Chapter 11

Dean was pacing outside the gate of the salvage yard waiting on Jody. He looked up when headlights pierced the night and pulled to a stop beside him.

"Where are we going?" Jody asked once Dean got in the vehicle.

"To a house on the outskirts of town. The address is 3425 Wind River Road. Take Route 9 out of town."

"I know where it's at. There are some empty houses over there that are for sale. I think one they rent out."

"That's where the killer is staying."

Jody turned around and headed across town toward the house. She pressed hard on the gas pedal knowing time was of the essence. She could feel the tension pouring off Dean and knew he was worried about Sam and Bobby. She was worried too and hoped they were not too late.

"Stop at one of the houses that's for sale," Dean told Jody. "Sammy would have left my Baby hidden nearby."

Jody pulled up the driveway of a house and when she rounded the curve saw the Impala parked there. She pulled in beside it and killed the engine. They got out and Dean went to the car for a moment, rubbing a hand over the hood and looking inside.

"Jody, I need you to do exactly what I tell you," Dean told her as he strapped a machete to his belt. He held out two syringes to her. "This is dead man's blood. I am going to get the monster's attention and you need to inject him with this. I think we are dealing with a vampire. Anyway, I hope that's the case."

"And if we're not?"

"I have silver bullets in my gun and taking off the head should end just about anything else. You need to hang back and wait for your opening."

"Isn't this dangerous to you Dean?"

"Yeah, it's not the first time, won't be the last. Let's go." Dean started down the driveway with Jody following him. They stayed in the shadows as they approached the house. They saw dim lights shining through several windows. Dean headed around to the back to enter through the backdoor.

"At least we know he's here?" Jody whispered to Dean. "Where should we start looking?"

"He's here and so is Sammy," Dean mumbled looking toward the open door that led to the basement. He walked carefully toward the dark opening and looked down the steps seeing a flickering light coming from somewhere. "Remember Jody, wait until I distract him, then strike."

"I will," Jody nodded as she pulled the syringes from her pocket.

Dean quietly and carefully walked down the wooden steps, testing each one before putting his full weight on it. He moved quickly toward the light and a rage built inside of him when he saw his brother strung up and a stranger standing in front of him inserting a large needle into his arm.

"No!" Dean yelled as he brought the machete around in an arc to take off the vampire's head.

He wasn't sure if it was because he was still weak and not a hundred percent, but the blade never landed as the vampire dodged and grabbed Dean's arm and threw him to the floor hard. The breath was knocked from Dean, and he lost the machete.

"What have we here?" the vampire sneered as he loomed over Dean.

"Leave my brother alone!" Sam cried out as he jerked on his bindings trying to free himself.

"Your brother," Van Breacher laughed. "This is a treat. I'm going to have a nice meal off your brother here and then I'm going to drain you and your sidekick there," he nodded to Bobby who was tied up, laying on the floor.

"I'll finish with my other pets and pack up to move on to another town and set up shop."

"You bastard," Sam growled at him, pulling harder and making blood seep from between the ropes and run down his arms.

Van Breacher's body jerked as Dean shot him several times until he knocked the gun from his hand. He grabbed Dean by the jacket and jerked his upper body up as Dean tried to fight him. He landed a couple of blows but that didn't faze the vampire.

Van Breacher was so focused on Dean, he didn't sense Jody coming up behind him. With all the energy she had, Jody drove the syringes into his neck and pressed the plungers, delivering the blood into Van Breacher's system.

"Ugh!" the vampire screamed in agony as he dropped Dean and fell to the floor. He withered and cried out in pain as the poison blood coursed through his body, making him weak and helpless.

Dean coughed hard and got up on his hands and knees and gripped the machete in his hand before staggering to his feet. He drew the machete back with both hands and brought it down across the vampire's neck, severing the head. With that done, Dean turned his focus on his brother.

"Sammy," Dean croaked as he staggered toward him.

"Check on Bobby," Sam told him.

"I've got him," Jody said. She dropped beside Bobby and pulled out a knife to cut his bindings. She checked his pulse and tapped his cheeks to try and wake him.

"Hold on," Dean told Sam as he pulled the line from his arm and then took out a knife to cut him down. He tried to catch his body but ended up stumbling backwards and they both ended up on the floor.

"Nice catch," Sam muttered.

"Get off me, you weigh a ton," Dean grunted, pushing at Sam's body.

"Hold on," Sam fussed as he rolled off him. He pushed himself to a sitting position and looked down at his brother. "Are you okay?" he asked looking Dean's body over for injury.

"I'll get back to you on that," Dean groaned as pain raced up and down his body. His previous injuries were irritated, and hurting worse now so it was hard for him to take a deep breath.

"Bobby's waking up," Jody told them as Bobby jerked and came around. "You guys get out of here and I'll call for help for the other victims."

"Can you walk Sammy?" Dean asked him as he tried to stand and almost fell if Sam hadn't steadied him.

"I should be asking you that," Sam chastised him getting an arm around his waist. "Bobby, can you make it."

"Hold on Sam," Jody told him. "You're bleeding, here let me wrap it," she continued pulling a bandana from her pocket and wrapping it around one of Sam's wrist that was still seeping blood.

"I hadn't even noticed," Sam said as he watched her doctor his injury.

"I need to take care of the body," Bobby told them as he looked at the beheaded corpse.

"You go with your boys," Jody told him. "I'll take care of this. I'll come up with a story. Now go," she insisted.

"Thanks Jody for saving our asses," Sam told her squeezing her arm and smiling. "You're the best."

"All part of the job," she replied. "Now, get your brother out of here."

"Come on boys," Bobby nodded as he gripped Jody's arm for a moment giving his own thanks before turning to leave. He helped Sam with Dean, and they made their way up the stairs.

"Easy Dean," Sam cautioned him as he stumbled and almost went down. He would have stumbled himself if Bobby hadn't grabbed him.

"Goes for you too Sam," Bobby huffed. "At least the car's not far. I'm driving and no complaining. Neither of you are in any shape to drive."

"Okay Bobby," Sam replied pulling the keys from his pocket to hand to him. He waited as Bobby unlocked the car and got Dean settled in the back before getting in on the passenger side.

"When we get home, you boys head on to bed and get some rest. I'll check in with Jody and be sure things are good on her end. And Sam, doctor your wrists so they don't get infected."

"Alright Bobby," Sam nodded as he leaned his head back and closed his eyes. His arm stung where the needle had been inserted, his wrists were raw and sore, and he had aches from being tossed around, but luckily he had no major injuries.

The Impala slowed to pull through the gates of the salvage yard and around to the front of the house. Bobby pulled to a stop and cut the engine off.

"We're here boys," Bobby said tapping Sam's arm and looking in the back at Dean who was slumped over.

"Okay," Sam grimaced as he opened the door and eased from the car. He opened the back to get Dean out. "C'mon bro, let's get you out of here." He grunted as he took the weight of Dean to help him out of the back of the car.

They made their way up the front steps and into the house and then staggered together to the staircase. It was slow going to get Dean up to the second floor and to their bedroom. "Let me get your boots and jacket off," Sam said gently as he sat him on the bed. "I'm not going to bother undressing you."

"Yeah, yeah," Dean mumbled as his head slumped forward. He let Sam guide him down on the bed and sighed with relief.

Once Dean was settled, Sam walked across the hall to the bathroom to look at his wrists. The bandana had dried to his skin, so he ran water until it warmed before sticking his wrist under the water. He hissed as the warm water soaked through the bandana and onto his raw, red wrist. When it was saturated, Sam carefully began to peel it from his skin, wincing and drawing in a sharp breath. He sighed with relief when it was off and checked the damage he had done trying to get free.

Once he gently washed both wrists and patted them dry, Sam pulled the first aid kit from under the sink and got out the antibiotic cream and gauze. He coated his injuries and wrapped them for protection, taping the gauze in place. With that done, he headed back to the bedroom, ready for some sleep.

Sam didn't bother taking his clothes off either as he slipped his boots off and lay on top of the covers exhausted. He tried to empty his mind and took some deep breaths willing his body to relax so he could sleep.

He was grateful for Bobby's help with this hunt and knew he could always rely on him. Jody was a trooper and becoming a hunter herself. They were lucky to have her on their side and she could cover for them with other authorities. As he drifted off to sleep, he was wondering what type of story would be in the newspaper tomorrow, certain it would be a good one.

The hunt was over with minor injuries and the brothers lived to fight another day. There were other hunts out there waiting on them and when they were healed, recharged and ready, they would see where the next one took them.
