Act I, Scene I. A dreary corridor in the castle of Hogwarts. Enter Draco Malfoy, clad in robes most silken, his countenance a mix of disdain and a secret longing.
Draco:
Oh spiteful fate, why dost thou mock me so?
In yonder boy, the one with lightning's scar,
I see my bane, my rival—aye, my foe!
And yet, my heart doth quiver like a star.
Accursed Potter! Thou art like the sun,
Too bright for mine own eyes, yet I'm undone.
Enter Harry Potter, his hair an unruly nest, his glasses askew, yet with a mien most determined. He pauses, startled by Draco's soliloquy.
Harry:
Malfoy? What's this? Dost thou prattle alone?
I thought thee more inclined to scorn and sneer.
Yet here thou stand'st, as though thy heart hath grown,
Or doth thy tongue but wag to mask thy fear?
Draco (startled):
Potter! Thou knave, dost thou skulk in shadows?
Art thou a man, or but a creeping toad?
I wax poetic not for thee, I suppose,
But for mine own sake—leave me my abode!
Harry (grinning):
Ah, methinks thou protesteth far too much,
Thy venomous words betray a softer touch.
Draco (aside):
He sees through me! A curse upon his wit!
Yet in his smile, my doom is rightly writ.
Act II, Scene II. The Great Hall. A feast is laid, yet Draco and Harry sit far apart, casting glances most furtive. Ron and Hermione take notice.
Ron:
Hermione, dost thou see what I espy?
Yon ferret and our Harry, eye to eye!
Hermione:
Ronald, thou dolt, thy vision is astray,
They look not with affection, nay, nay, nay.
Ron:
Then why doth Malfoy blush like summer's rose?
And why doth Harry sigh as though he knows?
Hermione:
By Merlin's beard, thou might'st have spied aright!
This warrants study deep into the night.
Act III, Scene III. A deserted dungeon. Draco and Harry confront one another, wands drawn but trembling.
Draco:
Potter, I tire of this endless charade,
Our duels and insults, this game we have played.
Doth it not weigh heavy, this hate we bear?
Canst thou not feel the tempest in the air?
Harry (lowers wand):
Malfoy, thy words strike deeper than a blade.
In truth, I've dreamed of peace, yet was afraid.
If thou wouldst extend thy hand, unarmed, sincere,
Perchance our fates might shift to something clear.
Draco (hesitant):
Potter, thou fool, why must thou speak so fair?
Thou makest my heart dance as though in despair.
They step closer, their breaths mingling. Suddenly, Peeves the Poltergeist bursts in, cackling wildly.
Peeves:
Oh ho, what's this? A tryst in the night?
Malfoy and Potter, caught in love's plight!
Draco (horrified):
Begone, thou spectral pest, thou spawn of strife!
Thy meddling tongue may yet cost me my life!
Harry (laughing despite himself):
Let him tell the world; what care have I?
I'd rather face the truth than live a lie.
Act IV, Scene I. The Astronomy Tower. The two meet in secret, their rivalry now turned to a fragile affection.
Draco:
Oh Harry, cursed be this world so cruel,
That binds me to my father's iron rule.
Would that I could break free and fly to thee,
But chains of duty shackle me to thee.
Harry:
Draco, thou art more than thy father's will,
A soul unchained, a heart both fierce and still.
Fear not the storm, for I shall stand by thee,
Together, we shall forge our destiny.
They clasp hands, gazing at the stars, their love as bittersweet as the night itself.
Act V, Scene III. The Battle of Hogwarts rages. Amidst the chaos, Draco and Harry fight side by side.
Draco:
If I must fall, let it be at thy side,
For in thy gaze, my fears are cast aside.
Harry:
Live, Draco, live! For love shall yet prevail,
Though death may tempt, our bond shall never fail.
Draco is struck by a curse meant for Harry. He collapses, and Harry catches him, cradling him in his arms.
Draco (weakly):
Fear not, my love, for even as I fade,
Our story shall endure, though bittersweetly made.
Remember me, and let our hearts remain,
As one, beyond the veil of mortal pain.
Draco breathes his last. Harry screams to the heavens, his anguish heard above the din of war.
Harry:
Oh cruel stars, why doth thou rend my heart?
To take my love and tear my soul apart!
Yet in his name, I shall this battle win,
And cleanse this world of hatred's grievous sin!
Epilogue. The fields of Hogwarts, years later. Harry stands by a white marble tomb, a single lily in hand.
Harry:
Draco, though time hath passed, my love holds true,
Each star above reminds me still of you.
In life we clashed, in love we found release,
And in thy memory, I find my peace.
He lays the flower down, the wind whispering through the trees like the ghost of a laugh. Curtain falls.
