"Stupid Mabel with her stupid zombie boyfriend…" I muttered, stomping through the forest.
I pulled the journal I'd found in the woods out of my jacket pocket, turning it over in my hands. "Am I just overreacting?" I asked myself, even though I didn't really expect an answer.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice the thing in my path until I tripped over it. The journal and I hit the ground hard. "Stupid rock… interrupting my stupid tantrum," I grumbled, sitting up and brushing off my jacket.
I reached for the journal and stuffed it back in my vest pocket before glancing at what had tripped me. Only… it wasn't a rock. Curious, I leaned closer and started brushing the dirt away. The edge of something metallic caught the light. It wasn't long before I realized it was the corner of a metal cube. No, not just a cube—more like a box. A metal box, buried in the woods. I dug around it until I could lift the whole thing free and turn it over in my hands. It was heavy and solid, with scratches and marks all over its surface. After a moment, I spotted a latch. My fingers fumbled for a second, but I finally got it open. The sound of metal scraping against metal echoed through the trees, and inside the box, there it was. A book. It was identical to the one I'd found earlier, except this one had a large "2" on the cover instead of a "3." My hand trembled as I reached for it. There was something else in the box, too. A necklace, carefully wrapped around the book. It was a black thin rope necklace with a golden charm on the end, a green stone in it.
"As if Gravity Falls needed to be weirder…" I muttered, holding up the necklace and inspecting the stone. It glowed faintly in the dim light of the forest, almost like it was alive. My heart raced as I wondered what kind of strange power it might have. Could this be related to the journal? And why was it hidden out here in the woods?
I snapped the box shut, the metallic clang echoing in the silence. My curiosity burned, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was about to stumble onto something far bigger than I'd bargained for. And knowing Gravity Falls, that could only mean one thing: Trouble.
With the old and the new journals in hand, I started to make make my way back toward the Mystery Shack, but I was stopped by a scream deeper In the woods. I immediately recognized it as Mabel and bolted toward the noise.
