Chap 22

Notes: Two updates in one week... wow... haha. After years of this fanfic being here unfinished I think it's well deserved for all of you to have as much updates as I can possibly give right now. Next chapter will be here soon! (I didn't realize that this chapter was so small)

Meredith's recovery has been slow but she didn't mind one bit, that meant that Arizona would still visit her to see how she was doing. She was thankful for everyone wanting to help her but truth to be told she cares much more if the older blonde will be there with her even for a few minutes a day.

Nobody has told her yet, no one wanted to break the news to Meredith, especially Amelia or Maggie, and even if the others didn't know Meredith's love for Arizona the staff knew something was off about their so-called friendship.

Meredith started to notice somethings were off, she was soon going to be release from the hospital and sent home for at least a few weeks. Amelia seemed to be walking on egg shells with her and it should have been the other way around, like when she was more injured and unconscious.

She didn't have the casket anymore, her face wasn't as purple as before, the cuts she had in the beginning had disappear completely so she didn't know what could be.

April finds Arizona on the hall of Pediatrics "Are you excited?" she asks.

"Yes. It will be fun to work with Nicole again and DC is not too far from New York so I can visit Sofia. I also spoke with Callie recently and things are a little better between us"

"That's good. How is Alex doing?" They both know the answer but Alex was way more open with Arizona. Also, he will be alone soon without either of them so is understandable why he has been on edge.

"He is…. Okay" The blonde knows he isn't but hopes he will soon.

"Do you have your bags ready?"

"Yes, I have everything. You?"

"Same. I'm excited to go to San Diego for a while and help. Get some fresh air from here"

"Yes, that will be good" Arizona says smiling.

A few hours later Meredith is finally release from the hospital. She couldn't be happier but her happiness didn't last long. On the main floor April was saying her goodbyes to some doctors she worked with, she also had a few boxes on the counter to take to her car. Amelia who was beside Meredith knew that she should have had told her that both Arizona and April were leaving today but she didn't had the courage to do so before.

"April is leaving today?" Meredith asks surprise. She didn't knew the red hair would leave so soon.

"Hm… Arizona is leaving as well." Amelia says slowly so her sister can catch up. "Today as well" Meredith opens her mouth, while still gathering all her thoughts but nothing comes out. "I'm sorry Mer. I wanted to tell you but you were so happy and recovering so fast that I didn't wanted to jeopardize that"

Before Meredith has the opportunity to say something the elevator doors open and the older blonde followed by Alex, Bailey and Richard steps out of the metal box. A metal box with so many good and bad memories. Arizona smiles at April when she sees her, Richard takes April box that was on the counter and walks out of the hospital, probably towards his car since he's taking the girls to the airport.

Alex eyes are red, probably from crying. He seems tired as well but unfortunately, he is making the night shift and can't take his sisters to the airport. Bailey hugs Arizona while Alex follows right after Owen hugs April, Jo hugs the blonde after the chief and Alex comes next. He gives her one of his bear hugs and squeezes her until a small squeak sound comes out of Arizona's mouth. She rests her head on his shoulder letting the tears roll down her cheeks.

Amelia, Maggie and Meredith get closer to the scene and follow the rest of the group, they hug the red hair and the blonde. Meredith is the last to hug the Arizona, she tries to keep her tears from falling but nothing can stop it. The older blonde whispers 'I'm sorry I didn't tell you before' without any explanation coming right after.

Alex pager starts beeping and the ER doors open with an injured kid, Arizona smiles at him but before he goes she stops him. "Here, I want to give this to you" The blonde says as she takes a scrubs cap from her bag. "You will take mine and I will take yours and when I come back we will exchange it back again! What do you say?" He gives her his scrubs cap and she puts it in her bag, she takes hers and positions Alex head a little forward so she can put her scrubs cap on his head. She lifts his head once again and looks into his shiny eyes, tears keep falling from his eyes but he doesn't wipe them off. She puts both of her hands on each cheek and smiles at him.

"Take good care of Jo, just like we talked. I'm very proud of you and I know that even if I'm not here you will do a great job taking care of my patients." He smiles back and nods.

"Have a safe flight" he prays. She smiles knowing the double meaning of his sentence.

She wipes his tears away. "It's a beautiful day to save a life" She says while taking her hands away from him, finally leaving him to go save the kid who had just entered the ER. He nods and runs towards the elevator, Arizona turns around as soon as the elevator doors close. She turns towards April and leaks their arms together "Ready?" the red head nods and after a final verbally goodbye they walk away from the group and leave the hospital.
