Halloween Night
"Aren't we a little too old to be going out for Halloween?"
Mac turned around from the mirror, where she had been adjusting her horns. She gestured at Harm, using her tiny pitchfork as a pointer. "We are not too old for anything," she replied. She was about to turn back to the mirror until she caught something about Harm's appearance.
"Where's your halo?" she asked. "Don't tell me you forgot it-"
"It's right here, marine. Cool your jets." Harm chuckled, pulling the plastic halo out from underneath his jacket. The reasoning was that, since he already wore white so often in uniform, that he should be the angel for their couple's costume. The other end of the reasoning was that Mac looked too good in red to not be the devil.
"If I get anything on this tonight, you're paying for the dry cleaning," Harm said, looking down at his white shirt and white pants, already checking for any stains.
"Aye, Aye, Commander," Mac turned around, adjusting the neckline on her red cocktail dress. "How do I look?"
Harm smiled. "Very devilish, marine."
McMurphy's usually wasn't the hotspot for people under the age of thirty, but the bar had the fortune (or was it misfortune) of being one of the only bars within walking distance of Georgetown University. So that meant that on Halloween Night, it was positively crawling with irregulars, making the regulars a little annoyed.
Harm and Mac were able to snag a small section of the bar, wedging themself between two college couples who were intent on seeing who can make out the most intensely in public. The couple on the right were dressed as Bonnie and Clyde, and the couple on the left were dressed as what looked like Cinderella and Prince Charming, though the costumes were doubtedly Disney-approved.
Mac took a sip of her tonic water, gazing up at Harm with amusement. He'd been able to snag a stool for her; what a gentleman. "How long has it been since you made out with someone in a bar?"
Harm briefly glanced over his shoulder. "About a decade? What about you?"
She shrugged. "Probably since I stopped drinking."
"You know," Harm leaned down to combat the noise. "Maybe we should've stayed in. I had no idea this place would be this crowded."
"It's kind of fun, isn't it?" Mac countered. "It's Halloween. We're supposed to party," she reached out and playfully tugged his arm. "Come on, sailor. Lighten up."
"Mac, I think we're too old-"
"If we can't beat them, we should join them."
With that, Mac tugged Harm down by his shirtsleeve and kissed him.
The Admiral had gone to McMurphy's expecting a laid back Halloween night. However, judging by the fact that he had to parallel park three blocks away and there was actually a line to get in for once, he had a feeling that wouldn't be the case.
In the name of the holiday, AJ was wearing a flannel he already owned with a plastic sheriff's badge - the most costume-y he was willing to go. He had a hat he'd gotten a few years ago on a trip to Texas visiting one of his Vietnam buddies, but after taking it on and off three times, he decided it was too much.
Also, the sheer amount of drunk twenty-somethings AJ encountered when he walked inside was also too much.
In trying to make his way to an open spot at the bar, a flash of white and red caught AJ's eye. Instinctively being drawn to the white due to its Navy affiliation, AJ turned to look. It was a couple, dressed as an angel and a devil, practically on top of one another.
Upon closer inspection, the Admiral realized that it was Commander Rabb and his Chief of Staff locking lips and limbs.
He stared at them in disbelief for a few moments, not quite sure what to make of the sight of them together. Of course, he probably could've guessed - by how quickly they moved on from Mic and Renee, by how they started getting along oddly well in the office. But seeing it with his own eyes was a different story.
Ultimately, he decided to use his SEAL training and fly under the radar, pretending as though he'd seen nothing. It was Halloween Night, after all - they were just celebrating.
Nothing quite like a Halloween fic being posted the night before Thanksgiving.
Thanks for reading!
