Chapter 5
A couple days had passed since Rey's last nightmare. In a cleared area of the temple grounds, Finn and Sky stood ready for their session. Finn demonstrated various combat techniques with his lightsaber, showcasing fluid movements and precise strikes. Sky, eager and attentive, mimicked Finn's actions, his form gradually improving under Finn's guidance. The training was rigorous, focusing on footwork, blade control, and defensive maneuvers.
In the training area, Finn's focus was unwavering as he observed Sky's efforts. The space was cleared and marked with various targets and practice dummies. Finn and Sky stood facing each other, with Finn holding his lightsaber in a defensive stance, ready to guide Sky through a series of exercises.
Finn began by demonstrating a basic sequence of strikes and parries, each movement executed with fluid precision. He moved gracefully, his lightsaber slicing through the air with practiced ease. Sky watched intently, absorbing the techniques and trying to replicate them.
"First, let's work on your stance," Finn instructed, moving to adjust Sky's feet. "Your weight should be evenly distributed. This will help you stay balanced and respond quickly to any attack."
Finn then demonstrated the correct positioning for the initial strike. He emphasized how every motion should be deliberate and controlled, a balance between aggression and defense. Sky mirrored the movements, his strikes initially lacking the finesse Finn displayed. Finn's keen eye caught the subtle flaws in Sky's form.
As Sky executed a series of strikes, Finn offered immediate feedback. "Your swing is too wide," Finn observed, stepping in to demonstrate a more compact and precise movement. "Keep your strikes close to your body. It's not about the force behind the swing, but the accuracy and speed of the blade."
Sky adjusted his stance and attempted the strike again, his movements smoother this time. Finn nodded approvingly. "That's better. Now, let's add a defensive maneuver. After each attack, you need to be prepared to block or parry. It's all about flow."
They moved through a series of combinations—attacks followed by immediate blocks and counter-attacks. Finn's role was to challenge Sky, varying the intensity of his own attacks to test Sky's reactions and adaptability. When Sky managed to block or parry an attack with improved precision, Finn's approval was evident in his nod and encouraging words.
"Good, you're getting the hang of it," Finn said, observing Sky's growing confidence. "Remember, every move has a purpose. It's not just about speed or strength; it's about precision and balance. Trust your instincts and let the Force guide your actions."
As they continued, Finn introduced more advanced techniques, gradually increasing the complexity of the drills. Sky, initially hesitant, began to respond with more assurance. His movements became more fluid, and his strikes more controlled. Finn could see the young man's confidence growing with each successful maneuver, and he allowed himself a satisfied smile.
"Keep practicing," Finn advised as he concluded the session. "The more you train, the more instinctive these movements will become. And remember, it's not just about your physical abilities. It's about your connection with the Force and your ability to stay calm under pressure."
Finn watched as Sky wiped the sweat from his brow, a look of determination in his eyes. The progress he had made was evident, and Finn felt a sense of accomplishment in knowing that he had played a role in shaping the future of the Jedi Order.
As the weeks passed, Rey could see that Keira was naturally skilled in the Force, despite her limited training. Encouraged by her potential, Rey pushed Keira in a supportive and positive way. She guided Keira through a complex obstacle course designed to test her agility, problem-solving skills, and sensitivity to the Force. Set in the rugged, natural terrain of the temple grounds, the course used the environment to create a series of challenges for the students.
The course consisted of several key sections: A steep rock climb with varying handholds and footholds, where Keira used her agility and strength, combined with occasional Force-assisted leaps, to scale the wall. A Force Maze, a labyrinth with barriers and shifting walls, required Keira to rely on her Force abilities to sense the correct path, navigating through it with instinct and quick reflexes. Finally, there was a sprint across collapsing platforms, where Keira had to use both her agility and Force awareness to avoid falling and reach the finish line.
As Keira faced each section, Rey provided encouragement and guidance. "Focus on your breathing and let the Force guide you," Rey advised as Keira neared the rock climb.
Keira's determination was evident as she tackled each obstacle. Though she stumbled a few times, she quickly regained her focus, driven by a desire to succeed.
After completing the course, Keira sat down, breathing heavily but wearing a satisfied smile. Rey joined her, offering her a water bottle and giving her a reassuring pat on the back. "You did great, Keira. Each challenge made you stronger and more attuned to the Force."
Nearby, Finn and Sky finished their combat training. Finn walked over to Rey, noticing the look of exhaustion mixed with determination on her face. "How's Keira doing?" he asked.
"She's doing really well," Rey replied. "She has the talent and the drive. It's just about channeling it the right way."
As the days went on, both Rey and Finn continued guiding their students, each moment bringing them closer to building a new generation of Jedi. Despite the shadows of their pasts and the challenges ahead, they found a renewed sense of purpose and hope in their work.
As the sun began to set, its golden light washed over the temple grounds. The sound of laughter and the hum of lightsabers filled the air, marking another day of progress and learning for the new Jedi.
