My circle of friends was small. My mother before she got sick insisted that I make friends, she didn't like how like my father I could be left at my own devices for long periods of time.
Through one of my required classes of fencing, I met Kagami Tsurugi at my first competition. She was a no nonsense sort of person, having been raised strictly by her widowed mother. We got along swimmingly and she was allowed to associate with me, as long as I didn't distract her from her competitions.
She introduced me to manga the first time I went over to her house and I introduced her to a couple of tricks for dealing with controlling parents.
Chloé Bourgeois was an associate at most. She didn't like how I'd call her out on her selfish and bullying behavior towards those she deemed lower than herself. And I wouldn't tolerate her whining any longer than I had to. Still Chloe would come see me whenever she wasn't up to something else, "Our parents are best friends that means we should too."
I remember shaking my head and folding my arms, "Even if we become friends, I won't stop calling you out when you are rude." Chloe made an exaggerated sigh, before checking her manicure and then looking at me. "We should go shopping." She walked past me into my room, walking straight to my grand closet swinging open the doors with a bang. A gasp coming from her mouth before she looked at me with pity, "You have a paldry lack of color. Absolutely ridiculous! We must fix this immediately!" Yes, Chloe and I were an odd pair.
I was an online friend with Marinette having helped her set up her site for her designs and also became her first investor in her future business. She knew me as one of my online aliases, LadyRuse, that I only used for her (a name that I thought could make an excellent hero name). She also knew what I looked like as I video chatted with her often (only thing hiding my identity, a thin mask over my eyes). It wouldn't be that hard for her to figure out who I was after all I'd already made public appearance beside my father at a couple benefits that had media coverage. But she never mentioned my real identity so I never brought it up.
Few friends meant they were manageable for now. I had acquaintances through my gray hat hacker side but none that knew my face (I made sure of that). Through my main adult identity I'd made a fair share of money. One of the perks of having spent my first 100k had been a list of companies to invest in for the next 20 years. Something I noticed was the money spent only registered in the system if it was money I made or came in ownership of. Allowance money from my family didn't count.
My next goal was to get on the radar of Wang Fu, the current guardian of the Miraculous. I wasn't sure how much longer my father would sit back and do nothing. I wasn't sure when he'd decide my 'magic' kisses for mother weren't enough to wake her. I wasn't sure when in this timeline he'd become Hawkmoth. I needed to be prepared to take up a miraculous to help Ladybug at any time.
So with money I'd earned (and stolen from some big bads) I purchased the whole building where Wang Fu lived and had his massage business. Then I made a personal delivery of the deeds, with only a face mask, I delivered them to his mailbox. It wasn't a too unusual thing for me to do in Paris, whenever I heard someone needed a place, needed help with their mortgage, ect; I'd research the person and if they had a clean slate I'd gift them with a home. Due to Paris prices I had already gotten my first 5mil mission completed long before I purchased Wang Fu's apartment building (I was currently at 60,010 points).
I checked the system store, not finding anything that would help my mother at least until I reached Bonds/Accompaniment (a section of the store that only rotated the goods after a purchase in the section).
The Kwami of Healing was available for 1,00,000 points. I would have to start being creative to get more points, I didn't think I could earn fast enough to help my mother.
I had made a program that searched for big bad off-shore accounts. Through a maze of redirections I finally got money from several of these bad corporations and bad people. Once in my possession it only stayed briefly before it was transferred to numerous charities for the victims of the big bads.
Two dings ran right after each other.
[Mission Accomplished: First 10,000,000 spent, reward: 100,000 points]
[Mission Accomplished: First 15,000,000 spent, reward: 150,000]
310,010 points in total. I was getting closer to earning enough points for my goal. But I'd have to wait awhile before earning more by such methods.
I wondered if this system would have other side quest other than the Acts of the original Adrien's Life.
When Émilie Agreste eyes fluttered open on my birthday, my father and I were beside her.
Her voice was parched and it cracked as she spoke her gaze upon her husband, "Moi mari," she turned her head to me, "moi chouchou." She hadn't called me her little cabbage since I was a baby, and then she closed her eyes and she succumbed to a deep coma again. My father's shoulders slumped and he bent over my mother's frame a dry, choked sob coming from him. My heart clenched in my chest as I heard him cry.
A ding rang.
[Side quest completed: Help Émilie Agreste awaken. She is now on her healing journey. Reward: 100,000 points]
A year passed with me following after my father learning everything I could about his company. Going to benefits, auctions and galas.
But I could see as each month passed that my mother didn't wake up again, it was waring him down. I'd catch him fiddling with a purple brooch at his neck, and I knew I was running out of time.
