T41: Cave Dwellers.
Later, Cameron, Rocco, Leo, Will, Mickey, Todd, the squirrel and raccoon were sitting around a camp-fire they had made by gathering sticks and grass, with Will lighting them with a match he had gotten out of his backpack from a match-box. Will had taken his backpack off and it was resting on the ground behind him, with his flashlight now back inside it.
"So how do you like it so far?" Will asked.
"Well, it's not exactly Grandma's 18th century house." Rocco answered.
"No, you're right about that. Our family's not ranting at each other. Aunt Lulu and Brooklyn aren't bickering over Dustin. I kind of miss the backyard and the tree-house though." Cameron said.
"Yeah, and our family." Leo said.
"Yeah, but you know, we're gonna see them again soon. Right? I mean...we'll be okay." Cameron said.
"You really believe that?" Rocco asked.
"Yeah." Cameron said.
"How 'bout you, Will? You miss your folks?" Leo asked.
"Well...i miss my Mom and my real Dad, but...look, my Mom was giving me all that talk about how she was gonna talk with my step-Dad and convince him not to kill Todd and cook him for Thanksgiving dinner and i know she wouldn't have won that debate. She was never gonna be able to get through to him." Will answered and explained.
"Will, we're gonna do everything we can to help you and Todd get to that fox village." Cameron assured.
"I'm glad to hear you say that. 'Cause when we finally get to the forest-"
"And the Fox Haven." Cameron added.
"We can release Todd into the village...and head back home to our families. Life will be okay. Better than okay. Well...at least for you guys it will." Will said.
"Will, are you...are you sure you're ready to give up Todd?" Rocco asked. "What about watching him grow up?" He knew the whole point in this journey was for Will to get Todd some place safe, but was he really ready to say goodbye to the little fox kit?
"I'm not giving him up...i'm giving him a future." Will answered.
