Yellow looked at the numbers on the doors as she walked down the hallway in the Pokémon Center's dormitory area, trying to identify which room she should stay in.
The key on her hand was numbered 09.
When she finally reached her room, she put the key in the lock only to discover that the door was already open.
She opened the doorknob and entered a dark room.
She began to cough when she realized that a strong smell of smoke was dominating the room.
Lying on a bed was a girl staring at the ceiling while puffing on what appeared to be a cigarette. She was wearing a red mini skirt and a blue t-shirt.
"Coff coff, excuse me," Yellow said as she coughed. "Is this room already occupied?"
The girl noticed her presence and looked at her.
"Yes. Sorry sis, I hadn't noticed you were there."
She sat on the bed and stood up.
"Well, Nurse Joy informed me that I would probably have to share a room with someone else," she said after removing the cigarette from her mouth and blowing out a large amount of smoke. "What a bummer."
Yellow could barely stand that smell, but at the same time, she thought it would be rude to complain to the girl she had just met.
"Coff Coff. My name is Yellow and this is Chuchu." Yellow introduced Pikachu who was on her lap covering his nose with his little hands.
"Pika... Pika...", replied Chuchu.
Suddenly, the bedroom door had been thrown open violently.
A girl appeared in front with a furious expression.
"Look here, you fucking junkie! I can't stand this unbearable smell of cigarettes or whatever kind of drugs you do anymore! I hate being a whinny bitch, but if that unbearable smell comes into my room again, I'm going to have to report you to the Pokémon Center administration."
Yellow looked at the girl and realized that it was the same one who had played the prank on her earlier at the bakery.
The other girl just sighed deeply.
"Whatever. I'm leaving anyway, you fucking cunt."
The girl stubbed out the cigarette ash on the wall and threw it into a wastebasket.
The girl turned red with anger. "Fuck you, you whore."
After the insult, the girl walked back to her room, frowning.
After the tense atmosphere, Yellow decided to put her things away and make her bed.
"I'm leaving, I don't know what time I'll be back. Don't wait for me."
Yellow looked at her and nodded.
"All right."
The girl was about to head down the hallway when she suddenly stopped in the middle of the path.
"One more thing... you're not a fucking wimp... are you?"
Am I?, Yellow thought, trying to figure out what the meaning of that expression was. Since she didn't know the answer, she decided to answer: "No, I think..."
"Good, because I hate squeamish people."
So the girl left.
As she packed her things, Yellow finally realized that she hadn't asked the girl's name.
The place she was in was different from last time.
Where there had once been a long, endless blue sky was now a vast, empty darkness, filled only with small, bright dots that represented the stars.
Inside the psychic chamber was the pink, mystical being who had saved her life in the Viridian Forest.
Yellow began to swim in that great sea of psychic energy and soon arrived close to where the Pokémon was.
"Mew!," Yellow exclaimed, smiling as she spotted the Pokémon again.
Mew, however, had a melancholic and somber expression, unlike the positivity Yellow remembered.
"What's... What's wrong with you?"
Mew looked at her with empty, sad eyes.
"I'm sad," he said.
"What's the reason?"
"Unfortunately, a calamity will soon strike the Kanto region and there is nothing I can do to stop it," he replied as he gazed at the stars. "Innocent blood will be spilled and the world will turn into a vast battlefield filled with despair and darkness."
Yellow didn't know what to say about the information she had just digested. If what Mew was saying was really true, the terror of knowing beforehand how everything would probably happen was too suffocating for her to bear.
"B-but you're a powerful Pokémon! Could you..."
Mew interrupted her.
"Even if I wanted to, I don't have the power to change fate. Unfortunately, all the factors that triggered this dark future have already been fulfilled, and now there's nothing left to do but watch from afar as the tragedy slowly escalates in size," he said. "In any case, it's not like I can interfere in the human world in any way. We mystical Pokémon are not allowed to interfere in the fate of humanity, no matter how tragic it may be."
Yellow remained silent, taking it all in. Finally, she asked, "Then why did you bring me here?"
"I just wanted to let you know so you can be prepared, after all, the fate of Kanto especially concerns you."
"Me?"
Yellow didn't understand. She was just a simple Pokémon Trainer who had grown up in a forest. How was the fate of a region as large as Kanto related to her?
"Yes, to you."
"How? Why?"
There were so many questions forming in her mind that she barely had time to ask them all.
Mew just shook its head in denial.
"I have already revealed everything I can at the moment."
Yellow looked into space, frustrated at not having any information about that dark future that saddened the Pokémon so much. If she knew at least something, maybe she could prevent it from happening.
"Yellow, one last thing..." Mew said. "That boy, Ash. Do you consider him important to you?"
Yellow didn't know how the conversation had gotten to Ash's name, but she still replied, "Of course! He's my friend."
"I see... Now answer me something, would you have the courage to sacrifice the life of just one person to save the lives of millions of others? Even if that person is, let's say, a friend?"
"Of course not!"
She wasn't liking the direction that conversation was going.
If the alternative was either the lives of millions or the life of someone important, Yellow would certainly try to find a third option that would not cause pain to either side.
"I see... You are indeed someone with a pure and kind heart, now I see that I was not foolish in saving your life."
A ball of energy came out of Mew's mouth and entered Yellow's body.
"What was that?"
"A gift, in due time you will know what it is. Until then, be careful. If you keep your heart pure even after everything that happens... Maybe..."
And so, enigmatically, that world disappeared.
When Yellow opened her eyes, she realized it was still dark. Next to her in bed, Chuchu was snoring, probably having her Pokémon dreams. Knowing her Pokémon as well as she did, she was probably dreaming about food.
Yellow looked at the other bed and realized it was empty.
The other girl who shared the room hadn't come back yet.
Yellow rolled over in bed trying to sleep again, but sleep wouldn't come. Instead, she spent the rest of the night awake, pondering Mew's warning.
