On the one hand, I had gotten an explanation for how my cheat worked and a decade and a half shaved off my age. Both of which were nice... even as I had to seriously ponder just what I had available. On the one hand, I had been given a Tome of the Infinite that did not need to be tapped to get a spell. That... and apparently it could be fed mana to expand its spellbook selection. Of course, I could not actually feed it mana, as I did not have the ability to bind lands and gather energy from the world.
No, instead, I had a Replicating Ring. And the understanding that a 'turn' was a week. Oh, it wasn't cut and dry, but more along the lines of... well, anything that said once a turn? That was once a week, with the 'untap phase' being when it had recovered its energies to be used again. So, for the moment? I could gather a single spell each week... that I could then use next week in place of actually getting another spell. Not until two months, eight weeks, when I would finally have some mana to spare. But that did beg the question of what to do in the meantime.
Largely because I would need some time, even if I was thankful I was in Bravos instead of almost literally anywhere else. Unless the Faceless Men killed me for having magic, which was a possibility annoyingly. Still, two months, a conjured card each week... and then I could really make some plans. Nothing concreate, until I had information and power. Without those... well, there was not too much I COULD do. Not if I wanted to be able to survive in this land of treachery and murderous assholes.
The good news, some three months later? Ser Derry had recently arrived along with his charges and household staff. Which of course, is how I found myself needing to explain... well, why I was so curious. "Well, you see its simple. They have the touch of destiny about them and as such there will be interesting and potentially useful things happening near them."
Now, when that did nothing to get the swords to go away? "Also, as a mage of some small skill, I would like to be useful to a dynasty known for their connection to magic and would be less prone to trying to sacrificing me in a futile effort to gain my powers for themselves."
Which did require some small demonstrations of power... largely by summoning a few pieces of equipment thanks to the Arms Scavenger upgrade. Because yes, being able to make magical items and hand them out? That would be more palatable in some respects than some of the more... obvious upgrades that were possible. To be sure, I was still going to upgrade the book and do the other tasks needed to help and earn my keep... but in the meantime? I would be close to them in time for canon, hopefully.
William Derry
He did not really trust the sorcerer, no matter that said sorcerer was willing to be so... pleasant. Or at least give the appearance of friendliness of course. There was also the matter of why exactly he was willing to serve a king in exile, given the fact that he possessed real power of his own. Dangerous power, but one that could be harnessed and given away apparently, as he was desperate to curry favor. Which raised all sorts of questions, few of them good, even before he noticed the rings.
The mage kept them shown onto his clothes and on his person at all times, even as more would appear, regularly, every two moons identical to the others. It had reached the point where he kept a careful eye on the mage, as he clinked and clattered with rings that seemed to almost exude a faint chill, a dulling of heat and whispers as they clanked of something uncanny. And then, as the moon was high, he saw the secret. A relief and a new mystery all at once, for he was not buying them and they were not bribes, not payment.
No, instead, of the the rings seemed, as it moved, to almost melt, dripping down and reforming into a new ring. Not once, but eight times in rapid succession, even as the sorcerer then took care to stitch them into his clothes, muttering in what was probably the Old Tongue of the north or some other heathen language as he carefully counted each ring, nodding to himself. He considered the sight, and came to a conclusion. The rings likely were a source of his strength, or marked something about it. Even more than his book... it was the rings.
And perhaps, there was one ring in particular that could be taken if need be. Something to consider, as he made plans for the safety of his charges.
Brainfart
So... pretty much just a brainfart were its someone in Game of Thrones with a variant on the Infinite Tome (can be upgraded to have access to all 'draft a card from its spellbook' cards and then just 'choose one of the cards in the spellbook' instead of if being random, with all the mana costs being from a Replicating Ring... and each turn is a week. As said, mostly a brain fart, as he would be getting some other legendary artifacts eventually, as well as some enchantments, elementals and spirits.
But ultimately, he is more of an artificer type in a way that fakes being a mage
