Several weeks had passed since Izuku and Mina had brought Miyu home, and their lives had settled into a new rhythm. Each day brought something new as their daughter grew and developed, her tiny milestones filling their hearts with joy.
At six weeks old, Miyu was becoming more alert. Her eyes followed movement with fascination, and her coos and gurgles were quickly becoming a regular part of their days. She was particularly fascinated with Izuku's freckles and would reach for his face whenever he held her close, her little fingers brushing against his cheeks with clumsy curiosity.
"She's got a good grip," Izuku said one morning as Miyu wrapped her tiny hand around his pinky finger. He sat on the couch with her nestled against his chest, her head bobbing slightly as she practiced holding it up.
Mina laughed softly from the kitchen, where she was preparing a quick breakfast. "She's probably practicing for when she yanks your hair," she teased, flashing him a grin.
Izuku chuckled, gently smoothing Miyu's soft green hair. "She can pull my hair all she wants. She's perfect."
Miyu let out a happy coo in response, her bright eyes darting between her parents as if she understood what they were saying. Her little legs kicked excitedly, and Izuku couldn't help but smile wider.
Later that evening, after Miyu's bath—a new nightly routine that she alternated between loving and loudly protesting—Mina cradled her daughter in the rocking chair. The nursery glowed softly in the dim light, the walls decorated with playful hero-themed decals and the pastel green paint that Mina and Izuku had picked out together.
Miyu's tiny fists clenched and unclenched as Mina hummed a gentle lullaby, her voice soft and soothing. Izuku stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame as he watched them. His heart swelled at the sight of Mina gently stroking Miyu's cheek, her love for their daughter so evident in every small gesture.
"She's starting to recognize us more," Mina said quietly, glancing up at him. "I can tell by the way she looks at us now. Like she knows we're her mom and dad."
Izuku nodded, stepping into the room and sitting on the edge of the crib. "Yeah. She's amazing. Every little thing she does feels like a miracle."
Mina smiled, but her expression shifted slightly as she leaned back in the chair. "Izuku, I've been thinking," she began, her tone hesitant. "I… I want to go back to work soon."
Izuku blinked, caught off guard. "Work? You mean hero work?"
Mina nodded, looking down at Miyu, who had been starting to drift off to sleep. "Yeah. I've been feeling this pull, you know? Like… I love being here with her, but there's this other part of me that misses being out there. Protecting people. Helping the city."
She paused, brushing a strand of hair from Miyu's forehead. "But I feel guilty, too. I don't want her to feel like she's not my priority."
Izuku opened his mouth to respond, but before he could, Miyu let out a loud, sudden wail. Her tiny face scrunched up in distress, her cries filling the room.
Mina's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh no, sweetie, what's wrong?" she murmured, gently bouncing her daughter in her arms. "Shhh, it's okay."
Miyu's cries only grew louder, her little hands gripping Mina's shirt tightly. Mina exchanged a look with Izuku, who had stood up and was now beside her, ready to help.
"She never cries like this," Mina said softly, her voice filled with concern. Then, as if the realization struck her, she looked down at Miyu and smiled sadly. "You heard me, didn't you, cutie? You don't want Mommy to go back to work."
Izuku chuckled softly, leaning down to kiss Miyu's head. "She's a smart one. Already making her feelings known."
Mina kissed her daughter's tear-streaked cheek, her lips lingering for a moment as she whispered, "Don't worry, sweet girl. Mommy will always have time for you. No matter what. You're my world, Miyu."
The soothing tone and gentle touch seemed to calm Miyu, her cries tapering off into soft hiccups. Mina continued to rock her, humming softly until Miyu settled back into a sleepy daze.
Izuku watched the scene unfold, his chest tightening with emotion. "Mina," he said quietly, sitting down beside her. "You're an incredible mom. I know how much being a hero means to you, and I know you'll find a way to balance both. But you're already her hero, just by being here."
Mina looked up at him, her eyes shining with unshed tears. "Thanks, Izuku. That means everything to me."
He reached out, taking her free hand in his and squeezing gently. "We'll figure this out together. One step at a time."
Mina nodded, her heart full as she looked down at Miyu, who was now fast asleep in her arms. "Yeah. Together."
The sun filtered through the curtains as the family sat together on the living room floor. Miyu lay on her tummy on a soft blanket, her head lifting slightly as she worked on her newfound skill of tummy time. She babbled happily, her little arms and legs flailing with determination.
"Look at her go," Izuku said with a grin, snapping a quick photo on his phone. "She's going to be crawling in no time."
Mina laughed, leaning over to gently rub Miyu's back. "She's already growing up too fast. Pretty soon, she'll be running around the house, causing chaos."
Izuku chuckled, the thought filling him with equal parts excitement and nostalgia for how quickly these moments were passing. "And when that happens, we'll be right there with her."
Mina smiled, reaching over to take Izuku's hand. "Yeah. Always."
As Miyu let out another happy squeal, her parents laughed together, savoring the precious moments that made every challenge and decision worthwhile.
The morning of the Hero Celebration was bright and lively, with banners and decorations strung across the streets of Musutafu. Crowds filled the city square, bustling with excitement as heroes greeted fans and showcased their abilities in a public display of unity and strength. It was a rare day of celebration, one that symbolized hope and safety for the community.
Izuku and Mina arrived at the event with Miyu securely strapped into a baby carrier on Izuku's chest. The little girl's bright green eyes darted around curiously, her tiny hands occasionally waving in the air as she babbled at the colorful sights.
"She's loving this," Mina said with a grin, walking beside Izuku and holding his hand. Her eyes sparkled with pride as she watched Miyu soak in the atmosphere. "First public outing, and she's already stealing the show."
Izuku chuckled, adjusting the carrier slightly. "She's definitely the star of the day," he said. "Even All Might doesn't get this kind of attention."
A few fellow heroes stopped to greet them, marveling at Miyu's adorable presence. Ochako leaned down to wave at her, cooing softly. "She's so cute! Look at those cheeks!"
"Careful, she might already have a quirk that mesmerizes people," joked Kirishima, grinning as Miyu reached out toward his red hair.
The dim light of the alleyway cast jagged shadows over the villains, amplifying their menacing presence as they prepared for their assault. Umbra's sleek black bodysuit seemed to absorb the faint glow of the malfunctioning streetlamp, rendering her figure almost one with the darkness. Purple lines etched along the edges of her suit pulsed faintly, like veins coursing with energy. A high, flared collar framed her pale, angular face, its stark whiteness a sharp contrast against the black void of her outfit. From her shoulders flowed a tattered cape of shadowy tendrils that writhed and twisted unnaturally, as if alive. Her glowing white eyes pierced through the gloom, giving her the appearance of a spectral predator waiting to pounce.
Tremor loomed nearby, his massive frame dominating the narrow alley. His outfit was a blend of rugged practicality and sheer intimidation, with reinforced armor plates covering his chest, shoulders, and legs. The armor was battered and dented, bearing the scars of countless brawls. His gauntlets were enormous, plated with heavy, dark steel that crackled faintly with energy, each movement emitting a low, mechanical hum. A jagged, blood-red emblem stretched across his chest plate, a symbol of destruction. His unshaven face and disheveled hair added to his brutish appearance, and his heavy boots clanged ominously as he shifted his weight.
Cipher, crouched atop a stack of crates, had an entirely different aesthetic. Their high-tech suit shimmered faintly, the smooth, segmented panels giving them a sleek, almost insectoid appearance. The helmet obscured their face entirely, the black visor reflecting the flickering light like an unblinking eye. Neon-blue lines ran across the suit's surface, converging on the glowing device in their hands, which emitted soft beeps and a sinister green light. Small metallic tools were clipped to their utility belt, and their slim, wiry frame made them appear unnervingly precise, as though every movement was calculated down to the millimeter.
Umbra's glowing eyes narrowed as she stepped to the edge of the alley, her tendrils twitching in anticipation. "All those heroes gathered like sheep," she said, her voice smooth and dripping with malice. "Distracted by their little celebrations. Their pathetic families. They won't even see it coming."
Tremor let out a deep, guttural laugh, slamming his fist into the wall beside him. The impact sent a small tremor rippling through the ground, cracking the concrete beneath his boots. "Let's give them a show," he growled, his voice like grinding stone. "No one's walking away from this. Especially not those so-called 'top heroes.'"
Cipher chuckled darkly from their perch, their fingers dancing over the glowing device in their hands. "You two never think past the smashing and slicing," they said, their tone smug and laced with sarcasm. "Without me, you're just a couple of overpowered brutes. My tech's what's going to make this beautiful. Take out their comms, shut down their precious systems. Then it's just us, them, and a lot of screaming civilians."
Tremor's gauntlets crackled as he turned to Cipher, his expression darkening. "Keep running that mouth, Cipher, and you'll be the first thing I crush."
Before Cipher could respond, Umbra's tendrils lashed out, curling between the two like writhing serpents. "Enough," she said coldly, her voice sharp and commanding. "Save it for the heroes. We're here to send a message."
Cipher snorted but turned back to their device, muttering under their breath. "Relax, boss. Just saying, this is going to be a work of art."
Umbra smirked, stepping further into the light. The shadows around her rippled and stretched, as though eager to follow her command. "And once the heroes are busy saving their precious fans," she said, her voice dropping to a sinister whisper, "we pick them off. One by one. No mercy. No escape."
Her eyes glowed brighter as she tilted her head, her smile widening. "We let the world know that heroes can bleed. That they can fall."
Tremor grinned, slamming his fists together with a resounding boom that echoed through the alleyway. "Let's make them scream."
Umbra nodded, her tendrils slithering upward to latch onto the rooftop above. "Cipher, take out their comms. Tremor, with me. Let's make them regret ever thinking they could protect this city."
As they moved into the shadows, their words hung in the air like a sinister promise. The celebration nearby grew louder, oblivious to the storm of chaos about to descend.
The villains emerged from the shadows with a coordinated precision that shattered the festive atmosphere in an instant. Umbra's tendrils lashed out, snapping a string of celebratory banners in half as the trio stepped into the square. Civilians screamed and scrambled for safety, the air buzzing with panic as parents clutched their children and ran.
Heroes immediately took defensive positions, their expressions shifting from joy to grim determination. Izuku's heart pounded as he instinctively shielded Mina and Miyu, his sharp eyes locking onto the villains.
"Heroes of Musutafu!" Umbra's voice cut through the chaos like a blade. Amplified by the shadows swirling around her, it carried a menacing edge that froze some of the fleeing civilians in their tracks. "You've gathered your families, your little protégés, thinking today was safe. Thinking you could celebrate without fear."
She raised her arms, her tendrils stretching outward like dark claws over the square. "But safety is an illusion. And today, we tear it apart!"
Tremor slammed his fists into the ground with a deafening roar, sending shockwaves that cracked the pavement and toppled decorative displays. "All these kids with quirks," he growled, his voice filled with cruel delight. "They're the next generation, right? Your precious little hopes for the future?"
Cipher, perched on a nearby lamppost, their device glowing ominously, let out a low laugh. "Why waste such untapped potential? We'll take their quirks and turn them into weapons. Make them ours."
The villains' words echoed through the square, and a wave of dread swept over the heroes. The implication of what the villains intended was clear—and unforgivable.
"You'll do no such thing!" shouted Endeavor, his voice booming as flames erupted around him. "This ends here!"
Izuku felt a surge of fury and protectiveness ignite within him. His eyes darted to Mina, who was cradling Miyu tightly, her jaw set in determination. "Get her to safety," he urged, his voice tense but steady.
Mina nodded but hesitated. "You better be careful," she said, her eyes locking with his. "We're not losing you."
"You won't," he promised, activating One For All. The green lightning crackled around him as he turned back to the villains. "Not today."
Mina turned to run toward the shelter point, her heart racing as Miyu whimpered in her arms. The chaos behind her felt like it was closing in, the villains' malicious intent clawing at her mind. She reached the safety zone where a group of civilian workers were ushering families into reinforced shelters. One of the workers, a young woman with a calm demeanor, reached out her hands.
"Ma'am, we'll keep her safe," the worker said gently. "You're one of the heroes, right? Go. They need you out there."
Mina froze, clutching Miyu tighter. Her instincts screamed at her to stay, to protect her daughter, but the voices from the square echoed in her ears: We'll take their quirks and turn them into weapons. She looked down at Miyu, whose tear-filled eyes gazed up at her, and felt her heart clench.
"I…" Mina started, her voice trembling. She looked back toward the square, where Izuku and the other heroes were fighting to hold the villains back. Her hands tightened into fists. She wasn't just a mother—she was a hero. She had sworn to protect people, and that included her daughter. But the fear of leaving Miyu was paralyzing.
Suddenly, Izuku's voice crackled through the communicator still strapped to her wrist. "Mina!" he shouted, his tone urgent. "We need you! Umbra's tendrils are overwhelming everyone. You're the best counter we've got!"
Mina's breath caught. She looked down at Miyu, who had stopped crying and was staring up at her with wide, trusting eyes. The civilian worker reached out again, nodding reassuringly. "She'll be safe here, I promise. Go do what you do best."
Mina kissed Miyu's forehead, her lips lingering as tears threatened to fall. "Don't worry, cutie," she whispered, her voice trembling. "Mommy will be right back. I promise."
With one last glance, she handed Miyu to the worker, her resolve hardening. "Keep her safe," she said firmly, before turning and sprinting back toward the square.
Mina arrived just in time to see Umbra driving several heroes into retreat with her tendrils, which had grown massive and writhing, blocking any path to the children still trapped near the stage. Izuku was locked in combat with Tremor, green lightning sparking as he dodged a series of devastating punches. Cipher's device was still active, disrupting hero communication and causing chaos among the ranks.
"Mina!" Izuku called out as she arrived, relief flashing across his face. "We need you to neutralize Umbra!"
Mina nodded, her eyes narrowing as she charged forward. "Umbra!" she shouted, drawing the villain's attention. "Pick on someone who fights back!"
Umbra turned, her glowing eyes narrowing. "Ah, the acid hero," she sneered. "Finally decided to join the fun. Too bad you're too late."
Mina gritted her teeth, adrenaline coursing through her veins. "Not a chance," she snapped, launching a spray of acid that sizzled through Umbra's tendrils. The villain hissed in frustration as her shadow constructs melted away, forcing her to retreat.
With Mina focusing on Umbra, the tide of the battle began to shift. Her acid attacks neutralized the tendrils that had been overwhelming the heroes, allowing Endeavor and Hawks to move in and protect the trapped children.
Izuku, seeing Mina hold her own, doubled his efforts against Tremor, landing a powerful Detroit Smash that sent the brute crashing into a lamppost. "Stay down!" he commanded, his voice firm.
Meanwhile, Jirou and Momo worked together to disable Cipher's device, using a sonic pulse and an EMP device to short-circuit the villain's tech. "Looks like your little trick's over," Jirou said coldly as Cipher cursed and fled into the shadows.
As the villains were subdued and the square began to calm, Mina found herself back at the shelter, taking Miyu into her arms once more. The baby cooed softly, her tiny hands gripping Mina's shirt.
Izuku approached, battered but smiling. "You were incredible out there," he said, his voice full of pride.
Mina glanced down at Miyu, her heart swelling with love and relief. "I couldn't stand by while they threatened her—or any other child," she said softly. She looked back at Izuku, her eyes shining with determination. "I've made my decision. I'm going back to hero work. For her, for everyone."
Izuku nodded, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I understand. And we'll make it work—together." He couldn't really argue with her on this after putting herself at risk.
Mina smiled, pressing a kiss to Miyu's cheek. "Don't worry, cutie. Mommy's always going to have time for you. Always."
As the square began to quiet, the last of the villains subdued and the civilians safely evacuated, Mina cradled Miyu close to her chest. The baby's tiny fingers curled into Mina's shirt, her soft coos a comforting sound after the chaos. Mina couldn't help but sigh with relief as she looked down at her daughter, brushing her small forehead with her thumb.
Izuku approached, his hero suit tattered and smudged with dirt, his hair wild from the battle. Despite the exhaustion etched on his face, his green eyes sparkled with pride as they met Mina's. Without a word, he stepped closer, his hand reaching out to gently touch Miyu's tiny hand.
"She's okay," Mina said softly, her voice a mix of exhaustion and relief. "Everything's okay."
Izuku smiled, his chest swelling with pride and love. "Thanks to you," he said, his voice full of warmth. "You were amazing out there, Mina. You saved so many lives—our daughter included."
Mina blushed lightly, shifting Miyu in her arms as she looked up at him. "I couldn't let them hurt her—or anyone else. But I couldn't have done it without you," she said, her tone softening. "You've always been my rock, Izuku."
He stepped closer, his hand reaching out to rest lightly on her waist as his gaze locked onto hers. "And you've always been my strength," he replied, his voice low and filled with emotion. "We're a team, Mina. We always will be."
Mina's breath hitched, her heart swelling as she leaned into him. "Always," she whispered.
Izuku cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing lightly across her skin as he brought his lips to hers. The kiss was soft but filled with the weight of everything they had been through, a moment of connection and love in the aftermath of chaos. Mina leaned into it, her free hand resting on his chest, her heart pounding as she felt his warmth and reassurance.
As they pulled apart, their foreheads rested together, their breaths mingling as they both smiled. Miyu let out a soft gurgle, drawing their attention down to her. The baby blinked up at them with wide eyes, as if sensing the love and security that surrounded her.
Izuku chuckled, brushing his fingers gently over Miyu's cheek. "Looks like she approves," he said softly.
Mina laughed, pressing another kiss to Miyu's forehead. "She'd better," she teased, leaning into Izuku's embrace. "Because she's got the best parents in the world."
