A/N: Now to delve into the Forest Temple. Enjoy!
The Eds and Navi ran into the room Link ventured into, the remains of a monster littering the ground.
"What is this?" Eddy asked.
"I don't know. Whatever it was is too broken to recognize." Navi answered as they walked towards the door, iron bars keeping them from entering.
"Oh great. It's locked." Eddy groaned.
"Shh! Do you hear that?" Edd asked before placing an ear on the door. "I hear Link...I think he's fighting something!"
"Oh no! What if Link is being overrun by monsters and is being torn to shreds as we speak?!" Ed asked in panic.
"...Normally I'd say you're reading too many comics, but in this case?" Eddy began before the three of them started pounding on the door. "LINK! YOU OKAY IN THERE?!" he shouted before the door suddenly flew open, letting the three of them fall face first onto the ground.
"Dead end. Got a key. Let's go." Link stated as he walked out of the room, an opened chest and skeletal remains on the ground.
"Huh? Hey, wait up!" Eddy yelled as the three of them got up and followed, with Navi flying alongside them. They caught up with Link as he used the key he collected on the locked door before they entered. The hallway was small and had one Skulltula hanging from the ceiling. Link merely tossed a Deku Nut and stunned it before they all ran under it and into the next room.
"Watch out!" Navi shouted as a skull with wings flew at them, a blue flame covering it's body. Link held his shield up to block it, making it's flame go out and causing it to hop around before he sliced it with his sword.
"Was that a flying skull?" Eddy asked.
"That was a Blue Bubble. It hurts you by flying into you while it's on fire." Navi explained.
"Intriguing. I wonder if it was part of another body before-" Edd began before he was being pushed by Eddy.
"Save it, Sockhead! Link went on ahead again!" Eddy snapped as they began to follow Link, who was already climbing up some ladders.
"Link!" Navi yelled as she flew up to him. "Will you please slow down?"
"No time. We have to save Saria and Kokiri Woods." Link stated as he looked around before spotting the arrows on the ground and following them to a large, square shaped indent in the floor. "What's this for?"
"Why don't you slow down and let us examine the area to help you uncover it's purpose?" Edd asked as he, Ed and Eddy finally caught up to him.
"What took you guys so long?" Link asked.
"Hey, don't get angry at us! You keep running off and leaving us behind!" Eddy snapped while Ed followed the arrows.
"Then maybe you should keep up!" Link snapped, making Eddy growl before they heard the sound of something heavy scraping against the ground.
"Square peg in the square hole!" Ed said as he pushed a giant blue block into the square indent.
"Uh...bravo, Ed." Edd said after taking a moment to examine the immediate area. "Looks like we can venture further upwards by using this giant block of stone-"
"Up you go!" Ed said with a grin as he grabbed Edd and tossed him upwards onto the block, making the smart Ed scream in terror before he safely landed on the block.
"Please refrain from doing that, Ed!" Edd said with a frown as the others joined him before they all climbed higher. "Hmm. Looks like there are more of these arrows on the floor." he mused as they looked around before finding a giant red stone block.
"And here's another spot in the floor." Eddy said as he stood before the indent on the ground. "So we need to push that red block over here?"
"Correct." Edd stated as he joined Eddy. "By doing so, we'll be able to ascend even higher-"
CRASH!
"Got it!" Ed yelled after pushing the block in place.
"...Did he just do that?" Navi asked.
"Yes...Yes he did." Link answered with wide eyes.
"Eddy? Double D? Where are you guys?" Ed asked while looking around.
"Ed...Pull the block back out!" came Eddy's muffled yell. Ed looked at the block before lifting it up and sliding it back, revealing a squished Eddy and Double D on the other side before they peeled off and fell to the ground.
"There you are!" Ed said with a grin while Edd struggled to get his pain riddled body up.
"Idiot!" Eddy growled as he got to his feet.
"I still don't know how you guys can get squished like that and still not be dead." Link whispered before shaking his head and pushed the block back in, thankfully after Eddy and Edd were out of the way, before climbing up. "Anyway, let's keep going!"
"For crying out loud! Will you hit the brakes already?!" Eddy yelled as the Eds struggled to keep up. They got up onto the ledge just in time to see Link pierce a hopping Blue Bubble, killing it and leaving it on the ground before walking through a door.
"That's strange. The eye above is open, but the door is unbarred." Edd stated as they approached the door before backing away when Link walked out, a perplexed expression on his face.
"What's with you?" Eddy asked while Navi flew up under Link's hat.
"Look." was all he said as he pointed at the door with his thumb. The four of them walked in before stopping, the Eds gaping at the sight of a long, a twisted, corridor.
"It's...twisted!?" Navi exclaimed in shock.
"Cool!" Ed said before running down the hall, his body turning with it to keep his feet on the ground. He stopped just before reaching the doorway on the other side before turning back towards the others, his body staying upright and not falling down. "Hey guys! How'd you get on the wall?"
"HOW ON EARTH IS THAT POSSIBLE?!" Edd yelled while throwing his hands out towards the scene. "EVEN IF THE CORRIDOR IS TWISTED, GRAVITY SHOULD'VE PULLED ED DOWN TO-"
"Double D! We are in a different world! Fairies and magic exist! Who cares if gravity is broken?!" Eddy snapped before walking down the corridor, his body following the curving path as well before looking back. "...Man, that's weird." he said, his view of Link and Edd looking like they were standing on the wall. Link quickly walked down the corridor while Edd followed at a slower pace, completely baffled as the laws of physics were being spat on until he joined the others.
"I shall, forever and always, be astounded by this world." Edd muttered as Ed walked into the room.
"Hey guys! I see a treasure chest! It's hanging on the-" was all Ed got out before a large hand dropped onto him.
"ED!" the others yelled before running into the room just in time to see the hand disappear into the ceiling with a screaming Ed.
"What was that thing?!" Eddy yelled in shock.
"That was a Wallmaster! It's a monster that hangs from the ceiling! Keep moving and watch for it's shadow to appear under your feet!" she explained.
"LINK! ABOVE YOU!" Edd shrieked.
Fearing the worst, Link swiftly thrust his sword above him, impaling the Wallmaster that had descended to grab him. It gave off a cry of pain before going limp, leaving Link to fling it off his sword.
"Thanks." Link said, his breathing a little heavy from the ambush.
"How'd you know it was about to attack Link, Double D?" Eddy asked.
"I saw a large shadow forming under his feet. I hypothesized that it was from the Wallmaster that took Ed." Edd answered.
"Speaking of Ed, where'd he go?" Eddy asked as they all looked at the pitch black ceiling.
"I don't know." Navi answered. "He could be anywhere."
"Well then we have to find him!" Eddy stated before jumping over to the next door, only to find it locked. "Aw man! It's locked!"
"It appears we'll have to retrace our steps and find another path." Edd stated.
"Great." Eddy grumbled before eyeing the treasure chest Ed was talking about. "Check it out! I bet it's got something amazing inside!"
"We'll have to come back for it later. None of us can reach it right now." Navi pointed out, making Eddy frown before following the others back towards the entrance. A bit of walking and killing any monsters that reappeared later, the group was now back in the elevator room.
"Alright, where to now?" Eddy asked.
"The path we came from has a locked door, so that direction will have to wait until we've acquired a small key for the lock." Edd stated. "And there was a dead end on the path opposite of the entrance. One door is on a ledge we cannot access. One door is sealed shut with iron bars due to that eye. And, if there is a path, there's one behind that giant stone block." Edd listed off while pointing at each path.
"And that stone block has the same design that's on the Door of Time." Navi stated.
"Play the Song of Time, Link!" Ed said with a grin.
"Alright." Link agreed as he brought his ocarina to his lips. He was through the first few notes before suddenly blowing a sour note. "ED?!"
"ED!" the two Eds and Navi yelled in joy at the sight of Ed standing behind them all.
"You're okay!" Navi said as she flew around him.
"Where'd you go, Ed?" Eddy asked.
"That big hand dropped me at the entrance." Ed answered. "I came here after beating the two wolves and big spider."
"Well, as terrifying as seeing a friend dragged away by a monster was, I'm simply glad that you're okay, Ed." Edd said with a smile.
"Same here, Lumpy." Eddy nodded.
"It's good to see you again, Ed." Link said before turning back to the block. "Now, let's continue." he said before playing the Song of Time, causing the stone to vanish in a pillar of light and revealing a door behind it.
"Yes, let us proceed." Edd agreed before they walked through the door, only to jump back when a Giant Deku Baba lunged at them. They stayed out of it's reach as it lunged again before Link drove his blade through it's head, killing it instantly. After doing so, the group made their way into the large room.
"No ceiling, huh? Guess we don't have to worry about that Wallmaster thing getting us." Eddy pointed out as they looked around the spacious room. "So, which way now?"
"Let's try up there." Ed suggested while pointing up at a hole near the top of a wall, the area under covered in thick vines and Skullwalltulas.
"We'll have to take care of those monsters first." Edd stated.
"I got this." Eddy said with a grin before pointing his finger at the lowest one, an apple sized fireball forming at the tip. "Bang!" he said as a ball of flame shot towards the spider, hitting it and setting it aflame. Eddy repeated this with the other two until all three had fallen off the wall, their bodies writhing in pain before dying from the flames. Eddy grinned before blowing at his finger like it was a gun.
"Impressive, Eddy." Edd said as the three approached the wall.
"Eh, it was nothing." Eddy boasted as Link started to climb, followed by the Eds.
"I'm scared, Eddy!" Ed whined as he climbed up the vines at a slow pace, which prevent Eddy and Edd from climbing any higher.
"Be brave, Ed. It's not very high." Edd said in encouragement. Sadly, Ed's shivering frame said that his smart friend's words weren't having much effect. "It appears our friend's fear of heights has struck again. Perhaps we should let Ed stay behind and-"
"Move it, Lumpy!" Eddy yelled before blasting Ed's rump with a small flame.
"YEOWCH!" Ed yelled before he shot up the vines, pushing Link over as he ran into the next room.
"What happened?" Link asked, confused as to what ran him over before shaking his head. "Well, at least he's moving." he muttered as Edd and Eddy joined him before the three walked in the room to see Ed scooting his butt across the ground, the flame out and the remains of a Blue Bubble scattered about.
"Score!" Eddy said with glee as a large treasure chest appeared. He quickly ran over and opened it before his good mood deflated. "Just a map."
"Now we'll have a proper understanding of the Temple's layout." Edd stated as they all looked it over before Edd took it. "Now if we could find the compass, we'd be able to properly explore the area."
"The quicker we find the boss, the quicker we can release my home from this evil." Link stated as he walked into the next room, leaving the Eds behind.
"What is wrong with Link?" Ed asked.
"Yeah. He's acting like the place will disappear if he's not fast enough." Eddy added as they followed after Link into the next room. They looked to see Link step on a switch on the other ledge before the sound of water draining away was heard.
"This way!" Link said before jumping down, making the Eds yelp at the distance between the ledge and the ground.
"LINK!" Edd yelled as they watched Link fall before rolling when he hit the ground. He didn't even bother with the Deku Baba, simply letting it's head bounce off his shield, as he ran towards what looked like a well with no water before jumping down.
"WAIT FOR US, LINK!" Ed yelled before grabbing Edd and Eddy and jumping down, making his friends scream before they hit the ground.
"Next time, Ed...we'll take the long way." Edd said as they got up and slowly followed after Link.
"It's the first temple and I want to call it a day." Eddy grumbled as they took out the Deku Baba and climbed the ladder town into the tunnel, where Navi was waiting for them.
"Navi? What's wrong?" Edd asked.
"It's Link. He's not listening to me." Navi answered in a worried tone. "I keep telling him to slow down and stop rushing everywhere, but he keeps telling me he can't. That he needs to save Saria and all of Kokiri Forest."
"Isn't that why we came here?" Ed asked as they walked down the long tunnel.
"Yes, but Link's not thinking straight. His mind's muddled with fear for his home and anger towards Ganondorf. I'm angry too, but I know that you can't save anyone if you get yourself killed by being reckless!"
"Well what do you want us to do?" Eddy asked as they walked past the small empty chest and began to climb up the vines.
"I don't know, but we need to get Link to slow down and think before he loses his head." Navi answered as they got up to the surface just in time to see Link disappear behind another door.
"First, we need to catch him." Edd pointed out before they all ran after Link. They caught him heading through a door that, according to Edd reading the map, would lead them back through the room with the twisted corridor.
"I'll try to stop him." Navi said as they entered the room, allowing her to fly up and head towards the door she knew Link needed to pass through to get to the twisted corridor. She didn't have to wait long for Link to appear. He made quick work of the Blue Bubbles before he ran towards the door. "Link! Hold on!"
"No time, Navi." Link said with a shake of his head as he reached for the doorknob.
"I SAID STOP!" Navi shouted as she smacked Link's hand, making the hero wince and pull his hand back.
"Ow! What was that for?!" Link asked while shaking his hand.
"For being a reckless idiot!" Navi snapped. "Ever since those Poe sisters mentioned Saria, you've practically been running non-stop all over the Temple!"
"That's because I need to find them and get those flames back! Otherwise, we'll never rid the Forest Temple of-"
"I know all that!" Navi interrupted. "I know what's at stake! The Kokiri Forest is my home too, remember?! But am I leaving everyone behind and rushing off like a cucco with it's head cut off? NO!"
"But the longer we take, the longer the others will suffer." Link argued.
"They've survived for the last seven years, Link. They can wait another few hours." Edd countered as he and his friends caught up to the two. "But if you get killed, then the forest will remain full of monsters for eternity. And not only that, but all the other temples and towns will live in fear of Ganondorf's evil."
"Yeah, so slow down already. I'm tired of having to run all over the place." Eddy said with a frown.
"And Ed does not want to lose his friend." said Ed with a sad look under his visor.
Link was quiet as he looked at the three of them before turning to Navi, the light doing nothing to block the worried look on her face. The more he looked at them, the more he realized how foolish he had been. He finally looked down and sighed.
"...I'm sorry."
A/N: And we're stopping there. Sorry it took me so long to update. Also, I'm no longer doing the whole 'do a different select few a month' thing anymore. Even though I say I'm working on one or two specific ones, I keep getting impatient jackasses who keep badgering me to work on different stories and leave reviews that simply say they want more even though I just gave them something five minutes ago. It's irritating.
Anyway, that's enough of my rant. Happy Halloween!
