Chapter 7

Brittany POV

Brittany fairly danced all the way home, she couldn't contain her smile. Santana had had fun! Santana had let Brittany kiss her! Brittany felt like she was walking on air and couldn't wait to see the Latina again.

She practically skipped into the house she shared with Puck, Sam, Josh, and Kelly, happy to see only Kelly in the living room. She just didn't want to deal with Puck and Sam's juvenile behavior.

Kelly looked up and smiled.

"I take it the date went well?"

Brittany flopped into an arm chair, throwing her legs over one of the arms.

"Perfect, Kel, just …" she sighed happily, "perfect."

Santana looked amazing; Brittany almost forgot she was holding the vase. She'd chosen the lavender rose specifically for its meaning; love at first sight. There was no doubt in her mind that she was in love with the Latina. Getting to know her over the past month had been amazing. She was funny and smart, she had a wicked sense of humor and a vicious tongue at times; a fact that had surprised Brittany the first time she heard it. She'd have never expected it but Quinn had told her that Santana hadn't always been so scared.

"Hi. You look great. Um, this is for you," she offered the brunette the flower in the vase.

"It's beautiful, Brittany, thank you." She looked at Brittany. "You look great, too."

Brittany was wearing black jeans with a cream colored sweater and a black blazer.

"Thanks. You ready?" The blonde asked.

Santana nodded.

"Have fun, kids!" Quinn shouted as they left the apartment.

"We will, mom!" Santana shouted back.

"I'll have her home by midnight, Mrs. Lopez!"

Santana giggled and Brittany grinned at her.

"We got to the restaurant and she was so surprised with the set up. It was awesome. I had ordered … oh, hang on," she grabbed her phone and typed out a quick message to let Santana know she'd gotten home safe, "sorry, promised her I'd let her know I got home safe and sound," she grinned dreamily and sighed. "Where was I? Oh, yeah. She loved the terrarium! Thanks for that idea."

"You're welcome, glad it worked out. So, dinner went well?"

"Yeah. I thought she'd be nervous … I know I was ... but we sat down and it was like we were just sitting in the Union having lunch. Like, it was our first 'real' date but … it didn't feel like our first date? Does that make sense?"

"Yeah. It does."

They spent the whole meal talking and laughing; no awkward pauses, no nervous laughter … just two friends having a meal. Only. It was a date. A date with an angel. And Santana was perfect.

After dinner they were on their way to Wadsworth to watch "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (One of Santana's favorites; Brittany swore the universe was on her side tonight.). When Santana suggested they leave the basket at her apartment, Brittany had readily agreed; that gave her an excuse to walk Santana to her door instead of saying goodnight at the bottom of the stairs.

She smiled as Santana took the terrarium out of the basket and set it on the table next to the rose.

"I'll put it in my room later," Santana said, "so I can see it first thing." She ducked her head, biting her lower lip and Brittany had to grin.

"I'm glad you like it."

Santana turned and looked at her. "I love it, Britt. It's beautiful and thoughtful. Thank you."

It was Brittany's turn to blush.

"We left the stuff there … oh, shoot, I forgot to grab some of the leftovers." Just then her phone buzzed and she grinned.

From: Santana

Hey (: you forgot your food … and your blazer. You can stop by tomorrow if you want and pick them up.

From: Santana

9-29-2015 12:23am

Um … or … if you're not busy tomorrow … maybe you could come here for leftovers and watch a movie? I mean, if you want?

Brittany grinned as she quickly sent a reply

To: Santana

That sounds great. Around 11?

From: Santana

9-29-2015

Perfect. See you then. (:

"Santana, I take it?" Kelly grinned.

"Yeah. She asked me to come over for leftovers and a movie tomorrow. And I forgot my blazer. She was cold so I gave it to her to wear."

"You're so sweet."

Brittany shrugged. "That's kind of why I wore a sweater under the jacket; just in case she got cold."

"You are too cute for words. You're really smitten by this girl."

Brittany shook her head. "Kel … it's been three weeks, I passed smitten a year ago," she grinned, "I'm pretty sure …" she hesitated, should she say this out loud? It was ridiculous … "I'm in love with this girl." Her voice was just above a whisper.

Kelly's POV

Kelly watched as Brittany pretty much skipped into the house and fell into the arm chair, slinging her legs over one of the arms.

Kelly grinned at the pretty blonde.

"I take it the date went well?"

"Perfect, Kel, just …" she sighed happily, "perfect."

Kelly had to smile as Brittany recounted the night. The blonde was definitely smitten with this girl.

Kelly had listened to Brittany talk about the Latina (with the smile that could put shame to the sun) practically since the day they met. Josh and Kelly were juniors last year and had had to find new housemates since the others had graduated. They'd posted on a message board and Brittany was one of the people who replied.

Josh and Kelly shared a room; they'd been together since high school and had gotten engaged over the summer. There were five rooms but they were only looking to fill three of them; they used the spare room for her things. Since they essentially paid for both rooms, they figured they should be able to use both rooms.

When they'd met up with Brittany, Kelly had liked the bubbly blonde right away. Josh hadn't had any complaints either so they offered her a room; her choice since she was the first person they'd agreed on. Brittany had chosen the one under/behind the stairs; it was fairly large, was located under the empty room (Josh and Kelly's was across the hall from the empty) and she wouldn't have to worry that the other new housemates would be close enough to disturb her.

They'd been living together about three weeks (they'd all stayed at school over the summer; taking a class or two and working) when Kelly had asked Brittany about a boyfriend.

"No, I'm single. Um … I … there's a girl, though … I hope you don't mind?" Brittany had seemed nervous.

"Nah. Who you like is your business. I like you, you're fun to be around and pretty easy to talk to. So … who's this girl?"

Kelly almost laughed as Brittany described the girl and then showed her a picture of a very pretty Latina with, admittedly, a beautiful smile.

Kelly looked at her friend and had to smile as Brittany's face lit up at a text message.

"Santana, I take it?" Kelly grinned at the blonde.

"Kel … it's been three weeks, I past smitten a year ago," she grinned, "I'm pretty sure …" she hesitated, should she say this out loud? It was ridiculous … "I'm in love with this girl." Her voice was just above a whisper.

Kelly's smile softened. "Yeah. That doesn't surprise me. I'm pretty sure you were half in love before you ever met her."

"Oh my god! I didn't even tell you about one of the best parts of the date!

They got popcorn, candy, and sodas – even though they weren't really hungry – "Everyone knows it's not a movie without candy and popcorn, San," Brittany grinned.

They were watching the previews and Brittany turned to Santana.

"I have this theory …" she started, not sure if she should actually tell Santana but … "sour patch kids are just gummy bears that have turned to drugs."

Santana looked thoughtful for a moment; her forehead scrunched in thought. "Where do they get the money for the drugs?"

Brittany was speechless for a second. Usually when she says something like that, people laugh or just shake their heads like she's weird. Santana … wow. "They steal Payday and 100,000 dollar bars."

Santana nodded like that made perfect sense, then her forehead scrunched again. "Do they go back to being gummy bears after rehab?" She asked, oh, so seriously.

Brittany shook her head in both disbelief and denial. "No, that's where Dots come from."

"Makes sense." Santana said taking a handful of popcorn. No further discussion, no mocking look, or derisive laughter. She played into what Brittany was saying; if Brittany hadn't fallen for her after the song she'd written for Brittany, she'd have definitely fallen now.

Kelly had to laugh. "She really just played into the whole thing?"

"YES! I was … I was almost speechless, Kelly. I mean, do you know how many times I've said that out loud and people only laugh or just look at me like I'm weird. She actually THOUGHT about it and asked questions and just accepted what I said. It. Was. AWESOME!"

Kelly laughed again. Yeah, she could see it; the Latina had definitely captured the blonde's heart.

"So. Then what happened?"

Brittany sighed happily. "I promised her that we'd take things at her pace. I really wanted to hold her hand but I didn't want to … I dunno, spook her? So I lifted the arm rest and I linked our pinkies. I gave it a little squeeze and she squeezed back! Then, after the movie, she actually slipped her hand into mine. Best. Feeling. Ever. We decided to get ice cream but she looked a little cold so I gave her my blazer.

"We got ice cream, walked around for a bit, and then I walked her home. I'd joked with her roommate that I'd have her home by midnight so I figured that was a good time to end the date. Keep me in good with the bestie." Brittany giggled.

Kelly laughed along with her. She really liked Brittany and was glad that she was happy. Not that she'd been unhappy before but … Santana really made her even happier; brighter, somehow.

"So, you walked her home …" Kelly led Brittany.

"Yeah." The blonde's face flushed a deep crimson.

When they got there Brittany looked at Santana. She really, really wanted to kiss her goodnight.

"I had a really great time tonight, Santana. I hope you'll want to go out with me again?"

Santana nodded. "It was amazing, Brittany. Thank you." Brittany noticed Santana's eyes flit to her lips.

Brittany's eyes flickered between Santana's lips and her eyes. She decided to … take a chance. She leaned in and place her forehead against Santana's.

"I'm going to kiss you now … unless you tell me not to." She whispered to the Latina.

Santana's eyes fluttered closed in response and Brittany took that as acquiescence. The kiss was so soft and sweet; their lips fit together perfectly. Brittany didn't try to use tongue; too soon for that. The kiss wasn't wet or sloppy or awkward. She was surprised it was Santana's first. It was perfect.

When they pulled apart, Santana bit her lower lip and ducked her head, blushing furiously.

"Was that okay?" Brittany asked softly.

Santana looked up and Brittany felt like she could drown in those beautiful chocolate eyes. "Perfect. This whole night … Brittany … I … in all my dreams and imaginings of what my first date and first kiss would be like … they didn't even come close to how amazing this has been. Thank you."

Brittany beamed at the her. "Really? So … maybe … we can do this again?"

Santana nodded. "I'd really like that."

"Good." She leaned forward and kissed Santana on the cheek. "I'll talk to you soon?"

"Text me when you get home so I know you got there safely?"

"Yeah. I will." Brittany smiled again then turned and practically danced down the stairs and out into the night.

"Sounds like she enjoyed herself as much as you did. Especially since she did ask you over for tomorrow." Kelly was happy for her friend.

"Yeah," Brittany said dreamily, standing up and stretching. "I'm headed to bed. See you tomorrow."

Kelly watched as Brittany danced down the hall. Yeah. That girl was definitely in love.

Brittany POV

Brittany got ready for bed and slipped between her sheets. Heaven, she thought, this must be what heaven feels like.

Santana had enjoyed herself. Santana had let Brittany kiss her. Santana asked her over tomorrow for lunch and a movie. Santana … Santana … Santana …

Her every thought was centered around Santana. She wanted to call her and talk to her. She wanted to text her. She wanted to be with her. Brittany sighed.

She was in love. Totally, completely, stupidly, amazingly in love. With a beautiful Latina angel who really seemed to like her.

She drifted off to sleep with hope in her heart and a smile on her face.
