Lana and Lola leaped into the clock. The world around them swirled, transforming into a kaleidoscope of gears, ticking mechanisms, and swinging pendulums.
When they landed, they found themselves inside a massive clockwork tower. The rhythmic ticking of gears surrounded them, and every part of the environment seemed alive with motion. From towering cogs to spinning platforms and swinging pendulums, the level felt both alive and treacherous.
"This place is wild!" Lola exclaimed, her eyes wide as she scanned the massive structure stretching far above them.
Lana smirked. "No time to waste. Let's split up and cover more ground. I'll head up first and take care of that cage I saw on the Power Star detector."
"Alright," Lola replied, adjusting her grip on her gloves. "I'll head for the pendulums."
With a quick nod, the twins darted off in separate directions, each ready to face the challenges ahead.
Lana sprinted forward, her boots clanking against the metal gears beneath her. She leaped onto a slowly spinning platform, carefully timing her jump to avoid being thrown off balance. The towering mechanism of the clock surrounded her as she ascended higher and higher, her focus unwavering.
As she approached the first large hand of the clock, Lana had to pause and calculate its sweeping movements. It swung slowly, but its sheer size made it a tricky obstacle. She crouched, then launched herself onto the hand, using it as a moving platform to carry her toward the next section.
"Easy does it," she muttered under her breath, her muscles tense. Once the hand brought her close enough, she jumped again, landing on a ledge where several spinning platforms awaited. Each platform rotated at a different speed, requiring careful timing to cross.
With a deep breath, Lana stepped onto the first platform, balancing expertly as it carried her in a full circle. She used the momentum to leap to the next one, then the next, until she reached solid ground again. Ahead of her was a conveyor belt leading into a small cage.
The Power Star glimmered brightly inside, tantalizingly close. Lana dashed forward, jumping off the end of the conveyor belt and into the cage. Her hands closed around the star, and its familiar warmth enveloped her.
"Got it!" she said with a grin, feeling the rush of accomplishment. But she wasn't done yet—there were still more stars to collect.
Meanwhile, Lola had taken a different route. She climbed a series of small, moving platforms, each one jerking unpredictably as it carried her upward. The air grew colder as she ascended, and the ticking of the clock seemed louder.
At last, she reached a tall pole with an Amp—a crackling, electrified orb—circling it. Lola paused to study its movement, waiting for the right moment. When the Amp zipped past her starting position, she leaped onto the pole and began climbing rapidly. The Amp's electric hum grew louder as it approached again, but Lola was faster. She swung herself off the pole just in time, landing on a wide platform.
This platform was patrolled by a Heave-Ho, a large, mechanical creature with flat hands designed to shove anything off its territory. Lola crouched low, studying its movements, and darted past when its back was turned. The machine let out a frustrated whirring noise as she dashed across the platform, avoiding its wide sweeps.
Ahead of her was a spinning platform leading to two swinging pendulums. The pendulums swayed rhythmically, their golden arms cutting through the air with precision. Lola gritted her teeth. She would have to time this perfectly.
She crouched, watching the rhythm of the pendulums. When the nearest one swung forward, she jumped onto the platform between them, landing lightly and holding her position. As the second pendulum swung away, she leaped again, landing safely on the far side.
There, nestled on a small ledge, was another Power Star. Lola grinned as she snatched it up, the golden light surrounding her.
Back to Lana who continued her climb, knowing there was still more work to do. She made her way back to the main clockwork mechanisms and ascended higher, her movements quick and precise. The towering structure of the clock seemed endless, but Lana wasn't deterred.
She soon reached another pole, this one guarded by an Amp circling even faster than the last. Lana waited, watching its erratic movement, and jumped onto the pole as soon as it zipped away. She climbed quickly, her muscles straining, and swung off the pole onto a moving platform above.
This section was more intricate than the last. The platforms shifted in and out of the walls, creating a precarious path upward. Lana stepped carefully, timing her movements with the platforms' shifts. At the top of this section, she found herself on the roof of a large mesh cage.
The Power Star glimmered enticingly inside the cage, but it wasn't an easy grab. To reach it, Lana would need to cross three Moving Bars that extended and retracted from the wall like pistons. She crouched, observing their rhythm.
"Okay, here we go," she said, steeling herself.
She jumped onto the first bar as it extended, landing in the center and balancing carefully. As it began retracting, she leaped to the second bar, barely catching the edge. She pulled herself up quickly, knowing she had little time before it, too, retracted. The final bar was the trickiest, its timing slightly offset from the others. Lana waited, her heart pounding, and leaped with all her strength.
She landed on the final bar and sprang into the cage just as the bar began retracting. Her fingers closed around the Power Star, and she let out a breath of relief as its warm light enveloped her.
Meanwhile Lola squinted up at the rotating bars scaling the wall ahead of her. Each bar spun in a slow but erratic rhythm, and the red gleam of coins glinted between the platforms. The entire structure of the clock tower seemed to hum with life as its mechanisms shifted constantly.
"Alright, tricky, but I've got this," Lola muttered to herself, psyching herself up.
The first Red Coin sat just above the second bar. Lola waited for the bar to rotate into position, then jumped lightly, landing on its edge. It wobbled slightly under her weight, but she balanced herself expertly, reached for the coin, and snagged it.
The next few coins required precision timing and quick reflexes. Lola navigated the spinning platforms, her movements swift and deliberate. Each jump brought her closer to the top, where the final coins awaited. The bars spun unpredictably, forcing her to pause more than once to reassess her approach.
When she reached the last Red Coin, positioned precariously on a narrow ledge, she took a deep breath and leaped. Her fingers brushed the coin as she grabbed it midair and landed smoothly. The sound of the Star Marker activating filled the air, and a glowing Power Star appeared in the center of the spinning platform cluster.
"Gotcha," Lola said triumphantly as she dashed toward the star. She jumped one final time, feeling the familiar warmth of its light wrap around her.
Meanwhile Lana moved cautiously along the large pendulum, her footing steady as it swung back and forth. Beyond the pendulum, a conveyor belt moved continuously, leading to a square flipping block that rotated in all directions.
She jumped onto the belt and ran against its pull, timing her leap to land squarely on the flipping block. As it began to rotate, Lana sprinted forward, launching herself onto another pendulum just in time.
"Almost there," she murmured, eyeing the next section.
After the pendulum, she ascended a ramp leading to three square flipping blocks stacked closely together. She timed her movements perfectly, scaling them one by one until she reached a platform with a large clock hand swinging in a wide arc.
The clock hand swept past her, its surface smooth but slippery. Lana waited for the right moment, then sprinted forward, using its motion to propel herself upward onto a set of hexagonal flipping blocks. These blocks led to a cage, and Lana climbed onto it, her hands steady on the metal bars.
At the top of the cage, a small lift waited for her. She stepped onto it, letting it carry her upward as the mechanisms around her whirred. Above the lift was a pole with another Amp circling it.
"Great, another one of these guys," she muttered, watching its erratic movements.
Timing her approach carefully, Lana climbed the pole quickly, dodging the Amp's electric charge as it zipped past. At the top, the path split. She chose the lift on the left, which ascended even farther up the clock tower.
Beyond the lift, a series of flipping blocks created a staircase leading upward. Lana scaled them quickly, her focus unbroken as she reached a bending platform with Moving Bars placed under a cage.
Carefully, she crossed the bars, timing her jumps with their retracting movements. Past the cage were two conveyor belts that led to a long bending platform, broken up by rotating bars and triangular flipping blocks. Each obstacle required precision, but Lana navigated them with ease, her movements fluid and confident.
At the top of the platform, another large clock hand awaited, moving in slow, sweeping arcs. Lana jumped onto it, using it to reach the next area.
There, she found a Thwomp pounding up and down. Its movements shook the ground beneath her, but Lana wasn't intimidated. She waited for it to lower, then climbed onto its back as it rose, using it as an elevator to reach the highest platform.
On that platform, another Power Star gleamed brightly. Lana grinned as she reached for it, the familiar warmth of success washing over her.
"Another one in the bag," she said, her voice echoing faintly in the clock's hollow interior.
"Another one in the bag. Now, time to find Lola," Lana said as the warm glow of the Power Star faded from her hand. She dusted herself off and began to climb down the intricate workings of the clock tower.
The clock was still moving, its inner mechanisms ticking steadily as gears turned and pendulums swung. Lana moved quickly but carefully, retracing her steps across conveyor belts and flipping platforms until she found herself back near the base. Lola was perched on a ledge, idly swinging her legs as she waited.
"Took you long enough," Lola teased as Lana approached.
"Hey, you try dealing with flipping platforms and swinging bars back to back," Lana shot back with a grin.
"Well, good news—I grabbed my star too," Lola said, holding it up proudly. "I think we're done here."
"Then let's get out of this place before the ticking drives me crazy," Lana said.
The twins held up their Power Stars, letting the light envelop them. A moment later, they were standing once more on the third floor of the castle.
The twins were greeted by the sound of footsteps echoing from the staircase. They turned to see Angus ascending, a wide grin on his face and a slight sheen of sweat on his forehead.
"There you two are!" Angus called out, waving a small sack triumphantly. "I've got some news for you!"
"What's in the bag?" Lola asked, tilting her head curiously.
Angus dropped the sack on the ground, and five glowing Power Stars spilled out, their light casting golden reflections on the walls.
"While you two were busy, I managed to round up these beauties," he said, puffing his chest out proudly.
"Five Power Stars?" Lana said, her eyes widening. "How?"
"Well," Angus said, scratching the back of his neck, "two of them were just lying around—one in a hidden alcove in the courtyard and another in a secret passage near the kitchen."
"And the other three?" Lola prompted.
Angus let out a dramatic sigh. "The last three were from catching those pesky yellow rabbits. Let me tell you, chasing them through the hallways was no picnic. They're fast!"
Lola burst into laughter. "I would've paid to see that."
"I almost lost my boots running after them," Angus grumbled, but his grin betrayed his pride. "Still, it was worth it. Now we're even closer to our goal."
"Thanks, Angus," Lana said, patting him on the shoulder. "You've been a huge help."
"Yeah," Lola agreed. "We couldn't have done this without you."
Angus waved them off. "You two are the real stars. Now, what's next on the agenda?"
Lana and Lola turned their attention to the colorful archway leading to Rainbow Ride. Above it, a high platform jutted out with a small hole in the floor marking the entrance to the course.
"Well," Lana said, adjusting her gloves, "I guess it's time to see what Rainbow Ride has in store for us."
"Looks like we'll need a good jump to get up there," Lola noted, eyeing the platform.
The twins stepped back, gauging their approach. Lana bent her knees, preparing to jump, and Lola followed suit.
They took off running. With a powerful leap, Lana reached the edge of the platform first, pulling herself up with ease. She extended a hand to Lola, who grasped it and swung herself up beside her sister.
The twins crouched by the hole, peering into the shimmering light within.
"Any guesses on what's down there?" Lola asked.
"Knowing this castle, it's probably nothing straightforward," Lana said with a smirk. "But we'll handle it like always."
With a deep breath, the twins jumped into the hole, letting the light pull them into the unknown.
