"I won't ever be able to do it!" Kakashi exclaimed, frustrated with the lack of progress in his manifestation of the mangekyou sharingan. "Try to focus on an object in front of you, rather than yourself." Obito replied calmly. It had been three days since the Hokage went missing, and Obito's sharingan had not yet returned. The people of the village were told that Hiruzen would be the acting Hokage and that Minato would return from his "top secret mission" within the week. The fact was that barely any of the villagers believed this story, as Minato's departure had been so sudden, and the village was no longer at war.

Kakashi pulled out a kunai and launched it at a wall, sticking it straight in. "Fine. I'll try using it on this." He grumbled. Kakashi felt enormous pressure to manifest his mangekyou sharingan, but his training with Obito wasn't leading anywhere. This was the first time Obito had surpassed him in anything, and he didn't like it. He knew he had felt the power when Rin died, but he had been too depressed to attempt to master it. "Remember, focus on Rin. We both unlocked this power through her sacrifice. She will help you manifest it."

Glaring at the kunai in the wall, Kakashi closed both eyes and focused on his memories of going on missions as team 7. Sitting under the tree with Rin and Minato sensei, studying while waiting for Obito to show up. It truly was a simpler time. Opening his eyes, Kakashi screamed "Kamui!" and the kunai vanished in a swirl of light. He had done it! Kakashi had managed to use his mangekyou sharingan. "You did it!" Obito smiled. This was the first time that Kakashi had seen that joy in Obito's eyes since the day he was thought to have died.

"You should be able to perform it on yourself in no time. Knowing you, I think you'll be able to do it by tomorrow." Obito said to Kakashi from his jail cell. It was strange that the two were closer than ever, after Obito had deserted the village and killed three of Kakashi's comrades, but Kakashi had truly killed the anger inside of him toward Obito in the last year without him. Kakashi smirked at Obito's display of his confidence in him. He decided right there to stay at the jail overnight practicing on bigger and bigger items.

Kushina was starting to get worried that Kakashi was over-exerting himself in his sharingan training, so she decided to pay him a late night visit. Knock knock knock "Kakashi Kun, may I come in?" Kushina wasn't surprised to not receive a response. "He should not be training this late." She grumbled as she started walking in the direction of the police station. Kushina had spent enough time with Minato while he was with his squad to know that Kakashi was way too stubborn about training. She entered the room ready to berate Kakashi for not resting when she saw the two boys slumped over back to back with the metal bars of the jail cell between them.

It took all her power to not say "Aww" at the two. She had seen them grow up with such intense animosity toward each other, and was immensely glad to see that the circumstances had led them to grow closer to each other. Kakashi needed friends, and Obito didn't need any enemies. Kushina opted to allow the two their rest, and left the jail, closing the door behind her softly so as not to wake them up. Kakashi's scolding for overworking himself could wait until the next day.

Kakashi woke to the sound of a shuriken landing on the floor in front of him. Muttering something about not getting enough sleep, he stood up and walked over to blow out the candle in front of him. It was a common ninja technique to put a shuriken in a candle as an alarm clock. Once the candle burned down to the shuriken, it would fall and make a noise. Kakashi collected himself. Today was the day he would get Minato sensei back. He walked over his bag of ninja tools, and closed his eyes. "Just like I practiced yesterday." He thought. Thinking of his friends, he waved his hand over the bag, and watched it disappear.

Triumphantly, Kakashi walked over to where Obito was still sleeping, and told him the news. "I was able to use Kamui on my bag full of tools!" Obito grinned. "I knew you'd get it done quickly! That was the last step before attempting it on yourself. Are you ready?" Kakashi nodded. It may have only taken three days, but he felt confident in his ability to reproduce his previous success.

"Alright, do it just like this." Obito instructed, waving his palm over his body from top to bottom. "It's basically exactly what you did with the bag. Focus on the chakra flowing through your hand." Kakashi gave his friend an affirmative nod, and then sighed. It was finally time. He gathered himself in the same way he had been, and then waved his hand over his body with his palm facing toward himself.

This one felt different. Kakashi could feel himself being pulled through space time, and suddenly he was on a stone platform surrounded by other smaller stone platforms. Minato was standing in front of him, looking very confused. "Kakashi! Are you hurt? Where is the masked man?" Minato exclaimed, startled by the sudden appearance of his protégé. Kakashi only laughed. "You have much to catch up on sensei." Minato was shocked to see his student laughing. Kakashi had always kept to himself, and he did smile sometimes back when team 7 was a thing, but Minato had never seen him laugh.

"What are you talking about? The battle just ended." Minato was growing more and more confused by the second. "I'll let Obito explain everything." Kakashi laughed again. "Let's get you home." At the mention of Obito's name, Minato's mouth formed into an "o" shape. He tried once again to ask Kakashi what was going on, but was interrupted by the boy yelling "Kamui!" and suddenly Minato was in a dark room with jail cells. Kushina walked in just as Minato was standing up. "Welcome home love!" She said, beaming ear to ear.

"I guess I should explain myself." Minato heard from the other side of the metal bars in front of him. "I'm sorry for not telling anybody that I survived." Obito started, as Kakashi appeared next to Minato. Seeing the orange mask in the boy's hand, Minato started connecting the dots. The Hokage summoned his signature jutsu, the Rasengan, and without saying a word, broke through the bars of the jail cell and in a flash he was hugging his student. "Obito. You can explain everything later. I don't know how you're here, but I'm so sorry I wasn't able to save Rin. Please forgive me."

Obito smiled. "Sensei, I'm the only one who should be asking for forgiveness." He responded, embracing his former mentor. Minato smiled, letting go of the boy. "I'm sure there's lots for me to hear about, so let's go somewhere nicer to talk about this." He then grabbed the hands of his wife and two students, teleporting them immediately to the Hokage's office.

"Minato! I am so relieved to see you!" Hiruzen shouted from behind a stack of papers. The fourth Hokage chuckled. He quickly teleported the papers away, filing it away as a task to get done at a later date. "I'll call for Fugaku. He's been very invested in this situation." Hiruzen said, standing up from Minato's desk. "Obito, why don't you catch Minato up to speed while we wait for him."

A/N: Another short chapter, but I'd rather get them out more frequently than make them longer. Once again I'm still looking for suggestions for a name for the story. Also all constructive criticism of my writing is appreciated. Thanks for all the reviews. I look forward to hearing from more people.
