'

Ruby was still a bit shocked after what had happened. She remembered the argument before the crash, and she remembered shouting, alerting Kate to the fact that they were about to crash, other than that, she woke up and found herself here.

'Mum…I don't…I don't want to talk about it. I want to go home to Carla. Right now, I can't do this-'

Jo needed to know, the urgency was clear in her voice, 'They said that Kate is in custody for endangerment and driving without due care and attention. Tell me what happened please Ruby!'

'Kate and El were arguing. It started with me saying that I wanted to see Carla, El thought I was leaving and betraying her, when I just needed a break from everything.' Ruby was speaking so fast, she just wanted to get out of here, 'Before that Max Tyler showed his face. That's what started it again, I think, I, I don't know! El took off her seatbelt and she started having a go at Kate. She mentioned Isabella and Kate finally snapped!' Tears sprung to her eyes now.

Hearing that El had taken her seatbelt off was already having Jo jumping to all sorts of conclusions. Her voice shook now, terrified of the answer to her next question, 'You said she took off her seatbelt, and Kate was going at 70 down the motorway…' Panic set in, 'She didn't…'

Ruby nodded, devastated. She saw El on the bonnet before paramedics had even gotten there. She could hear the wheezing of her breathing and the blood in the back of her throat. It wasn't something she would forget. If anything, Ruby didn't want to remember. Tears streamed down her face as she recalled what she saw when she woke up, 'Going 70 down the motorway, hitting a truck and not wearing a seatbelt, she went straight through the windscreen. I heard her struggling to breathe mum.' Now she crumbled, 'I thought she was going to die.'

Jo rushed forward and hugged her. Jo would think about her feelings later, but Ruby came first at this moment in time, 'It's going to be okay Ruby. It's okay, I'm here now.'

Ruby clung on to Jo for dear life. She was praying that El would make it through this. They'd argued, but Ruby didn't love her any less. This day was going to be a long one.

In the station, Kate was sitting opposite Carmichael. They'd been looking at each other for a while. Kate refused to talk. She just wanted to know how El was and Carmichael had nothing else to give her. Eventually, Carmichael conceded, 'Kate, you need to talk at some point.'

'I want to know how my sister is.'

'You got angry behind the wheel. You spent all that time in New York with Olivia working on your anger, and when it comes to Isabella, someone we all know you care deeply for, someone who has long since been dead for 200 years, you get more angry over her than anyone. El is still in surgery and I have nothing more to offer you in respect to that.' She crossed her arms and narrowed her gaze, 'Before I have had sympathy, but I can't afford that this time around.'

Kate glared at her now, 'So you only afford sympathy when it benefits you?'

Carmichael gave her a steel gaze, 'Your sister is going to be on life support for some time because you couldn't control your anger over someone you loved two centuries ago. The cold reality Kate is that El could die because you couldn't control yourself. I don't have sympathy for you in this situation. I can't. The only people I am sparing sympathy for are Ruby, Olivia and El. Speaking of Olivia, she hasn't been taken to any hospital and we can't find her. You said that Max Tyler came back to torment you…I have a terrible gut feeling that he might have been following you. The accident was the perfect opportunity for him to try and get what he wanted. He then realized that El was too badly injured for him to take advantage, so he took Olivia instead.'

'Is that theory or fact?' Kate asked her. Her blood had run cold now, 'Because if he has taken her, I'll hunt the fucker down-'

Carmichael was at a point now where she didn't understand where Kate's feelings truly sat. She couldn't help but ask what she was thinking, 'Is this what it's like being the Doctor?'

Kate frowned, 'What are you talking about?'

'I just told you that El could be on life support or even die from her injuries, but when I mentioned Olivia, it was like I hadn't said anything about El at all. Do you really not know how to take responsibility for your actions?'

'Why have you turned on me?'

'I'm doing my job.' Carmichael sneered, 'Are you still angry at El?'

'Is this an interrogation?' Kate was angry even more so now, 'I care for El, but right now I can't do anything about that. As for Olivia if you'd stop asking me these stupid questions, I could be out there finding her! I care for every member of my family, but I can't help El! I can help Olivia.'

'I could release you on bail, but I don't trust you to not go and destroy things, as such is your nature.'

Kate was crossing her arms now, 'But you don't have anything on me Carmichael-'

Now Patricia was getting incredibly peeved off. She stood up and paced for a moment. When she stopped, she looked down at her, 'I used to think that you were respectable, kind and honest…But now I see you. You're as selfish and as vindictive as the Doctor. Your sister is fighting for her life in hospital and you don't seem like you care! You're not acting like someone who is remorseful for putting your family in danger! What the hell happened to you?!'

'Maybe I just got sick and tired of everyone jumping down my throat blaming me for every fucking thing that happens! I try to put things right, but I can never seem to do it!'

'So you're saying it was intentional? Taking your eyes off of the road? You wanted that accident to happen?'

Kate was so confused, 'No! Of course I didn't!'

Carmichael sighed. She didn't know what else to do with her, 'Prison doesn't do anything. You're never going to learn from your actions, are you? What does it take for you to be human?'

'I'm not human. Maybe that's where I fucked up.' Kate sneered, 'Maybe I've just become too arrogant, or maybe I've gotten to the point where I've had enough.'

'I think you've been pushed too far. I think you should get away for some time…I don't know…I'm at a loss with what I should do with you.' Carmichael met her gaze dead on, 'Find Olivia and then get out of England. Go to Scotland, go anywhere for a year or two.'

'That's not happening.' Kate bit back, 'I'm going to be there for my family regardless. You can't tell me otherwise.'

A silence filled the room. Carmichael really didn't know what else to do anymore. No punishment would be enough and she knew that, 'I'll give you a week. You either find Olivia, or you find us the leads to find her. You are a danger to yourself and everyone else around you. I think you've lost your way, and you need to find your way back again. The phrase, "cruel to be kind" springs to mind. I'll consider putting you in custody. I should, and I should do my job, but if Max has Olivia, you are the best person to find her. You need to do that.'

Kate accepted defeat on this one. Even she was lost. Finding out what she had done to El was already taking its toll on her

….

It was dark. That's all Olivia knew. It was dark and she was in pain. When she opened her eyes, she realized she was somewhere that she didn't recognize. She was laying on a bed, her hands restrained above her. Trying to scream and shout for help was pointless when she realized that her mouth had been taped shut. If there was one thing that Olivia had learned, she couldn't freak out yet, she had to try and think rationally. Immediately, she knew that there was hardly anyone she knew in the UK and those that she did know were her friends and colleagues. Deducting wasn't too hard, she knew it was Max that had taken her.

When she looked to her left, she saw him standing there, all smug. His arms were crossed across his front and there was such arrogance in his voice, 'My original idea was to take El, but she had flown through the window and could die anyway…' He walked over to her now. He walked to the opposite side of the bed where he would be closer to her. Crouching down, he laughed to himself, 'I thought this was going to be incredibly difficult, but Kate made it so easy. Now she has to find you.' He looked up and down Olivia's body, unnerving her. It was every bit predatory, 'I'll get El in time, but for now I have you.' A smile graced his lips, 'And I'm going to enjoy every minute.'

Olivia was terrified, she couldn't move, she didn't know where she was and she didn't know where Kate was.

Max tore the duct tape from her face, scrunched it into a ball and threw it somewhere out of sight, 'You have questions, that's fine. You can have questions. It might not be the answer you like. For example-'

'I have questions.' Olivia jumped in, 'Right before the crash, El mentioned and said that Kate had dropped the atom bomb. I know that's false, because she is far too young to have been involved!'

Max nodded, 'She's an alien.'

'That…' Olivia frowned, 'She has mentioned that many times too and now I'm starting to think that it was never a joke.'

Max stood up now and he paced, 'That's because it's not a joke! They, El, Ruby, Kate, the Doctor, the lot of them. They are all aliens! No one believes me, but you, you can!'

Olivia frowned, 'But then I would be buying into your delusions as well.' She laughed, 'I'm not that stupid. Maybe they say this to keep your delusions alive and well. Meanwhile, you're full of grand ideas of power and power over a woman's body.'

'El's body.' Tyler corrected her, 'And I am. When the thing I am interested in was never human. Come on Olivia! They have two hearts! No one else in the world has two hearts!'

'It was an abnormality that has been passed down through the family! Aliens don't exist Max, they only exist in your head!'

'YOU SAID THAT YOU WERE STARTING TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WERE ALIENS!'

'I've changed my mind. You're deluded and to them, they know it works as a joke against you! Come on Max, you can't be serious!'

Max glared at her. He then marched over to her, grabbing her face and leaning down, 'I'll show you who's serious! By the end of this, somehow, I will prove to you that your lover is from a different planet!' He looked down at her body, 'For now, you're mine.'

'Get your hands off of me!' Olivia shouted at him. Any pleas would go unheard though and Olivia was about to learn just how monstrous Max was.
