The next few weeks went by in a blur. Outside of her college classes and part time work shifts at Cagnee's pizza place, she was spending every free moment researching Godzilla's movements.

By this point, she had a pretty good idea that he often frequented one of the beaches near the power plants. It wasn't one of the nicer beaches, so it usually wasn't crowded there anyway. But now, it was even more desolate, since the police had blocked it off and closed it to the public. Probably because Godzilla had chosen that place as his spot to come and go from the water.

The barricades weren't hard to get around and the police had long stopped patrolling the beach entrance. They must have figured no one would be dumb enough to go there and get themselves stomped or eaten by a kaiju. She didn't like to think of her actions coming here as 'dumb'...ok, well maybe a little dumb. But really she preferred to think of her escapades as, 'educational kaiju research.'

Her roommate, Paula had chewed her out royally when Em had told her she had been near that fight between Godzilla the kaiju spider. Paula had been so upset and fearful for Em's safety that Em had told Paula that she had had been scared straight when Godzilla had walked so close to her and would not be engaging in anymore kaiju paparazzi antics.

A bit of a lie, but she found it necessary. She didn't want Paula to worry about her or chew her out and get in her way. So she thought it best that Paula just didn't know what she was up to.

Em sighed and looked out her window. It was near dusk. She packed a couple of snacks, a bottled water and a jacket. Shouldering her backpack, she prepared for another long night at the beach, of just sitting there staring at the water, hoping Godzilla would make an appearance.

The beach was quiet when Em arrived, as it always was now. The only sounds were the soft crash of waves and the occasional rustle of wind through the sparse dunes. The barricades at the entrance were laughably easy to slip around, and the lack of police patrols made it feel almost too easy. Still, her heart raced as she crept onto the sand, her backpack bouncing lightly against her shoulder.

She found her usual spot near a cluster of large rocks that provided a bit of cover and a clear view of the ocean. From here, she could see the power plants glowing faintly in the distance, their lights reflecting off the water. This was the spot. This was his spot.

Settling in, she pulled out her jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders, bracing against the cool evening breeze. She had been coming here every other night for weeks now, hoping for a glimpse of him.

So far…nothing.

Her patience was wearing thin, but she reminded herself why she was doing this.

Godzilla wasn't just a force of destruction—he was a force of nature, a protector, a living legend. Seeing him up close had only deepened her fascination. Em wasn't sure what she was hoping to achieve by coming here night after night, but something inside her wouldn't let her stop. She needed to see him again.

As the sky darkened, the stars began to peek through the thin layer of clouds, their light shimmering on the surface of the water. Em sighed, pulling out one of her snacks and taking a small bite, her eyes never leaving the horizon. It was peaceful here, in a way that almost felt deceptive.

But then the peace shattered.

The waves suddenly surged, the gentle rhythm replaced by a deep, distant rumble. Em's breath hitched as she scrambled to her feet, her heart pounding. The water near the shore churned violently, and a massive shadow rose from the depths.

She froze, her snack dropping forgotten to the sand.

There he was.

Godzilla emerged from the water, his towering form glistening under the faint moonlight. His dorsal plates glowed faintly as seawater cascaded down his body. The ground beneath her feet trembled with each step he took, and she could feel the power radiating from him, even from this distance.

He stopped just offshore, his glowing eyes scanning the beach. For a moment, Em wondered if he saw her. No, it's too dark. He can't possibly

But then his gaze locked onto her hiding spot by the rocks. He rumbled softly, a sound that vibrated through her chest and made her legs feel like jelly.

"Oh my god," she whispered, unable to move. She had wanted this, hadn't she? To see him again? Now that he was here, so close and so... aware of her, she wasn't sure if she should feel exhilarated or terrified.

Godzilla let out a low growl. Not hostile, but not exactly welcoming either. He tilted his massive head slightly, as if assessing her. Then, with a heavy snort, he began moving again, his footsteps shaking the ground as he made his way further up the shore.

She swallowed hard, her heart hammering. "He knows I'm here," she murmured to herself, clutching her jacket tightly. "What the hell do I do now?"

Em watched as he continued on his way up the beach. He had chosen to ignore her...again. This was pushing her luck and it was an incredibly stupid idea, but she decided to follow him.

She couldn't help being curious about where he was going and what he was doing. She let him get a little way off, then adjusted her backpack and started to quietly jog after him, making sure to leave plenty of space between them. There was a rocky outcropping up ahead that jutted out of the water. Godzilla stepped around it and disappeared behind the rocks.

"Crap, I'm gonna lose him," she said to herself as she picked up her pace.

When she reached the rocks, she kept low and slowly peered around the corner. No Godzilla. Oh shoot! Did he go back in the water?

Em made her way around the rocks and stood on the shore, right at the waterline, peering into the ocean. It was getting dark now, but she figured if he had gone into the water, she would see his glowing scales. She squinted in concentration as she scanned the water.

"Looking for someone?" a deep, rumbly voice said behind her.

Em let out a squeal of surprised and jumped up. Her heart thundered in her chest, both startled and terrified as she turned and found Godzilla standing a mere two feet away, glaring down at her with his glowing eyes.

It wasn't just that he was standing less than an arm's length away, towering over her with his massive form and an annoyed glint in his eyes. But he had also spoken to her! It totally shocked her. I didn't know he could speak!

Em was too flabbergasted to say anything back. She just stared up at him, frozen in place. To her horror, he leaned down toward her and brought his snout mere inches from her face. He let out a rumbly growl, a puff of air escaping his nostrils that sent her falling backward into the sand. Laying on her back in the sand in such a vulnerable position while he towered over her was terrifying, but she didn't dare move a muscle.

"You have a death wish or something, kid? I don't take kindly to being followed around."

He leaned in even closer and she closed her eyes tight. She felt several puffs of air over her face as he sniffed her. She opened her eyes again and saw his snout was hovering just above her.

He's going to eat me.

Well, there was nothing she could do about it if he did. Begging for her life probably wouldn't get her anywhere. He had probably heard it all before at this point and besides; she had been the one following him around, annoying him, and pushing her luck. She couldn't really blame him if he decided to eat her.

Em finally found some semblance of courage and responded to him in a small, trembly voice. "W..well, I guess there are worse ways to go than to be eaten by one's favorite kaiju."

Her mouth snapped her mouth shut. She hadn't meant to say something so dumb. It was her nerves making her blurt out the first thing that came to mind.

Godzilla paused and then pulled back a little to look at her. For a moment there was only silence, then he let out a loud, booming laugh. "I have to admit kid, that's not what I would have expected to hear from someone who thinks they're about to get eaten. You're a strange human."

Godzilla's laugh was like a rolling thunder, deep and guttural, shaking the very air around them. Em laid there frozen, her heart still hammering in her chest, but her mind was spinning. She had just been inches away from Godzilla's jaws, and now he was laughing at her?

She braved moving into a sitting position as she tried to keep him talking.

"That's... good, right?" she ventured, her voice still unsteady. "You're laughing, so I'm guessing you're not going to eat me?"

Godzilla snorted, his glowing eyes narrowing as he tilted his massive head to the side, scrutinizing her. "Eat you? Nah. You'd barely be a snack," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Besides, I'm not some mindless beast like that spider I roasted. I've got better things to do than munch on annoying little humans who can't take a hint."

Em let out a shaky breath, unsure whether to feel relieved or offended. "Annoying? I'm not... okay, maybe I am a little. But I'm just curious!" she said, her voice rising slightly before she caught herself. "I didn't mean to bother you or anything, I just... I mean, you're Godzilla. You're incredible."

He rumbled softly, the sound somewhere between amusement and exasperation. "Yeah, yeah. I get it. Big scary lizard, everyone's favorite walking apocalypse. Doesn't mean you should be sneaking around after me, kid. You could've gotten yourself squished."

He leaned back slightly, crossing his massive arms, an almost human gesture that made her blink in surprise. "And don't think flattery's gonna get you out of trouble. I'm not that easy to impress."

Em swallowed, trying to steady her nerves. "I wasn't trying to flatter you," she said quickly. "I mean, I am impressed, but I'm just... I don't know. I wanted to understand you, I guess."

Godzilla's eyes softened, just a fraction, but his gruff tone remained. "Understand me? What's there to understand? I keep this rock clear of kaiju that'd tear it apart worse than I do. Humans leave me alone, I leave them alone. Simple."

She frowned slightly; the fear beginning to ebb as her curiosity took over. "But it's not that simple, is it? You don't just fight them off for no reason. You protect this planet, don't you? Like it's your turf."

Godzilla huffed, his nostrils flaring. "Maybe. Doesn't mean I need a fan club following me around, asking questions like I'm some kind of hero."

Em couldn't help but smile faintly, despite her lingering fear. "Well, for what it's worth, you're kind of a hero to me."

He gave her a long, measured look, then sighed, the sound like a low rumble of distant thunder. "You're a weird one, kid. You're lucky I'm not in the mood to teach you a lesson tonight."

He turned, his massive tail swinging behind him, but paused after a few steps. "You've got guts, I'll give you that. Just don't make a habit of this. Next time, I might not be so patient."

Em watched him retreat, her legs finally starting to move as she finally stood up. Her heart was still pounding, but a small, incredulous smile crept onto her face. "Thank you for talking to me," she called after him, her voice barely audible over the crash of the waves.

Godzilla didn't look back, but his rumbling voice carried through the night. "Go home, kid. And stay out of trouble."

As he disappeared into the darkness, Em stood there for a long moment, the reality of what had just happened washing over her. She had just had a conversation with the king of the Kaiju.

Her life would never be the same.

Em finally turned away from the shoreline, the waves lapping at her feet as if urging her to leave. Her head was still spinning, her heart still racing, but deep down, she knew the truth: she couldn't stay away. Not now.

Not after that.

The realization that Godzilla could talk—and that he had chosen to talk to her—had changed everything. He wasn't just a force of nature, a towering beast with unmatched power. He was someone. A gruff, sarcastic, and clearly annoyed someone, but someone nonetheless.

His words echoed in her mind: Don't make a habit of this. Next time, I might not be so patient.

Em chewed her lip, mulling over the implications. She'd been reckless, yes, but if he'd really wanted her gone—crushed, incinerated, or tossed into the ocean—he could have done it in a heartbeat. Instead, he'd spared her again, teased her, and even acknowledged her guts.

"Doesn't mean he wasn't serious though," she muttered to herself as she trudged back up the beach toward the rocky path that led to the barricades. "He's probably hoping I'll be scared off now."

But the thing was, she wasn't scared—at least, not enough to stay away. Godzilla was fascinating, and she was determined to figure him out. Why had he been so tolerant of her, even if he was annoyed? Did he secretly like the attention? Was it pure indifference? Or was it something else entirely?

Her curiosity burned brighter than her fear, and she knew it wouldn't be long before she found herself back on this beach, or somewhere else Godzilla frequented. If she was careful—if she didn't push her luck too far—maybe he'd tolerate her presence again. And maybe, just maybe, she could learn more about him.

For now, though, she'd give him space. It was obvious he valued his solitude, and she didn't want to blow whatever strange, fragile understanding they seemed to have.

"I'll wait a little while," she said aloud, more to convince herself than anything. "Give him time to cool off... and maybe try to figure out a way to not get crushed if I do this again."

As she climbed back over the barricades and made her way home, Em couldn't stop the small smile that crept across her face. Godzilla had called her weird and annoying, sure, but he'd also spared her, talked to her, and even laughed.

She was already looking forward to the next encounter.
