Anne and Dan were packing because they wanted to escape the city, as Eddie had recommended.
Anne was just locking the cat in his carrier and putting it on the table so that Dan could put him in the car. She took over packing the things they would probably need in the next days and only took the bare essentials, but there was still a lot of luggage. Anne was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice when Mr. Belvedere started to hiss and crawled into the farthest corner of his carrier.
She was just turning around and was about to call out to Dan when she noticed that it wasn't him coming up the stairs, but a strange woman in a yellow coat who was now standing in front of her.
»Where's Eddie Brock?«, she asked briskly.
»I'm certainly not going to tell you«, Anne replied with so much fervor that the woman's mood suddenly plummeted.
»Too bad, I had to knock out your fiancé. I didn't want to hurt you too.« Her look and the emphasis on the words revealed that that was a lie.
Anne remained adamant and didn't say a word.
»It's a shame to hurt you. But then hopefully my fiancé will be happy with you for now until your boyfriend comes.«
Anne couldn't even react before she reached out and headbutted her.
Eddie and Venom finally arrived at Anne's home and stormed through the door, which was shockingly open. When they reached the top, they found Dan leaning against the wall, unconscious. Anne was nowhere to be found. Eddie ran up to him, took the glass of water from the table and spilled it in his face. Dan jumped up and looked surprised when he saw who was standing in front of him.
»Eddie…«, he stammered, confused, that was all he could say.
He had to come to his senses first and tried to get up. Eddie held out his hand and helped him up.
»Where's Anne?!« Eddie asked in panic.
»They kidnapped her.« He looked depressed.
»SHIT!« Eddie shouted angrily, causing Dan to back away in shock.
»Do you know where they were going?«
Dan shook his head.
Alex was about to find out. She couldn't stop thinking about the ring the woman had taken. Why did she break into Eddie's house? Was she Kasady's accomplice? Why did she take the ring?
And so she rummaged through the documents again. She noticed the rings again. Next to them was the angel that she had seen in the other picture. Did he want to get married? An angel? What if he meant the woman?
She found the picture with the verse and went through the lines again. A broken angel and a cathedral.
Hadn't she seen a church somewhere earlier? She searched through the whole stack until she found it. When Alex looked at it more closely, it looked much more like a cathedral.
A perfect place to get married.
And wouldn't they need a hiding place too?
Eddie was running in circles while Dan was recovering when suddenly his cell phone rang again. It was Alex.
»Eddie! I've got it. I know where they are now!«
»What, where from?«, he asked, now completely surprised.
»Do you remember when I asked who he meant by the angel?«, she didn't wait for his reaction.
»I went through all the things again and found out that he wanted to marry her, but of course that didn't happen. The woman earlier took the ring with her, so I think that's exactly what they're planning to do now! So I looked for all the cathedrals in the city and found out that Grace Cathedral is currently being renovated and is therefore closed. I assume that they want to be undisturbed and that's why I think that they're there!«
He was speechless. That was good journalistic work that she had done and it sounded completely understandable for two insane people.
»Good, then stay where you are. They've kidnapped Anne!«
He didn't wait for her reaction either and hung up so that they could get on their way as quickly as possible. He had no idea that she was no longer in the apartment, but had only told him when she had arrived at the cathedral to see for herself. She put her cell phone away and switched it to silent. She had seen too many times in films how you were discovered by the bad guy because the doorbell rang at just the most opportune moment. She grinned because of course she was thinking of something so banal in such a dangerous situation, but it also helped her to keep her pulse down a little.
Alex walked along the side of the large cathedral and opened a door so carefully that it didn't even have the slightest chance of creaking and went in. She bent down and crawled further behind the tarpaulin of the scaffolding, which gave her a little privacy. When she finally found a suitable corner, she peeked out and looked at the altar.
There were lit candles on it, rose petals were scattered on the floor. If that wasn't clear evidence, then she didn't know what was.
She quickly realized the significance of her action. Only now did she realize that she was in absolute mortal danger and that it was her own fault. Again, like in every film. The protagonist of the story always got himself into such situations and she, of all people, always thought how stupid and unrealistic that actually was. Now she knew better.
She had been so distracted by her own thoughts that she didn't even notice the noises behind her, but when she saw the shadow that obscured the light of the lamps, it was too late.
»Glad you came after all.«
She let out a scream that echoed throughout the cathedral.
He tied her feet and hands with his own slimy substance, which she found very repulsive, and placed her next to Anne, who he had placed in a small side wing.
»We'll go on a little trip later«, Cletus said, turning to Alex.
»I'm not going anywhere with you! Eddie and Venom will find us and then they'll kick your ass for all the murders!«, she shouted at him angrily, but he just laughed coldly.
»I still have to make a few preparations, so behave yourselves«, he snapped at her and disappeared.
When they were alone, Anne turned to her.
»So you know Eddie and Venom?«, she asked, surprised.
»Yes, they saved me from him. And you're Anne? Eddie has a photo of you on his desk.«
Anne smiled sheepishly and Alex realized that maybe she shouldn't have told her this little piece of information, but it was too late for that realization.
While the two were getting to know each other, in the most absurd setting imaginable, Eddie and Venom were on their way to them. In front of the cathedral, they spotted a woman, as Dan described her, walking towards the door in a black dress.
Venom sneaked up, grabbed her and was about to eat her immediately, when she let out a scream whose high frequencies caused the two to suffer painful agony. Venom screamed and pushed her away with a tentacle. She hit her head on the wall of the building and fell to the ground unconscious. Eddie tried to get up, as Venom had retreated to protect himself. That only helped to a limited extent, as Eddie was still receiving the frequencies and both shared their pain.
He slowly got up and walked to the woman. Then Venom's black mass enveloped him again and he disappeared. Venom licked his teeth with his tongue, full of anticipation of the upcoming meal. He grabbed her again and was about to eat her.
»No, wait!«
»But she kidnapped Anne!« Venom replied angrily.
»Yes, that's exactly why. If Cletus wants to marry her, he would certainly give up Anne for her.«
»Hm, I don't know. She looks delicious.«
He looked at her, not without noticing that she was wearing the ring. He took it from her and let it disappear into his hand.
He stomped to the entrance, kicked the door open demonstratively and looked into the cathedral.
At the other end stood Carnage, who was hiding Detective Mulligan behind the altar as a surprise for Shriek. He had tied him up with a simple rope so that she would have an easy time killing him later. He looked up and saw Venom with Shriek in his claws.
»WHERE IS SHE?« he shouted at his offspring, who smiled mischievously and sent out two tentacles that came back with Anne and Alex.
»Which one of them do you mean?«, he asked devilishly.
»Great«, Eddie grumbled in his head.
»Both«, Venom growled.
Carnage looked at him, laughing, as Shriek woke up in his claws. She then let out another scream, but this time it hit Carnage too.
Venom dropped her and they both screamed in pain until both were almost separated from each other, but Carnage was also writhing in pain. Although he wasn't as sensitive to high frequencies as Venom, it was still enough to let go of Anne and Alex, who he brought back to the small side wing in time. Shriek just wouldn't stop and wanted to attack angrily, but before he knew it, he too was on the ground, writhing in agony and retreating. When she noticed how much this was affecting him, she stopped immediately and rushed to his aid, much to the luck of Eddie and Venom, who were lying on the ground and were able to recover. Carnage roared bloodthirsty at her.
Meanwhile, Detective Mulligan had managed to free himself by taking his key ring out of his pocket and using the sharpest one as a knife to laboriously unravel the rope.
He raised his head briefly to get an idea of the situation. He only saw Carnage and Shriek, as Eddie was still lying on the ground and hidden behind a bench. Mulligan started to run away. Carnage looked up.
»Get him.«
»My cop«, Shriek replied and ran after him.
And so he turned back to Eddie, who slowly began to stand up. He looked up and only now realized how big Carnage was, now that he was seeing him from a much lower position.
»V? This would be the perfect time to come out again," Eddie said slowly, without taking his eyes off the monster in front of him.
»No«, he said firmly.
»What do you mean NO?«, Eddie shouted.
»We won't stand a chance«, Venom replied quietly, fear in his voice.
»That's what you said last time too!«
Nothing happened and Carnage tilted his head questioningly, but he didn't attack.
»Fine.«
Venom formed his body again and Eddie disappeared into it. He stood up and stared at Carnage, ready to fight. That was what Carnage had been waiting for. He grinned happily and attacked.
He rammed Venom to the ground, who pushed him away with his legs. Carnage flew away, but turned in the air and casually hung on the wall, digging his claws deep into it. He pushed off and attacked Venom again. Venom dodged, took one of the benches in the same step and hurled it at him. He used the moment when Carnage was busy to launch an attack from above and attack him with claws and fangs. Carnage screamed in pain and sent Venom to the other side of the cathedral. He had barely landed when Carnage was standing over him again and slowly ramming his claws into his back. Venom roared in pain and grabbed at him with his hands. He pulled him forward, where he crashed into a pillar. It collapsed and fell on Carnage in chunks of concrete. Venom paused and waited. Carnage came out of the pile like a wild man and stabbed Venom with two tentacles shaped like spears. He was able to dodge one, but was hit in the shoulder by the second. Carnage lifted him up, but Venom defended himself by taking a large stone and hitting Carnage's head with it.
Detective Mulligan had meanwhile climbed up onto the scaffolding because he hadn't found an exit and Shriek was still hot on his heels. When he felt safe, he took out his radio. He was barely able to press the button before Shriek stabbed him in the shoulder from behind with an iron bar she had found. Mulligan screamed and dropped it. He picked up his gun and was about to point it at her when Shriek directed one of her screams at him.
The high tones also affected the fighting symbiotes below on the ground, who let go of each other and fell to the ground. The scream caused some pieces to fall from the already fragile ceiling, burying both of them. Venom came out from under them faster and surprised Carnage with a pole that he broke off the scaffolding and rammed it into his chest.
Mulligan was on the ground and Shriek took his gun from him and threw it off the roof. She took an iron chain that hung from the ceiling of the platform above and wrapped it around his left leg. She pulled hard on it so that he was pulled up and hung upside down. Then she fastened the end and crouched down to look him in the face. She pulled out a small knife and made small cuts on him, making him scream in pain. She laughed maliciously.
Venom had rammed the pole so deep into him that it was stuck in the ground. He wanted to use this opportunity to get to Anne and Alex. He was already halfway there when Carnage attacked him from behind again. He turned around, but was thrown up against the wall at that moment, landing on one level of the scaffolding. Carnage came up to him and tackled him to the ground. The scaffolding could barely withstand the load and was shaking dangerously, but none of them noticed. Only Dan, who was now moving in the direction of Anne and Alex. He had waited in a corner until the path was clear. Eddie had impressed this on him so that he could help in an emergency without getting hurt.
He finally reached the two of them.
»Dan, what are you doing here?« Anne whispered in surprise.
»I'll get you out of here.«
He tried to loosen the unusual bonds.
»What is that?«, he asked when he saw the slightly slimy consistency.
»Alien biomass«, Alex answered disgustedly.
Dan tried desperately to pull on it as he remembered what Eddie had told him about the weaknesses of the symbiotes. He already knew about the frequencies because he had already separated Eddie and Venom once, using the sounds of the MRI scan. But then Eddie had told him about the fire.
He pulled a lighter out of his pocket and held it to Anne's shackles. It actually worked, so the material burned, but unfortunately just slower than expected.
When he was almost finished, however, Carnage spotted him and immediately jumped down. He tore the scaffolding with it and almost buried himself and Venom under it. Anne was finally freed, but Carnage crawled out and tried to attack them. Venom jumped on him from behind, but he threw him away in a high arc. Dan also wanted to help Alex, but Carnage came racing up and threw him to the ground. Venom jumped on him again, allowing Anne and Dan to flee in the heat of the moment, as more pieces of ceiling fell to the ground, which would otherwise have killed them both. Alex screamed as a piece rushed straight towards her.
It was not Venom, but Carnage who took her protectively and brought her to the other side of the cathedral. Venom did not intervene when he saw this. He noticed that Eddie was very surprised too.
Carnage carefully put her down and turned back to Venom, baring his teeth. At that moment, Mulligan's screams could be heard, echoing off the walls.
Shriek had great fun massacring him with the small knife, but she lost interest and stabbed him in the middle of the chest. Warm blood flowed out and ran into his face. She turned away and made her way downstairs. He would bleed to death slowly and painfully.
Carnage and Venom ran towards each other and crashed to the ground while Alex had to watch everything. She saw the pain in Venom's eyes when she suddenly noticed a small movement out of the corner of her eye. Her eyes opened wide when she saw what had moved there. Carnage must have split off a small part of himself, because it was moving straight towards her. She screamed and fled from this thing as best she could with her feet and hands tied.
»VENOM!«, she screamed at the top of her lungs
