So, Surtr evolved into Magmar.
"Huh." I muttered.
Since I had not expected this to happen until a bit more time had passed. Certainly more than two weeks after I caught him.
Though that's not to say I'm upset. Far from it actually.
Becausethis is certainly a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
I just really didn't expect it to happen this soon.
The only reason I can think of that it did is that the training Surtr received from his last deadbeat trainer, combined with the training I have been putting him through, pushed him over the edge and made the result I am seeing before me right now possible.
"Magmar." Surtr said. Continuing to flex his new arms. He even brought his left one up to his mouth and kissed it.
Seeing this I couldn't help but put a wry smile on my face.
"Dratini. Dra." Spyro spoke. Slithering around and taking in all of Surtr's new body.
"Surtr has evolved." I spoke. Drawing Spyro's attention to him. "He is now a Magmar."
"Dratini. Tini?" He questioned.
"I can't say for sure when you'll evolve buddy. Sorry." I told him.
Because that's the thing with dragon-type Pokemon. Although they are powerful their growth rate is slow as hell generally. Especially with the more powerful ones like the pseudo-legendaries like Spyro here. Though on the flip side when said Pokemon do reach their peak they become absolute monsters.
And just thinking about Spyro becoming like that one day brings a smile to my face.
"Dra." Spyro sighed.
"Hey, none of that." I told him. "Sure Surtr may have evolved first, but I'm pretty sure that's because he had some prior training. And it doesn't mean you're working any less hard than he is. You're doing just fine. So chin up."
"Magmar." Surtr said. Having stopped his flexing and started looking directly at Spyro. A smile on his face.
"Dratini." Spyro said. Looking between the two of us. He then nodded his head.
"Good." I told him. "Now before Surtr's evolution interrupted us, I was bringing out the newest member of our team." I said. I then finished what I started and released Artemis.
Who went wide out when she saw Surtr's new appearance.
But after I explained things to her she calmed down. She also got a fire in her eyes that didn't go unnoticed by me.
Making me realize once more that she is a keeper.
After the quick re-cap occurred the four of us started making our way back to Viridian City.
Because now with all the excitement over it was time for some good old rest and relaxation.
Even if we were going straight back to the grind tomorrow.
Since it don't stop.
The following day my Pokemon and I did exactly what I said we would. We got back to the grind.
But only after all of them, especially Artemis, were examined by Nurse Joy and Chansey. Since a healthy Pokemon is the best Pokemon in my opinion.
Once they were all given a clean bill of health I eased Artemis into our training regimine. While also drawing up nearly an entire new one for Surtr do to his evolution.
I also began drawing up a few training ideas for my other Pokemon for when they evolved. Since unless it requires an item, like an evolution, I can't control when my Pokemon will evolve. Meaning I need to be prepared. Suddenly getting a Magmar taught me that.
But on the bright side I won't have to worry about Surtr unexpectedly evolving again. No, now he'll have to wait for me to get my hands on a Magmarizer for it to happen again. Which might take a long, long time. Considering when I looked up the price for one of those of things I nearly had a heart attack with how many zeroes there are next to it.
Showcasing that even in the world of Pokemon, money is necessary to make moves.
Ah well. Nothing I can do but keep pressing forward.
Which is what I did after spending just another week in Viridian City.
When it came to an end I was back on the road. Quickly making my way through the Viridian Forest. Which unlike Ash in the anime took me only six hours to do. After which I was at the doorsteps to Pewter City.
Where once I arrived I headed for the local Pokemon centre and pulled the same thing I did in Viridian. Which was stay at the center, train my Pokemon, and battle any challenger who accepted my open offer and padded my bank account.
A practice I did for two weeks straight before setting out on the road once more.
But not before purchasing some essential supplies for my next adventure.
Standing outside one of the numerous entrance into Mt. Moon I checked once again to make sure I had all the supplies and equipment I purchased in Pewter City inside of it.
"Flashlight, check. Extra batteries for said flashlight, check. Warm clothes, check. Matches, check. A month supply of both people and Pokemon food, check." I muttered to myself. Going through all items on my mental list until I came to it end.
Once I did I stood up from where I was kneeling, zipped up my bag, but not before taking the flashlight out of it, slung it back over my back, and then I released Spyro.
"Okay buddy we're finally here. Mt. Moon." I told him. "Let's go." I said.
"Dratini." He replied.
Once he did the two of us started heading towards the entrance we had chosen follow into Mt. Moon.
Where we would be staying for quite some time. Hunting not only for Moon Stones, which I will need to help Artemis evolve into her final form, but also faires.
I'm of course referring to the Clefable line.
For if you have not guessed it by now I am going the route of the generalist trainer. Meaning I won't specialize in any one type of Pokemon. Which I know makes more work for me, since training up different Pokemon of different types and species all together at the same time won't be easy. But when all is said and done the benefits will pay for the cost and then some.
Anyway on my team I wish to have a Fairy-type Pokemon, and Clefable is my choice.
So a fairy hunting I will go.
Get ready Clefable. I'm coming for you, and I won't stop or give up until you are mine.
This, I swear!
"I give up!" I cried. Tearing into my dinner. Which is nothing more than a piece of salted dried meat.
The only thing I've been eating for the past three days. Given that my provisions from my personal Mt. Moon exploration are now basically all gone.
And I have nothing for show for it!
It's been three and a half weeks since I began my exploration and I've got nothing to show for it.
NoMoon Stones and sure as hell no Fairy-type!
Though after my first two days I did find the exit to the other side of the mountain that leads to Cerulean City. Meaning I can leave anytime I want.
Which is exactly what I'm getting ready to do.
After my Pokemon and I finish our lunch.
Which the four of us are currently enjoying inside a small cave we found during our month-long spelunking exploration.
We've actually been using it as our base camp. Since no wild Pokemon that inhabit the mountain use it. Plus it's close to the Cerulean City exit. It also only has one entrance/exit. Making it defendable in case of wild Pokemon attack.
Several of which me and my team had experienced.
But that has only made them stronger.
"Dratini?" Spyro said.
I gently patted the top of his head in response. "Yeah, I'm okay pal. Just frustrated that we haven't even gotten a single result I wanted when I set this whole expedition into motion." I explained.
"Nido. Nidoran." Artemis said. Giving me a look.
"No, I'm not giving up. I just think we'll need to take some time before returning and trying again. But as to how much, I don't know." I replied.
"Magmar." Surtr said. Holding out his fist in my direction.
Because ever since he's evolved he's become addicted to fist bumps.
Putting a small smile on his face I bumped my fist with his since I didn't want to leave him hanging. "Thanks Surtr. Same to the rest of you." I told them.
My Pokemon all smiling at me in response.
Ah, they truly are a person's best friend.
'Though I do wish at the moment I could find the particular Pokemon I'm looking for.'I thought. Even though I know it's not going to come true. Since it's not like I'm the protagonist of a story with their luck or anything.
"Fable. Clefable. Clefa-"
Then no sooner than I thought that did a motherfucking Clefableenter into the cave.
Well skipped, but my point still stands.
Freezing up as soon as it saw me and the others.
Though the same could be said for us.
Given the Pokemon we were looking for just basically walked up to us.
'Seriously. This is some anime protagonist bullshit luck right here.'I thought.
But I am not complaining. I'll take it.
Getting out of my daze at seeing the Clefable I put my best charming and open smile on my face. "Hello there. My name is Mikoto Suoh and I'm and Pokemon trainer. And I was wondering, would you like to join my team?"
"Fable!" Clefable shrieked in response. I then saw it getting ready to turn and run.
Meaning option one, befriending it, it out.
Leaving only option two. The hard way.
"Quickly everyone, box Clefable in! Don't let it escape!" I commanded.
When I did the others sprung into action.
Slithering across the ground Spyro put itself between Clefable and the cave exit. He then lunged forward and hit Clefable with one of the new moves he had acquired through training.
Slam.
Thrown off balance Clefable was forced back.
Then once it was Surtr, Spyro, and Artemis surrounded it in a triangle formation.
Seeing this Clefable reacted by using Magical Leaf of all moves and sending out leaves in everyone's direction.
Or at least tried too.
"Surtr, burn them all with Flamethrower." I told him.
Giving me a thumbs up Surtr unleashed a torrent of flames from his mouth, burning up all the leaves Clefable created.
"Spyro use Thunderwave and then Artemis Poison Sting."
Then before it could make another I had the others move in to begin the kill.
Unleashing a burst of electricity from its body Spyro directed it toward Clefable who took a direct it. At the same time it also took a direct hit from Artemis' attack.
"Surtr, Fire Punch." I said. Calling for him to use the move he learned up evolving a few weeks ago.
"Magmar!" He exclaimed.
He then coated both his fists in fire, moved in close, and delivered a two-hit combo to Clefable like in a boxing match.
Sending the Fairy-type crashing into the ground and sliding right up to my feet.
"Artemis, finish it. Poison Sting once more." I spoke.
"Nidoran!" She cried. Artemis then fired off another Poison Sting, getting another direct hit. Which then knocked out Clefable for good.
When this happened I quickly took out my Pokeball and tapped its forehead with it. Clefable easily going inside and the pokeball clicking with the sound of capture after a few wiggles.
Once this happened I looked toward my Pokemon. "Good work everyone." I said. Feeling no shame in my actions just now. For Clefable are one of the rarest Pokemon in the entire world, and since it just walked in on me there was no way I was letting it get away.
Sure I got a little rough with it. I'm sure we can work things out.
But before that let's see what I'm working with.
Taking out my Pokedex I let it scan Clefable's pokeball and then focused in on the important stats.
[Gender: Female Height:4'3" Weight:88.2 Ibs Ability: Cute Charm Type: Fairy Moveset: Magical Leaf, Moonblast, Life Dew, Pound, Metronome, Sweet Kiss, Encore, Defense Curl, Disarming Voice, Play Rough, Fire Punch]
Seeing Clefable's status I couldn't help but let out a low whistle. Glad we took it down so quickly. Otherwise things might've gotten a bit messy. Especially with Clefable's Cute Charm ability and two-thirds of my team being male Pokemon.
Well not anymore.
Not with Luna now apart of the gang.
Hopefully she likes her new name.
As well as doesn't cause me too much trouble, considering how I just kicked off our relationship.
Putting my Pokedex away after observing Clefable's status I returned the others, save for Spyro, and cleaned things up.
Then when I was finished the two of us started making our way through the cave system until we exited Mt. Moon on the Cereulean City side.
Giving us a beautiful view of the stars.
Since it was nighttime.
Leaving both Spyro and I with a sight we will surely never forget.
Spotting Cerulean City ahead of me, the sun rising in the background of it, I picked up my pace a little bit. Spyro doing the same right alongside me.
Because I wanted to enter the city as quickly as possible, then get to the Pokemon centre, and get a room so I could crash. Because I am dirt tired right now.
Looks like my little Mt. Moon expedition took more out of me than I initially thought. Add to that the fact I've been walking for most of the night and you get a recipe for someone in desperate need of a soft bed and pillow.
Making me a man on a mission.
Reaching the city I couldn't help but stifle several yawns as Spyro and I made our way towards the Pokemon centre. Then we eventually arrived at our destination I put a smile on my face. "Finally. Bed, here I come." I spoke. Spyro and I entering the centre.
"Welcome." The Joy on duty said. A smile on her face. "How may I help you this morning young man?" She asked.
"My name is Mikoto Suoh and I'm a Pokemon trainer." I spoke. Reaching the counter, taking out my Pokedex, and handing it to nurse Joy so she could confirm my identity.
Taking it she went through the proper procedure before handing it back to me. "Welcome then, Mr. Suoh. And once more how may I assist you?"
"I would like a room." I said. "As well as for you to check on my Pokemon for me."
"Sure, no problem." The Joy replied.
She then called for A Chansey who brought a gurney with a Pokeball holder like depicted in the anime. Once she did I returned Spyro then placed his, and everyone else's Pokeball's on the gurney which the Chansey then rolled away.
After this Nurse Joy gave me my room key and I thanked her briefly before heading straight for it to get a bit comfortable.
Which included me taking a nice, long, hot shower. For apparently I smelled like ass.
And not the good kind either.
After my shower I got dressed in some comfortable clothing.
I then waited for Nurse Joy to call me back up to the front desk and retrieve my Pokemon. Who she informed me were all in good health.
Taking note of that I then returned to my room.
Where I then fell onto the bed and almost instantly began sleeping like a log.
A trend I continued for almost 24 uninterrupted hours. For the next time I opened my eyes the moon was in the sky again. But that only happened for a few minutes before I went right back to dreamland. Not waking up again until the next sunrise.
'Yeah, I was definitely more tired than I originally thought.'I thought. As I did a few stretches to limber up my slightly stiff body. All from the all day sleeping marathon I just finished. But boy if that wasn't one of the best sleeps I've ever experienced.
In either lives.
Finishing my stretching I headed into the room bathroom and took care of some business before changing clothes and heading to the centre cafeteria.
Because now that I was rested I was starving.
But before I stuff my face there's one more important thing I need to take care of.
Heading out to the centre training grounds I released Spyro, Artemis, and Surtr.
All of whom began stretching like I did when I woke up this morning. So I waited until they were all finished and had their attention firmly on me.
"Morning guys. Hope you enjoyed your rest. Because today we get right back to training. Though before that we need to deal with our newest addition. Who I am getting ready to release. On that note don't make a move unless I am in danger or instruct you too. Understand?"
"Magmar! Nidoran! Dratini!" They all chorused in acknowledgement.
When they did I gave them a curt nod in response. I then took Clefable's pokeball off my belt and released her.
Then the second after I did she looked around and got an anxious expression on her face, before noticing me and the others. After which her look of anxiousness turned to one of fear mixed with a tiny bit of anger.
Seeing this I raised my arms up gently. "Hey now, there's no need to be afraid. We're not going to attack you." I spoke. "Anymore." I added.
"Fable. Clefable." She said. Pointing a finger at me and the others.
"Yes, I realize the circumstances of our first meeting leave a lot to be desired. But at the time you were getting ready to run away from us and I couldn't allow that. Since I wanted you to become one of my Pokemon. But since you wouldn't even take the time to consider my offer I had to make use of some forceful methods." I explained. "But I assure you me and my team were not trying to do you any real harm."
"Fable?" Clefable questioned.
"Truly." I replied.
"Dratini." He spoke. Slithering forward slightly. "Tini."
"Fable." Clefable mused. I then slowly but surely saw some of the fear and anxiousness in her expression subside.
'Okay. So far so good.'I thought. Now I just need this next part to go well.
"So now that we've established my team and I met you no actual harm allow me to make my proposal once more. As I have said I am a Pokemon trainer and my name is Mikoto Suoh. And I am on a journey to become a powerful Pokemon trainer. To accomplish this goal I have begun assembling a team of Pokemon I wish to accompany on my road to greatness and in that regard I wanted a fairy-type. Specifically a member of your species. Now no offense, but it didn't have to be you. Any of your evolutionary line would've done. But during my personal expedition into Mt. Moon where your species is known to live you were the only one of your kind I encountered. Hence why I captured you and brought you with me. However if you truly feel you cannot work with me I will release you and return you to the mountain. Though I hope you choose otherwise and become a part of my team, and my family. However again Clefable, the choice is entirely yours." I said. Having said my piece.
Not responding in any way Clefable simply stared at me, then at the others, and then looked around for five minutes straight. Before finally she walked up to me and gently took my hand.
"So, does this mean you'll join us?" I asked.
"Fable. Clefable." She happily exclaimed.
Bringing a smile to my face. "Excellent. Welcome to the team then." I told her. "And I was wondering how you would feel about taking on the name Luna?"
"Fable?" She questioned.
"Oh it means Moon." I told her.
When I did she perked up and vigorously nodded her head.
Not that I would expect anything less, given her species relationship to the Moon.
"Good, no problems. So from now on you shall be known as Luna." I spoke. "Come say hello everyone." I said.
When I did the others came forward and began greeting Luna. Who was slightly apprehensive given how they met, but within a few moments they had warmed up to her and vice versa.
Making my smile bigger.
Grrr
That is until my stomach reminded me it was less than empty.
"Okay guys you'll have plenty of time to chat later. Right now, let's go eat!" I exclaimed.
The others, even Luna, cheering with me.
Pokemon after my own heart.
It being a unanimous decision we headed back inside and this time for sure went straight for the cafeteria. Where I got one of everything from the breakfast menu, and set up my Pokemon with lots to eat.
Then once our bellies were filled we headed back outside to the training fields and I turned to face everyone. Putting a serious expression on my face.
"Alright people, here's your training plans for today. Luna, since you're new your with me. Surtr, continue working on increasing the intensity of your flames. That's one of the key points you'll need in order to use even more powerful fire-type moves. Spyro and Artemis, today the two of us are going to spar with each other. Work on dodging and move accuracy. Spyro you especially with your dragon-type moves. While Artemis, get a better grasp on Thunderbolt." I spoke.
For thanks to our training Artemis had learned how to use the move.
Which wasn't easy, let me tell you.
I had to have her get repeatedly hit by Thunder Wave from Spyro until she grasped the feeling of electrical energy. Though it's paying off now.
"Any questions?" I asked.
No one replied.
"Good, then get to work." I said.
When I did Spyro, Artemis, and Surtr all began training as instructed. While Luna stayed by my side.
Then once I saw the others get into the swing of things I turned my gaze towards her. I then began her training. Firstly having her showcase all her moves to me so I could know how proficient she is with them.
Then once that was over I had her focus on a select few for now. Specifically Defense Curl, Life Dew, Sweet Kiss, Metronome, Encore, and her three Fairy-type moves. For I have already decided on the path I want Luna to take in regards to her training.
Just like Artemis she'll be a defensive-battler by nature. But unlike Artemis who I am preparing to be a moving tank, able to take hits and keep going, Luna will take the more natural path in defensive-battling and turn most matches she competes in into endurance and stamina tests. Given all the healing and status-effecting moves she has access too. She'll also take on a support role.
If I were to put things in terms of a game then Artemis is training to become a Shielder while Luna is training to become a Cleric.
After two hours of practice I called for everyone to take a fifteen minute break.
We then got back too it for another two hours before calling training to an end for the day.
I then gave everyone an hour of rest before I started the same trend I did back at the Pewter City gym Pokemon centre and made myself available for open-challengers. Wagering some of my funds to anyone who beat me.
Just like in Pewter City this drew trainers to me like a fat kid to an ice cream buffet and five battlers later I was 25,000$ Pokedollars richer.
As my last challenger went back inside the Pokemon centre I noticed the gazes the crowd my open-battle challenge had attracted all focused on me. Putting a small smirk on my face I looked at them all. "So, who wants to try their hand next at battling me? Anyone? Anyone at all?" I asked.
Only for no one to step up.
"I'll take you on."
Until one person did.
Stepping out of the crowd they took the opposite side of the battlefield I had been using, and when they did I did all I could not to react.
Since the person who now stood before me was none other than the older brother of Ash's Sinnoh rival, and in my opinion his last and best rival, despite his overall attitude, Reggie.
'But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's not him.'I thought. Though there is one way to be sure.
"Greetings challenger. As you know my name is Mikoto Suoh, and you are?"
"Reggie Shinji." He replied.
"Cool. So you from around here?" I asked.
"Nope. Just arrived here from the Sinnoh region a few weeks ago actually." He revealed.
Confirming my suspicions. He is the Reggie from the anime.
Excellent.
Especially considering how good of a Pokemon battler the anime described him as before he retired from it and became a Pokemon Breeder.
Yet right now he looks like he's only a year or two older than me. Meaning he's a long way away from the Reggie in the anime. That means I've got a real challenge on my hands here at the moment.
Which is exactly one of the reasons I have been proposing these open battle challenges. Now it's paying off.
And in the most unexpected way too.
But like with most things I am not complaining.
"Alright then. So enough talk, let's get this battle started." I said.
"Took the words right out of my mouth." Reggie replied.
The two of us getting grins on our faces at the exact same time.
For I think we both knew this coming battle was going to push both us and our Pokemon.
A/N: Yes, so another Pokemon for Mikoto. This time in the form of his fairy-type Clefable, also known as Luna. Which I know he found because of bullshit luck. And don't worry I won't be using such lucky moments for the entire story. My protagonist will struggle in the future. Though right now I'm getting him warmed up. As for my introduction of Reggie, I did so because I just thought of it. Given that most of the main characters are the same age as Ash and I don't want to create to many OC's. This is my way of giving Mikoto some competition. For Reggie is going to be one of his rivals. Surprise! And won't that effect the future. To see how continue reading my story.
