Spider-Man: The King in Black – Part 5
The Last Stand of Bruce and Thor
A low, rolling rumble broke the silence over the city, a tremor that echoed through the bones of the hollowed-out Avengers Tower. Bruce and Thor stood together at the edge of a vast, broken window, the shattered glass reflecting the ominous, swirling darkness in the distance.
Thor lifted Mjolnir, his gaze hardening as he peered into the shadows gathering below. "He's here."
Bruce felt the rage rising within him, a boiling fury that clawed at his insides. He took a deep breath, steeling himself as his skin tinged green, muscles rippling in anticipation. "We can't hold back, Thor. If there's even a scrap of Peter left in there, he's buried deep. This… this isn't a rescue."
Thor nodded solemnly, his grip on Mjolnir tightening. "Aye. I know what must be done. We are all that stands between him and complete darkness."
Suddenly, the shadows outside began to twist and churn, as if alive. From the depths of the murk, a figure emerged—tall, imposing, wrapped in darkness so thick it seemed to devour the faint light of the streetlamps. The symbiote armor glistened, spikes and tendrils writhing like a living nightmare. This was not the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man; this was the King in Black, a twisted reflection of the hero they had once known.
A voice drifted up to them, sharp and cold as steel. "Thor. Bruce. I wondered how long it would take before I found you."
Thor's face was like granite. "Peter. You've changed, I see."
Peter's voice was a growl, laced with contempt. "Peter Parker is dead. What you see now… is the King in Black."
Bruce's eyes narrowed, his fists clenching as he let the Hulk take over, his skin shifting from flesh to green. His voice came out in a snarl. "We're not afraid of you, Parker. Not now, not ever."
With a snarl, Peter lunged upward, tendrils shooting from his body to anchor into the sides of the building, propelling him through the broken window like a black comet. Thor and Bruce barely had time to react before the symbiote-infused Peter crashed into them, the impact shaking the entire floor.
Bruce roared, his green form swelling with power as he caught Peter's attack head-on, their fists colliding in a thunderous clash. The force of it sent shockwaves through the room, cracking the walls and shattering what remained of the glass. Bruce grunted, staggering backward as he felt the raw, monstrous strength radiating from Peter.
"Is that all you've got, Hulk?" Peter sneered, his voice laced with Knull's venomous influence. With a flick of his wrist, tendrils snaked around Bruce's massive form, binding him tight.
Thor let out a war cry, swinging Mjolnir with all his might. The enchanted hammer crackled with lightning, illuminating the dark room with flashes of electric blue. "Stand down, Peter! I shall not let you wreak havoc upon what remains of this world!"
Peter turned, his eyes flashing with a sickly red glow as he met Thor's charge. He raised his arm, summoning a wall of shadows that rose like a tidal wave, absorbing the hammer's impact. Thor gritted his teeth, forcing Mjolnir through the darkness, but Peter's power was immense, unyielding.
"Is that all the 'Mighty Thor' can muster?" Peter taunted, pushing back with ease. The darkness around him thickened, growing colder, more oppressive. "I am more than you can handle, old man."
Thor roared, pushing through the shadow barrier, his hammer crackling as he swung it in a sweeping arc. The force of the blow connected with Peter's side, sending him crashing through the wall, shattering concrete and steel.
But Peter was far from defeated. Before Thor could recover, he was already back on his feet, tendrils lashing out like whips. One of them struck Thor square in the chest, knocking him back with bone-jarring force. The god of thunder crashed into the floor, the impact cracking the concrete beneath him.
Peter moved like a shadow given life, his form twisting and morphing as he closed the distance. His hand shot out, slamming down on Thor's chest, pinning him in place. The darkness oozed from Peter's fingers, seeping into Thor's armor, wrapping around his limbs, constricting.
"Is this what you wanted, Thor?" Peter hissed, his face inches from the god's. "To play hero in a world that doesn't need one?"
Thor struggled, the darkness burning against his skin like acid. But his eyes remained defiant. "Aye. If it means standing against tyrants like you, I will play the hero until my last breath."
With a furious roar, Thor unleashed a bolt of lightning from his hands, the electric current surging through Peter's body. The symbiote armor crackled and writhed, shrieking in pain, but Peter merely grinned, enduring it.
"You think a little thunder is enough to stop me?" Peter sneered, his grip tightening. "You're out of your league."
Before Peter could land another blow, a monstrous green hand seized his shoulder and yanked him backward. The Hulk, eyes blazing with fury, roared as he slammed Peter into the ground, each punch reverberating through the floor.
"I'm not done with you, Parker!" Bruce growled, his fists pounding into Peter with relentless force. "You think you're strong? You think you can handle the Hulk?"
Peter's laughter was low and cold as he wrapped his tendrils around Bruce's arms, restraining him. "Oh, Hulk, I'm counting on it." He unleashed a surge of black energy that erupted from his body, sending Bruce flying across the room, crashing through a wall and leaving a massive dent in the concrete.
As Bruce struggled to his feet, Peter advanced, his steps slow and deliberate. "You're nothing to me, Bruce. You're a relic. A broken machine."
But Bruce grinned, blood trickling from his lip. "Guess I'll just have to show you what this 'broken machine' can do."
With a roar, he launched himself forward, the Hulk's fury powering his every move. His fists crashed into Peter's chest, sending him back, but Peter absorbed each blow, his form rippling like liquid darkness.
Thor, now recovered, rejoined the fray, his hammer spinning with renewed vigor. He struck from above, aiming for Peter's head, while Bruce hit him from below, their combined assault relentless.
But Peter met them blow for blow, his power fueled by Knull's influence. Shadows coiled and struck, whipping at Thor and Bruce, tearing at their skin, their armor. For every hit they landed, Peter gave it back tenfold, his strength unrelenting.
With one final, powerful strike, Peter slammed his fists down, a surge of dark energy exploding from him and sending both Thor and Bruce flying across the room. They crashed into the wall, bruised, bloodied, but not defeated.
Peter stood over them, a towering figure of darkness, his eyes gleaming with twisted triumph. "You think you can beat me? I am the King in Black. I am unstoppable."
Thor staggered to his feet, gripping Mjolnir with trembling hands. "You may be powerful, Peter… but even the greatest kings fall."
Bruce rose beside him, breathing hard, his eyes blazing with anger. "You're right about one thing, Parker. We can't beat you alone. But we're not alone."
In a flash, Thor raised Mjolnir to the sky, calling down a bolt of lightning so powerful it shattered the darkness around them. Bruce let out a bellowing roar, channeling every ounce of rage within him.
Together, they launched one final, desperate assault, their combined might colliding with the darkness.
And for a brief moment, the shadows parted, the light breaking through.
