BRITAI COMMAND LOG
Provided by Chief Archivist Exsedol Folmo
Archivist's Note: Time and distance references converted to Earth standard. Technical terminology preserved where possible.
[10 LIGHT-YEARS AWAY, 2009-02-03]
BRITAI: Confirm detection parameters.
EXSEDOL: Fold signature detected by a recon unit, range 10.03 light-years. Pattern matches Supervision Army capital ship, but... the signature is aberrant.
BRITAI: Specify aberration.
EXSEDOL: Terminal point is deep in-system, violating standard doctrine. We're detecting consistent but chaotic electromagnetic emissions.
BRITAI: Initiate a temporal observation approach. I want to understand why it's broadcasting its presence.
Archivist's Note: A temporal approach involves making a series of short folds, each progressively closer to your destination, and observing the target using the lightspeed delay to build a historical record through to the present day as you get nearer. It is a high-commitment tactic: once you start, you must outrun your own fold signatures, or lose the element of surprise.
[9 LIGHT-YEARS AWAY, 2009-02-04]
EXSEDOL: No additional folds detected. The ship appears to have remained in the terminal system. It has had significant time to establish defenses, but... Electromagnetic analysis confirms technological activity existed prior to the ship's arrival. Signal patterns are... concerning.
BRITAI: Elaborate.
EXSEDOL: Their signals contain patterns serving no discernible tactical purpose, yet aren't encrypted. The information exchange is... widespread. Chaotic. And, they seem to be operating entirely in micronized size.
BRITAI: An entire planet micronized. [Extended pause] Why would they do that?
EXSEDOL: There is an old directive, buried in our most basic command sets: "Worlds of the miclones are to be avoided." We have no record of encountering such a world before now.
BRITAI: Which means either our records are incomplete, or this directive predates our current protocols. Both possibilities are concerning.
[3 LIGHT-YEARS AWAY, 2009-02-06]
BRITAI: Status of the ship?
EXSEDOL: Heavily altered. Almost unrecognizable; it matches no patterns in our database. But energy readings confirm - it's our target.
BRITAI: And the miclones?
EXSEDOL: Exponential technological advancement since the ship's arrival. Their presence spans the planet and is expanding into orbit.
[LUNAR ORBIT, 2009-02-07]
EXSEDOL: The directive complicates our approach. They're using the ship and its technology.
BRITAI: The ship is our primary target. Deploy a recon spread. We will discern whether we can destroy or extract the ship.
[MAIN GUN ACTIVATION]
BRITAI: Damage report?
TACTICAL OFFICER: Recon elements lost. Minimal strategic impact.
BRITAI: The target has revealed hostile posture. Execute containment pattern. Limited forward elements only, maintain strategic reserve.
[POST ENGAGEMENT]
BRITAI: Their fold mechanics violated multiple theoretical constraints. Assessment?
EXSEDOL: The signature suggests both damage and modification. The fold succeeded despite planetary mass interference - our calculations indicate this should have been impossible. Commander... I am experiencing uncertainty.
BRITAI: As am I. Their tactical choices appear counter-strategic.
EXSEDOL: I believe we are operating with dangerously incomplete data. Request permission to expand analysis beyond standard metrics?
BRITAI: Granted. There's a pattern here we're not seeing. Deploy pursuit elements, and maintain containment of the miclone world. If they can innovate with fold mechanics...
EXSEDOL: Commander?
BRITAI: We need to understand what else they might be capable of. We will adapt our tactics to their capabilities.
