THANKSGIVING 1932

Annette was flying! Too bad she couldn't afford more lessons. Then she spotted the 60-foot tomcat below the small cabin monoplane. Macy's awarded $100 to anyone returning a balloon freed after the parade; she dove for it.

The punctured cat wrapped itself around a wing; the plane dropped 500 feet. The flight instructor grabbed the controls, attempting to right the plane, hopeless – until a blue box sliced through the fabric, freeing the craft, setting the tattered cat adrift. "What the hell was that?" breathed the instructor.

"Thank you," Annette whispered to the clear sky, which had swallowed the blue box.
