It began with a woman's scream followed by a creature cloaked in the shadow of night bursting through the roof of a burning hut.
Bright blooms of fire danced to the sky, hot and dangerous. The inferno gluttonously consumed the dry grasses surrounding the charcoal remains of the hut, its flames licking the sides of surrounding homes. The feast would be interrupted by the stomp of Inuyasha's foot and several large pails of water.
Once the fire died out, the charred skeleton of Kagome's home became apparent. Villagers watched as Inuyasha dug through the remains. After several moments golden eyes gazed into the sky where the creature had been only moments before.
It ended with the hanyou's anguished scream.
