A/N: And here, we have the next chapter. This time, it'll be on a more positive note, hence the episode being shorter than originally. So, fans of the Mordecai X C.J. ship, this one's for you.
Close Enough: A Regular Show
Chapter 9: Yes, Dude, Yes
One day, Rigby was playing video games when Mordecai and C.J. walked up with two tickets.
"Dude, I got them. Tickets to a free screening of Love Bot 2.", Mordecai said, walking to Rigby.
"Aw, sweet! The first one was so lame.", Rigby said as he jumped off the couch.
"I know, right?", C.J. agreed.
"I AM A ROBOT, I CANNOT LOVE.", Rigby said, moving his arms like a robot.
"HOLD ME SO I CAN LEARN TO LOVE. HOLD ME.", C.J. added, also moving her arms like a robot before laughing.
"Come on, call Margaret and Eileen, we can all go make fun of it.", Rigby insisted.
"Uh..actually, I only got two tickets.", Mordecai said.
"And he already asked me to go.", C.J. added.
"Aw, what? But we do everything together.", Rigby said.
"Exactly, C.J. and I will never be more than just friends with you guys tagging along. It's time to take this to the next level.", Mordecai said, turning around and smiling.
"All right, man. Do your thing.", Rigby said as he jumped on the couch and grabbed his video game controller.
Moments later, the two were now in front of the Coffee Shop.
"You know, I gotta ask. Who's Margaret?", C.J. asked.
"Oh, Margret is an old friend. She works here at the coffee shop." Mordecai said.
"Really? Sounds like good a time as any to get to know her.", C.J. said.
"Yeah. You'd like her. She's got...", Mordecai began as he looked through a window.
But when he and C.J. looked, they saw Margaret standing in front of an unknown character on his knee and rushed over.
"Mordecai? What's going on?", C.J. asked.
Mordecai burst open the door and ran inside just as C.J. entered and saw what was happening.
"Yes, dude, yes!", Margaret gasped before hugging the gentleman and looking into his eyes, prompting Mordecai very much to give a look of surprise.
"Mordecai? Are you-"
C.J. stopped talking as she gazed down, seeing Margret seemingly being proposed to by what appeared to be either an Oriole man or an orange robin man.
"Oh, no. Oh, no, she didn't.", C.J. said.
Mordecai then took off.
"Mordecai, wait!", C.J. shouted, going after him.
"Huh?", Margaret puzzled, looking in time to see the door closing.
"Something wrong, Margaret?", the orange robin asked, looking at the door.
"Not sure, John, but maybe it was a customer leaving.", Margaret said with a shrug.
Meanwhile, C.J. caught up to Mordecai.
"All right, what's the deal? I can tell you're distressed by this.", C.J. said.
"What? No!", Mordecai fibbed slightly, still panicked.
"Dude, just be real with me.", C.J. egged.
"You're right. It's just... the love of my life is getting married to some other dude. Do you know how that feels?", Mordecai asked.
"Wait. You love her?", C.J. asked.
"Well, I... used to now, but... I'm just not sure I could date anyone right now.", Mordecai said in reply.
"It's cool.", C.J. assured.
"Really?", Mordecai asked in surprise.
"Yeah. We can just try being friends. Maybe I can cheer you up.", C.J. suggested, baffling the blue jay and earning her giggle.
"Come on, let's get out of here.", C.J. said.
Later, the two were now at the arcade.
"You're doing it! You're gonna beat the high score!", Mordecai spoke eagerly as C.J. concentrated.
In the game, "Alligator Dude", C.J. punted the barrel right back at the gator that tossed it, besting him.
"Wow. I've never seen anybody beat this game before.", Mordecai said, impressed.
"Yeah...I'm kinda an old pro at this.", C.J. shrugged.
Then, she entered her nickname into the game as "CJ3" just below two copies of said nickname.
Next, Mordecai and C.J. were playing Air Hockey. At one point, Mordecai managed to hit the puck to C.J.'s side of the table.
"Whooooooa! Tied game, tied game!", Mordecai shouted.
But she quickly hit the puck to Mordecai's side of the table.
"Whoooooooa!", C.J. shouted, waving her arm.
"Cheap shot, cheap shot!", Mordecai shouted, pointing to her.
Then, the two were eating grilled cheese together.
"No, no, I don't care what you say. The original 'Zombie Destiny' movie is way better than the remake.", Mordecai said before C.J. swallowed.
"Quit talking with your mouth full!, Mordecool.", C.J. said.
"Wait, what do you mean? My mouth's open? I have no idea, is it still open?", Mordecai laughed, showing C.J. the inside of his mouth.
"Aw, gross. How old are you?", C.J. asked as she playfully shoved Mordecai while looking away before the two laughed.
From there, the two friends did all sorts of things together, whether it was looking at clouds while laying down and laughing of what they look like, C.J. riding Mordecai on a grocery cart while being chased by one security guard (who, after getting exhausted, felt like taking a break for now), cart racing, roller skating in which Mordecai almost fell, cheering at a concert, looking at art while nodding and then looking at each other having the same thought of view before laughing again, and even playing laser tag where C.J. hid from Mordecai and then jumped out, laser tagging him. Soon, it was night time with the two friends walking by each other.
"Yeah, so I still can't believe you got turned into a giant and then fought that warlock to undo the bad luck that was destroying the park.", Mordecai said, making her laugh.
"Speaking of luck, you guys have like the worst luck or something.", C.J. said.
"Yeah.", Mordecai said before the two saw Margaret and John again.
This prompted Mordecai to take off with C.J. noticing this.
"Seriously? This again?", C.J. asked.
When she caught up, this time, she saw Mordecai panting.
"Okay, dude. What's up with that this time?", C.J. asked.
"I don't know. I just feel... weird about this. I'm just not exactly sure how to break it to her about how we hung out.", Mordecai said.
Hearing this, C.J. got an idea.
"Hey, I know! How about we try again at the Coffee Shop tomorrow? Get a proper introduction.", C.J. said.
"An introduction?", Mordecai puzzled, thinking for a moment.
"Hey, that could actually work. I'll wait by the entrance in the morning.", Mordecai said.
"Sounds like a plan, Morty.", C.J. grinned.
"Later, C.J.", Mordecai said before both walked away.
Play Journey Music: "Two Worlds (Separate Ways)"
The next morning, inside of the house, Mordecai was using a shower to wash up before he finished up, dried up, and got ready for the day before getting out of the shower and doing his hair before opening the door and getting out of the shower, met with a surprised Rigby as he never quite saw Mordecai this excited.
"Oh. Hey, Rigby.", Mordecai said.
"So, what happened?", Rigby asked.
"Well, a lot's happened. I'll explain on that later. But right now, C.J. and I are gonna meet up and get Margaret acquainted with her.
"Wow, really?", Mordecai asked.
"Yep. We're gonna get some closure.", Mordecai said as he left.
"Closure?", Rigby puzzled.
Whatever was going on that led to this resolved, he needed to know what was going on.
"How about I come with you?", Rigby asked.
"Really?", Mordecai asked.
"I wanna see how it goes.", Rigby replied.
Meanwhile, C.J. was getting up for the day in her room as she then got off her bed, took a shower around the shower curtains, slipped into more comfortable clothes, blow-dryed her hair, brushed her teeth, and then headed out, eventually attracting the attention of a few women, which turned out to be some of her friends, en route to the Coffee Shop where Mordecai was waiting on the bench.
Someday love will find you
Break those chains that bind you
One night will remind you
How we touched and went our separate ways
"Alright, so you ready?", Rigby asked.
"I guess. Right now, I'm just waiting on C.J.", Mordecai replied.
"Don't worry, man. I'll be there ready to call an ambulance if you pass out or start freaking out or somethin'.", Rigby assured.
"Thanks, man.", Mordecai thanked.
If he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
You know I still love you
Though we touched and went our separate ways
As for C.J. and her friends, they were passing by a store.
"Yeah, and then he asked me to the movies. It was kind of awkward, but cute. You know.", C.J. said before she and her friends laughed.
"Oh, my gosh! There he is!", C.J. shouted as she pointed to Mordecai and Rigby, who were waiting on the bench.
"That's him!", C.J. said.
I still love you, girl
I really love you, girl
And if he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
"Well, guess it's time to give him the closure he needs.", C.J.'s first friend said.
"The sooner, the better.", C.J.'s second friend added.
"No retreat, girl!", C.J.'s third friend added.
"Yeah. I got this.", C.J. agreed before heading over to Mordecai and Rigby.
"Oh, hey, C.J.! I was just waiting for you.", Mordecai said as she arrived.
"You ready to do this?", C.J. asked.
Mordecai took a deep breath before giving a cool look.
No!
"Yes, dude, yes.", Mordecai said coolly.
"Then, let's do it.", C.J. responded.
Then, both held hands before they, and Rigby, entered the Coffee Shop.
No!
End Journey Music: "Worlds Apart (Separate Ways)
"Margaret!", Mordecai called.
"Hey, guys, good timing.", Margaret added.
"You must be Margaret. Nice to meet you.", C.J. greeted.
Frankly, Margaret was a bit surprised.
"Mordecai, you know this girl?", Margaret asked.
"Oh, yeah. I figured now's as good a time as any for you both to get to know each other.", Mordecai explained.
"I'm C.J.", C.J. greeted.
"Oh. Hey, C.J. Speaking of getting to know each other, there's someone I want you guys to meet. Guys, this is my cousin, John.", Margaret said as she led Mordecai, Rigby, and C.J. over to John.
"Cousin?", the trio asked.
"Yeah, he finally got a new leg today. Check it out.", Margaret explained as John got up, revealing his new wooden leg.
"Not bad, right? No more kneeing on one knee for me anymore.", John greeted.
"Cool.", Rigby grinned.
"Isn't it great?", Margaret asked.
"Margaret screamed so loud when I told her. She was all like 'Yes, dude, yes!'", John responded, making Margaret blush.
"Aw, geez. Did I really say that?", Margaret asked.
"Ohhh!", Mordecai and C.J. said at the same time.
"So, that's what that was about.", C.J. realized.
Mordecai then shook John's hand in appreciation.
"That's great, man, that's really great.", Mordecai grinned.
"Ohh. That reminds me. Do you guys want to see 'Love Bot 2' with us? I got you guys a pair of tickets to wish you the best of luck. Of course, we thought you two were tying the knot at the time, hence this gift, but still.", C.J. explained.
"Tonight? Yeah, sure, we'd love to.", Margaret replied.
"Great. So, it's a date, then.", Mordecai grinned.
"More like an almost-double date. Sorry, you couldn't come with us to the movies, though, Rigby.", C.J. added.
"Hey, I'm just glad that things worked out, whatever happened. And besides, I'm over it.", Rigby said as he left.
"Huh. Okay.", C.J. said.
Later that night, Mordecai, C.J., Margaret, and John were watching "Love Bot 2" as it played in the theater.
"Love is highly illogical. Love me. Love me.", the robot spoke, making the two groups laugh in amusement.
"Classic.", Mordecai and C.J. said in unison.
A/N: See? On a positive note for MordeCJ Shippers. No misunderstandings, no wish-washy Mordecai (I hope), and definitely no heartbreak in this one. But if you're still looking for some kind of action, the next chapter would help deliver that.
