Draw me something
Namine sat down on a bench in the middle of the town square and watched as the tram passed her by. She pulled out her sketchbook and pencils and scanned the surrounding area. The buildings of Twilight town always made good subjects to draw, and she settled on a lovely little apartment building. She began her basic outline and became excited about the prospect of being able to draw all the various plants that adorned the apartment balconies. She became lost in the act of drawing and didn't notice the boy standing next to her until he spoke.
"Hey, will you draw me something?"
Namine jumped "Ah!"
He held up his hands and said "Sorry, sorry! I didn't mean to startle you!"
She put her hand to her beating chest. "Its alright." She said then looked at the boy. He had bright blue eyes and spiky blonde hair.
He smiled at her, it was a lovely smile she had to admit. "Hi, I'm Roxas." He held out his hand to her.
She shook it gently. "Hi." She wasn't interested in being hit on, she just wanted to draw.
"So" He started then rubbed the back of his neck nervously "…will you draw me something?"
Such an annoying thing to be asked. The sheer amount of people that ask her that at school was enough to make her not draw in school. Unless of course it was far away from prying eyes, but the problem with that is there is nothing to draw in those places.
"Umm, no." She said. She wasn't trying to be mean, it just annoyed her. Maybe if he had asked nicer.
"Oh." He said disappointed. "Well, I'll see you around." He walked away.
"Great, now I feel bad." She sighed. She didn't feel like drawing anymore and got up to leave.
Namine returned to the same bench she was at yesterday to continue her drawing. She was able to get to same of the bigger details, but still not ready for the coveted flowers, when she heard a familiar and annoying voice.
"Hey, drawing again?" Roxas asked.
Namine looked up at Roxas who was eating an ice cream bar. She nodded.
"Cool, I bet it'll look good." He bit into his ice cream.
'Don't ask what I think you're about to' Namine thought. "T-thanks." She said out loud.
Roxas smiled at her and nodded. "Hey, if you don't mind…"
"No." Namine said. How many times will it take for him to get it!
"…I see." He walked away into the town square and was lost in the crowd.
"UGGHHG!" Namine sighed. "Why do I always not want to draw after that annoying boy leaves!" Was she being to mean to him? "No…maybe?" she said to herself. "No! the sheer amount of people who ask me that day in and day out, seriously I'll draw you something if I want to. You can't force creativity."
Namine once again found herself at the same bench. She should have just left and not come back so she could avoid that Roxas boy. But she had to see this drawing through to the end!
Finally, she was working on her most awaited part, the flowers! She began in a fervor until Roxas came around.
"Hey!" He said.
She was ready this time. She flipped the pages of her sketch book and ripped out a drawing and aggressively handed it to him. "Here!"
He was a little baffled and stuttered. "T-thanks. But…"
"…If you don't mind." She interrupted him. She gives him what he wants and its not good enough. Seriously! That's why she doesn't draw for people, like come on!
"Oh, sorry." He walked away sullenly.
Namine sighed. "Man…I'm such a jerk." Namine put her things in her bag and began to look for Roxas. She went to the shops and asked if they had seen him, she asked passersby's, she asked the tram driver. Some said they hadn't seen him others gave her a vague clue to go off of. She followed the clues all around town ending at the train station. She searched all around the building and asked the attendants if they had seen him, no one had. It was starting to get dark and she made her mind up to go home.
She ate dinner with her parents then went to her room. She sat at her drafting table and pulled out her sketch book. She flipped through it looking for a drawing of sunset terrace, but to her shock it was missing!
"Oh no!" She gasped. "I must have given it to him." She had spent untold hours on just the penciling and she was looking forward to coloring it. She sighed. "I guess I'll have to draw another sunset." She doubted she could find another day like that day she drew the original, there was just something so special about that drawing. Maybe its because she considered it her best work. No, the day she went to the terrace really was the perfect day. Everything fell into place and she was able to fully draw such a fleeting sight.
She flipped through the book until she was on her most recent work of the apartment building. She hadn't finished it yet…as she looked at it she was reminded about how rude she was. She closed her book and tried her best to go to sleep.
For the next several days Namine went back to that bench in the square, but she didn't see Roxas. She would keep her sketchbook open, but she didn't have any desire to finish the drawing she was working on.
She was about to get up and leave when she heard. "Here." It was Roxas, he was holding a folder out to her. He didn't sound upset at her just disinterested.
She wanted to smile or say something, but she just took the folder. He started to walk away. "w-wait!" He turned to her and stood there. Namine opened the folder to avoid his gaze.
What was in the folder took her breath away.
It was the drawing she had given him. He had colored it, and it was beautiful. She could tell he used a mix of watercolor and color pencils. Everything was blended expertly and lovingly. "This is incredible." She looked to him. "I-I…here you can keep it." She handed him back the folder.
He took the folder and reached into and pulled out…her pencil drawing of the terrace? "I made a photocopy, I didn't want to ruin the original." He handed it to her.
"I'm sorry!" She blurted out. "I was mean to you…I just get annoyed when everybody at school asks me to draw them something. I felt so awful and looked for you all evening a few days ago, but I couldn't find you."
"I figured, that's why I was trying to get your name the other times. I wanted to apologize for bothering you." Namine was washed by a heavy feeling of guilt. She had been rude and he was only trying to ask her name. He then added "You couldn't find me because I was on the station clock tower." He said nonchalantly. "I saw you looking around."
"That's dangerous!" She reprimanded him.
He shrugged. "I like it up there. It helps me clear my head. You should give it a try."
"I-I don't think I want to go up there." She admitted.
"I won't force you." He chuckled then smiled. "Hey, I'm Roxas." He held out his hand to her.
She gave him a gentle smile and shook his hand. "I'm Namine…sorry for being mean."
"It's alright, sorry I bugged you." He started to walk away. "I'll see you later. Here you can keep this one too." He handed her the folder.
She grabbed it and said "Roxas." She smiled. "I'll draw you something but only if you color it."
He smiled a big happy smile at her that melted her heart. "Deal!"
