Some random day earlier before the Ghetsis incident, there was a battle between Brendan and Norman with N and Silver with Alder as the referee. The battle soon started once he yelled out, "Battle begins, now!" and Brendan instantly commanded Sceptile to attack first, along with Norman's Slaking.
N made Silver cooperate with him, leaving him a smile once just before attacking back with N's Zekrom and Silver's Ho-Oh.

The battle didn't last long. However, the conclusion of the battle resulted with a draw. N and Silver were somewhat dumbfounded by the resolution but was soon lightened up by Alder with a happy reply.

"Thanks for teaming up with me, Dad!" Brendan thanked Norman. "It was super easy to battle with you supporting me!"

Norman nodded, "With all these opportunities for us to team up, I'm getting used to your style of battling. I can tell you've gone a long way and gotten yourself a lot stronger, Brendan." He replied with a gentle smile.
Brendan chuckled back with self congratulation with N and Silver watching back at them.

During with that beautiful relationship with the two Hoenn relatives, N and Silver discuss privately while watching the relatives happily compliment each other and giggling. To them - N mostly, it was quite a lovely reaction and an example of how it was like to have a family collaborated with their kid.

Soon, a voice interrupted their moment. "N! You have to hear this!"

Everyone turned around to that person with a very concerned expression.

There was Nate, walking towards N with a warned look on his face. "Nate? What's wrong?" N asked.

"Earlier, someone at the Pokémon Center..." Nate replied. "They said they saw Ghetsis! He might be here on Pasio!" His voice raised for a sudden.

N's eyes widened. "Ghetsis...? You're not...serious, are you?"

"I'm not sure..." Nate looked down. "But I do remember I saw a person saying that they saw him. I reckon he's here!"

Alder interrupted in the conversation. "Okay, okay, Nate. My apologies for butting in, but how many trainers were there that were listening or discussing about Ghetsis returning?"

Nate ducked his visor. "Well, there was one trainer explaining it, but I guess there were like five listening?"

"Who is this 'Ghetsis' you're talking about?" Silver scoffed.

"He's an evil nemesis who is N's father back in Unova." Alder replied firmly. "He once tried to conquer the region by freezing it."

N sighed a little, then looked back at Nate and placed his hand on his shoulder. "Nate, I appreciate you for telling me about this, but can we please continue this alone in the Pokémon Center?"

Nate nodded in response, he turned his head away from Silver and Alder, where Brendan and Norman are. He ducked down his visor again in remorse. "I'm sorry for interrupting your moment...I hope I didn't cause you guys anything."

Norman shook his head and nodded. "No, it's all good. You just continue what you have to do now." He smiled.

Nate smiled back, then looked at N seriously. "I suppose we should go now." N said and waved goodbye, then both him and Nate trailed off.

Alder and Silver discussed things until they also walked off.

...

"...That battle was amazing with you, dad!" Brendan thanked him again. "Although, I'm quite curious about what's going on with what Nate said..."

"I don't really think it's our concern for now, Brendan." Norman replied. "However, if you want to figure it out on your own, I wouldn't mind. Just don't cause any danger, okay?"

Brendan nodded. "Alright then! Thank you, dad!" He soon ran into the fields.

Norman waved back at him.

...

As time passes on, all Brendan did was check up on N's situation on the sudden incident; he was usually hiding in places where nobody can actually find him and peacefully eavesdrops about everything. Pretty shocking that it took him two days and one night for him to do, even if it wasn't the right option, he was pretty nosy and didn't want to disrupt anyone from them for trying to fix the incident.
It was his first time seeing Ghetsis as well, but not face to face.

Since Ghetsis yelled at N deceivingly for proving that he isn't his father the whole he was with him, Brendan felt a slight devastation inside him. And he noticed Nate tearing up just after Ghetsis disappeared in thin air, then decided to hide behind the rocks more so nobody would notice he was eavesdropping on everything that happened.

He heard Nate's complete sorrow and disgust that he had to bear alongside N with the pain. It has to really hurt much if he was Nate in an alternate world where he had to watch N suffer, it wasn't fair or right.

"I can't help it! It's so messed up!" Nate cried, his voice was literally in desperate pain. "You're not asking for anything special! You just want a normal relationship with the man you call your father..."

Brendan sighed and lowered his eyebrows in sympathy.

"It's not asking for much! Why can't you have that too?!" Nate screamed again, sobbing intensely.

"Nate...Really, it's OK." N replied, calmly.

"N..."

Everyone soon smiled once N looked at all of them, excluding Brendan. Silver was close to making contact with him however. Luckily he had his eyes closed to a cool expression.
"I may not have a father, but I have people like you to call my friends." N replied a happy giggle.

"N..." Nate sobbed, ducking his visor lower to hide his devastated look.

"Yeah, you can survive without a father..." Silver sighed.

N nodded, and then faces to the edge of the cliff up in the night sky directly at the moon. He sighed a little, continuing to smile. He soon had thoughts that he felt valuable that he has friends, and knew that things wasn't meant to be right for him. But at least everything turned out to be alright in the end.

...

Just as Brendan was about to make an entrance, he spotted Nate trotting off slowly without anyone aware of it besides him. However, he began pretending he didn't see Nate and took several deep breathes. He had huge eyebags due to him not sleeping for a night!

N soon turned over to see who was making the near footsteps, and to his surprise, he recognised the Hoenn trainer he battled yesterday afternoon with alongside Silver and the Gym Leader. "Oh, why if it isn't Brendan from before!" He waved.

"Hey, N...!" Brendan's voice was slightly hoarse in exhaustion, yet waved back at N.

Alder noticed Brendan's current physical look, "Say...you look like you haven't slept in a day, Brendan." He reflected. "It's good to see you again, though."

Brendan looked at him, trying to stand up well. "I know..." He chuckled a little. "So...did I miss on anything? I probably did, haven't I?"

Silver scoffed laughingly. "Probably. Or mostly a yes."

"Yeah. I'm very sorry you didn't get a chance to see it in your own eyes." N nodded. "Or on a second thought, it probably was better that you weren't there."

"Mhm." Alder agreed. "Just after we encountered Giovanni and some Team Break members, we soon had a tangle with Ghetsis until he told N that he's not his father..." He shook his head in pain. "Then he...disappeared into thin air. It's much worse when you think about it."

Brendan lowered his eyebrows in remorse. All that pain left him a slight sigh in the chest. "So, that happened...I'm so sorry you have to go through that..." He spoke to N.

N nodded with a gentle smile. "It's all good now. At least you're now understanding the full story, or maybe just say 75 percent of it."

"Say, do you know where Nate is?" Silver looked around for any signs of Nate, but failed.

N noticed as well. "Oh. That's right. We haven't heard him for a while."

Alder smiled. "He's probably trailed off without saying goodbye. Pretty sure he felt too much about this ruckus, which I quite understand. It had to be very painful to go through, hm?"

Brendan chuckled a little alongside with N. "I understand that too." N replied.

...

Nate was hiding behind a giant rock the entire time even when Brendan arrived. He continued watching the four of them discuss somewhat different things. It didn't really interest him much; he only just wanted to see them even though he had no idea what's going on.

With tears shown into his eyes, he soon remembered back to his childhood trauma*. It's quite simple to confirm that N wasn't the only Unovan with such father issues.
It quite lead to a suspicion that Nate has been crying for two times about N's stress throughout the Ghetsis drama.

Can I tell them how I feel...? Was the only thing Nate thought in his mind. He knew it was a selfish thing to do, just run off disbelievingly without N, Alder or even Silver knowing. But he had no option. Anxiety pushed him away. If they found out, boy wouldn't be like the classic drama shows you see back in the days.

"Ah, there he is."

A male voice soon shook Nate that it made him leap a little.
"O-Oh...it's you..." Nate trembled shortly, clutching his to his chest in relief.

"My apologies for scaring you." Norman chucked. "Say, didn't we first met in a sudden situation back in noon yesterday?"

Nate lowered his visor and nodded. "Uh...yeah! I think we did..."

Norman grinned back at him. "Well, I pretty sure we did just that. Anyways, we didn't get to introduce ourselves either. My name's Norman, and I'm a Gym Leader back in Hoenn."

"I'm Nate...a trainer back in Unova." Nate soon shook hands with Norman. He left it with a nervous smile.

Norman accepted the fact Nate shook hands with him, and soon pointed to his son where nobody else other than Nate was looking. "And that boy right there you see, that's Brendan. My son." He stopped pointing. "This might surprise you for a while, but apparently he's Hoenn's champion for quite some time now."

All that Nate could do is nod, he didn't want to ask some silly questions which would confuse Norman if he had the chance. And funny at all that it didn't surprise him that much, considering his cousin just recently won two Pokémon Leagues.* Whilst he just participated in the Battle Subway back in Unova, but was involved within the Team Plasma incident alongside his cousin and N.

"We were originally at Unova when Brendan became born, you know? He made some very nice friends in his preschool before he knew what Pokémon were. But since eight years after, we were forced to move to Johto due to unexpected rent." Norman explained. "And then four years through, we had to move again..."

Nate looked at him again, his chest feeling a bit warm while Norman continued talking about his past with and about his son. Something felt a bit touching according to him, and it was a thing that Nate did not experience throughout his childhood.
It felt precisely unfair.

Norman looked at him, "So, how are you lately? Enjoying Pasio much?" He calmly grinned again.

"Oh, uh...pretty good!" Nate replied, changing back to his cheerful persona. "This region's pretty cool, even if it's such a small island! Imagine they had a Battle Subway here though..."

"...A what?"

"O-Oh, sorry! Was just saying things is all..." Nate tilted his visor in embarrassment.

Norman lent out a chuckle. "All good! Anyways, was Brendan able to catch up during this situation?"

"Uh, no. He didn't." Nate replied. "However, if he did. It actually would've been better..."

"Really? Why's that?"

Nate sighed in a happy way, "N had to go through a massive problem, and I only have to half his pain away."

"I see, it does sound hard enough." Norman nodded. "Also, haven't you and Brendan actually met before?"

Nate shook his head.

"Really, huh? I thought you two would be a compatible match. Maybe someday, if we can hangout together with Brendan, would that be okay with you?"

Nate just stood there, looking at Norman hesitatingly and then nodded in an unexpected happy way. "Of course! I like to know to the both of you more..."

Norman left a big smile on his face. "I like to see that happen."

Nate smiled and nodded back.

...

It really wasn't a good moment for Nate to picture back his past, not for one moment gone to the next.
