He was a wolf.
Well according to Billy Black he was a shapeshifter.
A shapeshifter with the duty to protect the tribe from rogue 'cold ones'. Billy told him how he was surprised he hadn't shifted sooner, as the 'cold ones' they had a treaty with had moved back to the area.
It was a duty he took solemnly and yet he couldn't help but think of all the times he wished he could protect his people better. The times he felt like he could be doing more for them. Now he had that chance.
He would be joined by others. He would have a pack connected in mind as they protected their land.
As he lay to sleep that night, he thought of all the preparations he'd need to make. The research into the legends. A true Alpha, Billy had said, would have a dream the night he changed of his perfect match, his Alpha female.
He chuckled, he didn't believe in soulmates.
As his eyes grew heavy and he drifted off into a deep sleep, he continued to think this until he slipped into a dream.
He was in a meadow full of wild flowers.
There was a whisper on the breeze, 'Find me.'
He wandered the meadow until he came upon a creek. His reflection showcasing his black wolf, gold eyes shimmering so different from his human dark amber.
'Hello...' the rest of the sentence was garbled, he thought the sweet voice said his name but he wasn't sure.
He turned and before him was a warrior. A queen.
She stood tall her head tilted regally.
'My king, you visit me at last.'
Her gray blue eyes piercing.
His gaze fell to her lips, full and inviting.
'I am no king.'
She giggled and smiled at him, her eyes creasing looking like crescent moons.
'And I am no queen. I was once a warrior, you got that right.'
'Who are you?'
'You'll meet me soon enough.' Her eyes suddenly narrowed, 'There's trouble afoot. Your people need you. Now wake up!'
He jolted awake with the ringing of his phone making him blink the sleep and last remnants of the dream away.
He answered the phone, his voice gruff from sleep.
"Uley speaking."
"Jared Cameron just shifted."
