Chapter5: Apologies, Christmas and Wands
"Minerva, Harry was right. I apologize for keeping you in the dark even after you never gave a reason for not being trustworthy. I thought I was protecting you by not giving you the information, but I was wrong. As Harry said, you are quite a powerful witch I should have trusted. I will ensure to include you in everything I can from now on." Dumbledore said earnestly, and she nodded.
"See that you do, Albus. And since you have apologized, you are forgiven," she said, giving him a genuine smile.
"What do you make of Harry, Minerva?" he asked her
"He has changed. He has become more confident, knowledgeable, and mature. Plus, he was more happy than ever with his daughter. Also, he has quite the power," she said, smiling.
"Yes, he has, and we did the right thing in accepting Emily as our goddaughter. It will be fun. Harry is doing very good while raising her," he said, smiling at his pupil's behavior with the daughter.
"I think we have a lot to think about. We should trust Harry after the trust he has shown us," she said thoughtfully; and he nodded, then she left, deep in thought.
She was surprised to be invited to the conversation. Dumbledore always kept things close to his chest, which she hated. Then Harry had entered the office, and his seriousness had worried her. Then he told them to watch the memory; she had felt regret, anger, and sadness at seeing one of her cubs treated that way. She had been surprised when he had forgiven them and was shocked when he thoroughly chastised the Headmaster for not trusting her. She wanted to laugh out loud at the thoroughly chastised Dumbledore but kept in at the seriousness of the situation. She also felt sadness for Harry after learning about the prophecy and extreme anger towards Dumbledore for keeping it a secret from Harry instead of training him to be ready.
She was again surprised when Harry took it more maturely than most adults. She saw how Harry was afraid to reveal his daughter's identity even to them but had done that and made her the godmother; she was elated at being shown such trust. She was also happy seeing how Harry treated his daughter with love, compassion, and discipline.
Harry had told them about his training for the war and being way above his peers. She was proud of how he conducted himself to make Albus realize that he also needed help and could ask her for it and how he had done so much alone without anyone's help. She was definitely proud of Harry. He was definitely her best student. Ever. She had seen the way Harry looked longingly and fearfully at Miss Granger, and she knew he loved her, but she did know why he was afraid. There must be some reason. He would tell her when he was ready. He was already doing so much for everyone. She remembered the horror and fury on his face when Miss Granger was petrified. She had seen him talking to her every day of her petrification while holding her hand. She had also seen the glares she sent Mr. Potter because he did better than her. She does not like what she sees in Miss Granger's behavior and will have to talk to the teen before she breaks Harry completely. She was proud of Harry more than ever.
Dumbledore was feeling a lot of emotions. Anger at Dursleys. Elation at Harry's trust in him and being made godfather at the age of 103. Happy at seeing the way Harry was with his Daughter. Surprised at Harry's mature behavior related to prophecy, Dursleys.
And most importantly, pride, the way Harry had chastised him for not trusting Minerva after all she had done for him, and the way he was preparing for the war with the right reasons. He had seen how Harry had protected Miss Parkinson today; he had helped her when even her sister had glared at her. He had never felt that much pride for anyone he felt for Harry. He would make sure to meet Emily whenever he could and always make time for her. He could see Harry's nervousness at being a bad father, but he knew that Harry would be the best father a person could ask for; he had seen his love for Emily. He was very proud of Harry.
The next three months passed nicely, and Harry started studying with a new vigor after knowing the prophecy. Harry had started thinking of Evalinge as his little sister, and he had started teaching her magic to protect herself in case of an Attack. He only taught her DADA and a bit of Charms and Transfiguration so that she does not get bored in class, as DADA has a curse. Dumbledore and Minerva, as she told him to call her, became quite close to Emily.
Christmas has arrived, and he had sent gifts, so he was pretty happy with how things were going.
Dumbledore was in his office with Filius and Minerva, opening presents. They always did it together as they were close friends. When they were about to open the presents, they heard a knock and saw Harry enter.
"Hello Professor, Minerva, Albus," he said with a smile, shocking Flitwick at being on such terms with the Headmaster and deputy headmistress.
"I think we should tell him everything, Harry. He has been with us for 35 years now." Dumbledore said earnestly, and Harry nodded thoughtfully as he entered the memory in pensive for Filius to enter. Flitwick entered in the pensive, not knowing what to expect. He exited and sat down, processing everything, then looked at Harry with admiration and pride that he taught this youth.
"Would you all like to join me at Potter Manor? She will be happy to see you, Albus, Minerva, and also you, Professor," Harry asked pleadingly, and they nodded, Albus faster than others; Harry knew that Emily had him wrapped around her little finger like with Minerva and Harry.
They entered to see a smiling Emily waiting for her father, bouncing on her toes.
"Emily, is this how the heiress of House Potter introduces herself to new people?" Harry said disapprovingly. And she looked sheepish and then walked forward in front of Flitwick.
"Welcome to Potter Manor, Charms Master Flitwick. I am Emily Lily Potter, heiress of Most Ancient and Noble House of Potter, Daughter of the infamous Harry Potter," she said, bowing her head in was impressed
"You have taught her traditions," Flitwick said in admiration.
"No matter what Muggleborns think, Traditions are important for us to follow; we should respect our heritage and histories," he said, head bowing, to which Flitwick nodded with respect.
"Now that it is out of the way, where is my present, Albus?" Emily said sweetly, looking at her godfather with hands on her hips. Her godfather gave her the gift, a booklet of Muggle stories, followed by Filius, who gave her a sketchbook with unending pages, while Minerva gave her a scarf knitted by herself.
Then Emily turned to her father, who gave her a gift. She tore the paper apart but was shocked to be inside it.
"Is this for me?" she asked her father, tearing up.
"I know it is not perfect. I tried to do my best to make it, but" he said, shrugging regretfully when he was hugged by a brunette missile who was thanking him rapidly.
"It is perfect," she said, looking at the wand her father had crafted for her. She picked it up, waved it, and felt power flow through her body.
"It comprises ebony wood and my blood as a core. There will be some rules, Emily. You will not use it for more than 1 hour daily as your core has not stabilized until your 11th birthday. Please, Emil, do not overextend your lim; I will not be able to forgive myself if I have problems with magic and be sad because of that." Harry said, hugging his daughter, who nodded as she had seen her father doing everything he could for her. She knew he was a busy man; she had seen he was tired every day, but he always cared for her as much as he could, and she could not ask for better. When she yawned, he told her to go back to sleep, and she went to the room and rest of the Professors were looking at him with awe. He looked at them questioningly.
"You crafted a wand, Harry?" Dumbledore said in awe
"Well, we know what is happening out there, and I could see that she wanted to learn, so I created one for her based on her personality so she could learn a bit about DADA before coming to Hogwarts. This way, she can learn and not overextend herself. She can have a part of my parents and myself with her. The wood was made by combining their wands," he said, smiling at them and rubbing his neck nervously.
From then on, people kept on with their lives as per usual. Harry had returned from Christmas to see Evalinge retching blood on the floor on February 2 and had to rock her to sleep before taking her to the infirmary. He understood the infamous blood curse, which had no cures. But he was sure he could find one.
In the quidditch match, Malfoy's ilk acted like dementors, and Harry had felt bad at seeing Pansy there but had caught the snitch and left field showing it.
Evalinge had become his sister in all but blood, so he had made sure that the Blood curse had been taken care of and started working towards it during his potions session.
