Summary:
We have something to celebrate
Summary: Still enjoying their honeymoon in marital bliss, Colin and Penelope obtain a good news worth to celebrate for.
The night just came and both Colin and Penelope were all set to sleep but they decided to have a small reading session just before getting to their dreams. The room was dimly lit in candlelight and they each had one close light to their bed tables to read. While Penelope was reading her book, she could not resist smiling. Colin had not noticed her behaviour yet being too concentrated in his own book. He was reading a novel about the landscapes of Greece, one he had bought when he was over there. Pen was reading a romance, obviously, and was unable to complete one sentence in her own dreamy state.
The sides of the book covering her face half, she was able to hide her expression. Noticing that she was very silent with no sound of pages turning from her book for almost more than ten minutes, Colin turned to look at her. He then noticed that she was hiding her face with the book. Curious whether she was hiding or concentrating he removed the book from her face and she immediately stopped smiling.
"What're you doing, Pen?" his voice gentle, trying to figure out what she was up to as she was still on the prologue of the book. She contained herself and with a serious face lifted her gaze to look back at Colin and replied "Nothing. I am doing nothing." A smile started to curve her lips and she hid it quickly before Colin noticed it.
"Exactly. Why are you doing nothing, you were supposed to read, right?" Colin's voice was soft but filled with curiosity as he studied her face. "Yes, I will read now, I promise." Pen quickly put the book on her face like it was before so she could let out the huge smile she was concealing. Colin looked at her hidden face behind the covers of her book and went back to his book, still curious about his wife's behaviour. After turning two pages while pretending to read, Penelope put her book down and finally decided to make a move which will explain the reason behind her behaviour and also because she was unable to wait anymore.
She let out her right hand which was closer to her and placed it on his left hand laying on his stomach. "Colin…" Her voice was calm but loud making sure he would hear her. Colin immediately dropped down his right hand, still grasping his book and turned to look back at Pen. "What is it?" His tone was relaxed as he inquired looking at her calmly. She slowly sat in the centre of the bed, approaching him.
Pen's face was serious and she pressed her lips before speaking. "I…I have something to tell you." Her expression was still serious and she held Colin's gaze. Colin became suddenly worried, his voice growing louder and concerned as his eyes studied her with panic. "Pen…what's wrong? Are you alright?"
Penelope nodded. "I am alright Colin, in fact more than alright." Colin was confused by her words as he furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean?" He was trying to figure out what she meant but he couldn't find an answer.
Penelope held Colin's hand and brought it to her stomach placing his palm on her. "I am with child, Colin. You are going to be a father." With that added, she let out the huge smile she had been hiding for so long and let her exceeding happiness overcome her face. Colin looked at her stunned for a while then he sat up on the bed and immediately closed his book to place it quickly on his bed table and turned to look back and forth to her face and her stomach. "Are you serious? Are you…you are…I am…" Colin's expression grew from serious to elated. His face lit up with a smile as bright as the sun. "Oh god, Pen!" He approached his wife and took both of her hands in his, smiling glowingly at her.
He then placed both his palms on her stomach and looked at her fondly while Pen smiled at him, nodding. Colin leaned forward and placed a warm soft kiss on her lips. One kiss then two then more than he could count. Penelope smiled radiantly and giggled through the kisses her husband was showering on her, while hugging him affectionately.
Drawing back, Colin gazed in her eyes affectionately as his own welled up in tears. He brushed a strand that was hiding part of her eye. "You have made me the happiest man ever, Pen. You cannot imagine how happy I am." His voice was trembling and he leaned forward to place a warm kiss on her forehead as she closed her eyes.
"This is why I was unable to read anything. I was so happy upon hearing the news and I wanted so much to tell you about it I was thus unable to contain my happiness." Colin smiled mischievously. "Oh so this is what it was. Hmmmm?" He then kissed her teasingly in her neck, while they both giggled. "Colin!" Penelope complained even if she was loving what Colin was doing to her.
Colin then kissed her passionately made her sit on his lap, holding on to her tightly. Looking down at him she added "Colin, I'm so happy. I cannot wait to bring our child into this world." Her voice crackled and she let out silent tears rolling on her cheeks. Colin grabbed her face with both his hands and nodded, wiping her tears with his thumbs as he looked up at her. "I cannot wait to see our child too. I am so happy Pen, so happy." He leaned his forehead to hers. "You cannot imagine how much I have been dreaming of a family with you, Pen. Now that you have given me this news, it's like you are fulfilling every one of my dreams." Warm tears also spilled on Colin's face as he smiled. "Oh Colin." Pen lifted her hands to wipe away the tears on his face.
Both were so elated and bursting with happiness that tears of joy were flowing out. "You're going to be the best father, Colin, I am sure of that." Colin smiled warmly at her. "And you, the best mother." He leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss on her lips. "You are already the best wife."
Pen smiled. "Really?!" Her voice was soft and teasing. She giggled as Colin smiled warmly at her, his eyes sparkling up with joy. "I discovered the good news just today and of course I could not wait to tell you right after finding out."
"When?" They were both still in each other's arms as they conversed, not eager to let go so soon. Her arms were wrapped around him while he continued to hold onto her tightly with both hands, once in a while tracing lines on her back with his fingers.
Pen continued, "Just when you were in your study this afternoon, I was not well and Rae suspected and had called the physician. I was in the bed chamber near the drawing room since I was sick just a while after tea time. That happened just when you came up, this is why you were not aware of his presence or my sickness. Rae was already doubting for a few days since she knew the signs. Remember how I was having nausea and the few times I threw up my food?" Colin remembered and nodded to Pen. "Yes! Yes, I remember. I was quite worried about you that you might be quite sick but then you would become totally fine the next moment so we did not bother calling the physician assuming it was nothing alarming."
Penelope nodded. "I know. This is why I would get well because it's not an actual sickness. It was not now that it started, it had been going on for a while that I was feeling an upset stomach but it's only until recently that I started to throw up and this afternoon I have felt severe nausea. When the physician told me about being with child I could not believe it, Colin." Penelope cupped his face and gazed in his eyes, her lips trembling. "There's nothing more I want. Nothing more than starting a family with you. I can't believe it's actually happening." She caressed his cheeks with her thumb tenderly.
Looking up at her, Colin beamed. "Pen, I hope it's not the last good news we will have. I want to have loads of children with you. Loads!" Pen's eyes widened softly, and upon noticing that Colin smiled widely and chuckled. "I know it's no easy task but I will be there with you, to hold your hand, to stand by you, to look after our children with you. Always." Colin offered her a warm smile that made her heart melt. Pen leaned down and pressed a kiss tenderly on his lips. "I know. I know you will." They shared a tender and warm kiss and Colin proceeded to kiss the whole of her neck whispering lots of 'I love you' all the while. "I love you too" Penelope's tone reflected the happiness and gratefulness she felt of having Colin by her side.
He then proceeded to kiss her belly deeply. Penelope gripped on his hair and shoulder to hold herself. She then leaned down to face him and kissed him fervently with all her might grabbing on his curls tenderly. They both smiled before the kiss ended and she could feel Colin smiling into her lips before opening her eyes.
"I'm so glad you're happy." She then pressed a soft kiss on Colin's forehead before getting off his lap. "Shall we sleep? Although, I don't feel I will be able to sleep because my insides are bursting with happiness but I have to." Penelope giggled and Colin smiled at her then realised that she had been sick and proceeded to ask her. "Are you better now, Pen? Are you still feeling nauseous?"
She shook her head "No. I am much better though I cannot say what can happen anytime. The physician mentioned that this will happen regularly and I will get used to it. He also provided a list of diets I should follow to avoid eating or eat more. Rae will follow them with me." Colin nodded and realised she required rest since she was not well and it was also beneficial in her current state. "I shall also look into it with you. Shall we sleep for now? I don't want you to get sick for missing sleep." Penelope nodded and they both laid back, Penelope placed her arm on Colin's chest resting her head on his left shoulder as he wrapped his left arm around her.
"Colin." Her voice was low as she was feeling a bit sleepy. "Hmmm?"
"I can't believe we're going to be parents, I am so excited and overjoyed, I'm thrilled you are happy as well." Pen said while looking up at him and Colin gazed back at her. "Pen, there is nothing else that could make me happier." Colin placed a palm on her hand that was wrapped around his chest. "You do know that I love you right?" Pen smiled back at him in response and nodded. Colin then pursued looking about the room smiling "In fact, I will not be happy with only one. I want one daughter that looks like you, one daughter that is as clever as you, one son that is as strong as you, one son that is brave as you and…"
"Colin!" Penelope got slightly up from his chest to look at him right in the eye. "You do know it is me who will have to bear them, right?" Colin laughed and Penelope laughed back. "Yes, I know but I want them to look like you and I want to have a big happy family with you, Pen." Penelope lifted her hand and placed it on his cheek and kissed his lips. "I know, I do too, Colin. I also want a big happy family by your side but it would only be fair when some children will look like you." She moved her fingers to what she was describing. "Your majestic smile, your pretty brown silky hair, your memorable laugh, your notable kindness, your immense care and so much more." Colin gave her a shy and proud smile. She placed her head back on his shoulder and they both gradually fell asleep dreaming about their future family together.
It was two days after Penelope had announced Colin of her big news of being with child but he still felt overjoyed as though he had just been told of the news. Everytime his thought wandered he would imagine himself and Penelope surrounded with their children. The same could be said about Penelope. They had not yet informed their family, they did not wish to even go anywhere else, they were too busy being by themselves. Both decided to inform their family after some days as they were not ready to expect visitors just yet or perhaps they would inform them to not visit at this time.
Colin and Penelope just had dinner and Penelope was taking some fresh air by the window in the room beside her bedchamber. She was staring at the night sky lost in her thoughts when Colin found her. Colin approached her and hugged her from behind after placing a soft peck on her neck. Penelope placed her palms back on his hands and leaned her head back on his chest. They both contemplated the sky in the fresh air.
"What are you thinking, Pen?" "I'm thinking of us, of our future together. I've not stopped thinking about it since I heard the news of our child, Colin."
"Really?" Colin was taken aback as Penelope was saying what was in his own mind. She turned around to face him and nodded. "Pen, it is exactly what I have been having in my thoughts as well, ever since you told me about it." Pen beamed at him and added "You know how much I love you, I will love our children even more." Pen smiled at Colin "I cannot wait to tell our family the good news." Colin then smirked "Ummm not just yet. I do not want them to come and disturb us." They both laughed then Colin's voice became deep as he added "We have not even celebrated yet." He leaned down to kiss her. The kiss started as soft then became hot and fiery as both deepened the kiss with passion and love.
Penelope was wearing an elegant silk light purple nightgown and looked radiant by the candlelight and Colin was smitten by her attire. He kept peeking at her as they were breaking the kiss. They kissed until they moved to their bedchamber and made love there.
Colin went to place himself beside her after placing a tender kiss on her lips. He took her hand by his side and brought it up to place a kiss on her palm. They then both turned their body to face each other. "Pen, promise we'll always be together like this. We'll never be apart." Penelope gave him a soft smile and replied "Never. I promise we'll always be together, Colin. This is what I also desire."
"Shall we sleep, my beautiful wife?" Penelope nodded and Colin fetched the blanket to cover them both. They blew off the candles and got back to their position and snuggled. "Good night future mother." Colin said with a soft voice. Penelope smiled and added "Good night future best father." Colin smiled and pressed a kiss on her forehead
