They weren't even bothering to pretend to eat instead they huddled and spoke in low voices to each other.
Edward looked to Alice, "What is she?"
Alice shook her head, "She's human."
Emmett grumbled, "What did I miss out on now?"
Edward glanced from Alice to Jasper then Emmett, "The new girl. Isa Swan, she.." his brow furrowed
Jasper leaned forward, "I'm not overwhelmed by everyone's emotions around her. I'm calm."
"She smells like my mother's brownies with apricot jam." Edward confessed, "I'd forgotten that memory until..."
Emmett excitedly turned to Jasper, "What does she smell like to you?"
"My little sister's favorite treat was apple streusel." Jasper looked off into the distance a bittersweet smile on his lips.
"So she smells like food to everyone?"
Everyone turned their attention to Rosalie who had oddly not said anything. She stared down at the apple on her plate.
A whisper so quiet only their ears could hear, "Baby powder." Rosalie looked up her eyes misty, "She looks so fragile, she could break so easily. I felt like..."
Emmett enveloped Rosalie into a hug, kissing the top of her head.
"I felt at peace as if she was the missing piece. I..." Rosalie crushed the apple in her hand, "I don't like not being able to see her. I need to know she's safe... What is she?" Rosalie stared at Alice who shrugged before she turned her gaze to Edward.
"I can't read her mind. When I try it's like..." Edward stared down at the table, "I'm transported to a pretty meadow in her mind. I wade through the grasses and look at flowers but I can only hear a whisper like the wind." He shook his head, "I've never seen a mind like hers before."
Alice spoke up, "Each time you each met her I had a new vision. She's someone we'll all want to protect. She's something special." She let out a laugh, "She wouldn't like being called that though."
"And our secret?" Rosalie's eyes narrowed.
"She either doesn't know or she won't tell."
