Two months in the NICU went by faster than Kurt and Diane expected, but they were both relieved when they were told they could bring their now baby girl home.

"Kurt," Diane said, "the car seat is in, right?"

"Yes, dear," Kurt said with a little sarcasm in his voice.

Diane appeared from the closet completely dressed and ready to go.

"Why aren't you ready? They said we could get her at 9:30, and I want to be there at 9:30."

"Hey, it's 7 am. I think I have some time."

Diane rolled her eyes. "I'm just ready for her to be home. I'll sleep better at night when she's here with us."

Kurt got up from the bed and walked over to his wife. "I agree. It has been a hard two months leaving her in the hospital and coming home without her, but today that stops."

Kurt leaned in and kissed his wife.

"Please get ready," she pleaded one last time.

"Diane, are you ready?" Kurt said at 9:00.

Diane was in the office going over some briefs for work. She knew she needed something to distract her as she waited for time to pass."

"It is 9 already," she said with excitement in her voice.

"Yes," Kurt said as he entered the office with her purse in one hand and a diaper bag in the other. "Let's go get our daughter."

The 15-minute drive from their house to the hospital seemed to go by so slowly.

When they reached the hospital, they followed the same path they had become accustomed to over the past two months."

"Hi Kurt, Hi Diane," Krista said with excitement once they reached the NICU.

"Krista, you are here!" Diane said as she wrapped her arms around her former nurse. "Yes, today is the day. How did you know?"

"I have connections," she laughed.

Diane and Kurt entered the NICU for the last time. The nurses had Jennings ready to go in her little outfit that seemed to still swallow her up. She weighed 5 pounds and was still small. Diane picked up her daughter, who was still temporarily attached to oxygen. They filled out paperwork, and before they knew it, they were leaving the NICU.

Krista was still waiting outside the NICU doors. "Oh, she is so perfect. I am sure they went over it with you, but do you have any questions about anything?"

"I don't think so, but thank you for asking. Would you like to hold her?" Diane asked as she carefully started passing the baby over.

"Yes, I would. She has changed so much. You two are very blessed." The nurse passed the baby back to Diane before giving them one last encouraging goodbye.

Kurt looked in the rearview mirror and saw his wife staring at their now sleeping daughter.

"How is she doing, Mom?"

Diane looked up, "I am going to have to get used to being called mom. I am someone's mother." She chuckled in amazement before she replied, "She is a perfect, sleepy little girl."

When they reached the house, Kurt got out of the car and opened the door behind his seat as his wife came around the other side of the car. Diane carefully took her out of the car seat and carried their still sleeping daughter into the house while Kurt grabbed the additional oxygen tank and all the other things the hospital sent them home with. When he finally got into the house, he found his wife in their bed with the daughter lying on her chest.

"Come join us, Cowboy," Diane said quietly.

Kurt joined them on the bed and just looked at his wife and daughter, unable to believe this was his life.

"Di, I love you and I love this," he said as he gently rubbed his daughter's small hand.

"I know, I never thought we would get this far, and here we all are," Diane said with a smile on her face. "I love..."

"I love you too," Kurt responded.
