They were at the treaty line when the words they'd dreaded to hear were spoken.
"Isabelle Swan and Angella Webber are now under our protection."
A right only given if they were imprints.
Edward couldn't help but think about the other revelation. The thoughts of the wolves all pointed to Isa having the same effect that she had on them. A calming presence even to the most angry of the pack, her scent was associated to family. Except for the Alpha, her scent to him was all things he desired.
Edward nearly growled when he heard the Alpha's thoughts toward Isa. She wasn't the Alpha's or the packs, she was meant to be the Cullen's.
Their's to protect. Their's to love.
But the wolves thoughts only confirmed something in his mind.
Whatever ability Isa had it only worked on the supernatural.
The scent dictated what place she could fill. For the most of them it was a feeling of family, hope for Carlisle and Esme would no doubt also have a familial connection.
For the dangerous and most volatile (like James, who died with taunts on his lips) she became something they needed. Something they needed to possess.
"Have you found the red-headed vampire?" He spoke, deep within him he knew they couldn't let Victoria end up a loose-end.
The wolves shook their heads, before the Alpha spoke, "She's been sighted several times but we have yet to kill her."
Carlisle spoke assured even without Edward's confirmation, "Your imprint will always be in danger as long as Victoria is alive."
The hot headed one shouted, "If you hadn't let her escape the first time we wouldn't have this problem!"
"Jasper and Edward did the best they could, but when Isa was found she was in great pain. She needed my attention as soon as possible." Carlisle spoke calmly.
Rosalie nearly hissed, "We tore James apart as soon as he was caught."
The Alpha leaned forward his eyes narrowed, "There was another vampire, you let him go."
Laurent must have passed through their lands on his way to Alaska.
"He was the one who helped us find Isa. When she became ill, he came to us."
Edward couldn't help but think if they would have ever found her without his help. James and Victoria would have moved Isa, keeping her away from them and everyone she loved.
Laurent's thoughts had been confusing. He saw something in Isa that Edward often would dismiss, an ancientness. It was more than her being an old soul. Her eyes sparkled with stories untold and he'd had a glimpse into her mind as she was in pain. Flashes of memories that didn't make sense, other times she had been in pain, going around and around in her mind like a carousel.
There was something else beyond the strange changes to her body during the time she was solely under Carlisle's care. There was something beneath the surface of Isa Swan and Edward was determined to figure it out.
