First Chapter
The sun was setting over the sprawling town of Crocus, casting an amber glow across the arena that would soon host the Grand Magic Games. It was an event that every guild in Fiore had prepared for, but for one guild in particular, Fairy Tail, it held a deeper meaning. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation, as mages from all over the country had gathered to show their strength.
Inside the guild hall, the usual clamor had died down. Natsu, Lucy, Erza, Gray, and the rest of the team were preparing for their biggest challenge yet. But amidst the hustle, there was one glaring absence—Gildarts Clive, the strongest mage in Fairy Tail, had yet to arrive.
"Natsu, stop eating the snacks meant for the crowd!" Lucy scolded, hands on her hips.
"I'm just preparing for the feast after we win!" Natsu shot back, his mouth full.
"I hope you're not underestimating the competition," Erza remarked, adjusting her armor. "This year's GMG is different. It's going to be tough."
"Yeah, but we've got Gildarts, don't we?" Gray added, confident in the guild's ultimate trump card.
Just then, the door to the guild hall swung open with a powerful gust, and in walked the legendary mage himself—Gildarts Clive, his broad shoulders almost filling the doorway, a huge grin plastered across his face.
"Well, well. Looks like you guys are ready for the big show." Gildarts' deep voice was as warm and casual as ever, despite the glint of determination in his eyes.
"Gildarts!" Natsu and the others cheered in unison.
"I thought you'd be here sooner," Erza said, crossing her arms. "You're supposed to be our secret weapon."
"I was," Gildarts said with a wink, "but I wanted to see if you kids could handle a little heat without me."
"I'll handle anything!" Natsu boasted, his fists clenched. "Let's win this! I'm ready!"
"I don't doubt that," Gildarts replied with a smirk, though his gaze softened. "But you've still got a lot to learn, Natsu. And the GMG isn't the place for mistakes."
Natsu raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean? I'm already stronger than half of those guys!"
Gildarts shook his head, his expression turning serious. "Strength isn't just about power, Natsu. It's about control. And right now, you're still reckless with your flames."
The room quieted as Gildarts stepped forward, the intensity of his presence undeniable. "I'm going to train you, right here, right now. If we're going to win this thing, you need to be at your best."
Natsu cracked his knuckles, a determined smile spreading across his face. "I'm ready. Show me what you've got!"
"Alright then." Gildarts's voice was low, but his words held weight. "I'm not going to go easy on you. Prepare yourself, Natsu!"
Without warning, Gildarts unleashed a powerful surge of magic, causing the entire guild hall to shake. Natsu barely managed to dodge as the blast of energy hit the wall behind him, leaving a massive crater. The room was filled with the sound of splintering wood, and the rest of the guild members quickly stepped back.
"Wha—what the hell, Gildarts?!" Natsu shouted, but there was no fear in his voice—only excitement.
"That's the difference between me and you," Gildarts said, his eyes narrowing. "I don't just rely on power—I control every ounce of it. And that's what you need to learn. Mastery, Natsu. That's what makes a true dragon slayer."
Natsu clenched his fists, his eyes burning with determination. "I won't let you down!"
For the next few hours, Gildarts and Natsu clashed in the guild hall. The legendary mage taught Natsu to focus his fire magic, to strike with precision and strategy instead of pure aggression. With each blow, Natsu's understanding of his powers deepened, and despite his usual stubbornness, he began to see the wisdom in Gildarts' methods.
As the hours passed, Natsu's body ached, his muscles sore from the constant barrage of Gildarts' controlled attacks. The guild hall had become a warzone, with scorch marks on the walls and cracks in the floor from their intense sparring. Yet, Natsu's spirit remained unbroken, his fiery determination unwavering.
"You're getting there," Gildarts said, his tone approving but still serious. "But remember, Natsu, a dragon slayer's magic isn't just about power—it's about timing. Your instincts are strong, but you need to trust them and blend your strength with finesse."
Natsu wiped the sweat from his brow, his chest heaving with exhaustion. "Timing, huh? So, I need to think more before I act?"
"Exactly," Gildarts replied, giving a nod of approval. "Don't rush in blindly. If you get too impatient, your power will spiral out of control."
Natsu clenched his fists, focusing on Gildarts' words. Timing. It was something he had always struggled with, often acting on instinct and overwhelming his opponents with brute force. But now, Gildarts was showing him that there was more to being strong than just that.
"Alright, let's do it again!" Natsu said with renewed vigor, ready to face whatever Gildarts threw at him.
Gildarts didn't waste a moment. He launched a series of rapid blows—blasts of magic that created shockwaves with each strike. Natsu dodged and weaved, narrowly avoiding each attack, but this time, he was more focused. Instead of reacting on pure reflex, he waited for the right moment. He could feel the rhythm of Gildarts' movements, the subtle changes in air pressure as each blast surged forward.
"Now!" Natsu shouted, his body moving with purpose.
In a single fluid motion, he stepped into the path of Gildarts' next strike, twisting his body and unleashing a massive burst of fire from his fists. The flames collided with Gildarts' magic, creating an explosion that rocked the guild hall. Dust and debris filled the air, and the room went quiet.
When the smoke cleared, Natsu stood panting, sweat dripping from his face. He looked at Gildarts, his chest rising and falling as he waited for a response.
Gildarts stood there, his face unreadable, and for a moment, Natsu wondered if he had messed up. But then, a slow grin spread across the older mage's face.
"Well done, Natsu," Gildarts said with a hearty laugh. "You're getting it. You used your flames precisely, instead of just blasting them everywhere. That's how you'll win the GMG. That's the key to fighting smarter, not harder."
Natsu's face broke into a wide grin, his exhaustion melting away in the glow of his teacher's praise. "Yeah! I did it! I'll make sure to use this in the tournament!"
Erza, Gray, and Lucy, who had been watching from the sidelines, exchanged impressed glances. The rest of the guild had gathered, observing the intense training session, and now they could see just how far Natsu had come in such a short time.
"That was amazing, Natsu!" Lucy cheered, waving her arms excitedly. "You really improved!"
Gray nodded, impressed. "Didn't think you had it in you. But Gildarts really knows how to get the best out of you."
"I told you, Natsu's the real deal," Gildarts said, giving a teasing wink. "He's just been too stubborn to admit it."
Natsu shot him a playful glare. "Hey, I'm not stubborn!" he grumbled, though a wide grin tugged at his lips.
Gildarts chuckled, ruffling Natsu's hair. "You've come a long way, kid. But the GMG is just around the corner. You need to keep pushing yourself. And don't forget, this isn't just about winning—it's about showing the world what Fairy Tail is all about."
The guild members gathered around Natsu and Gildarts, the fire in their hearts reignited. With Gildarts' training and the spirit of Fairy Tail behind them, they knew that no matter what the GMG threw at them, they were ready to fight.
