Chapter 5
Shippo, equally pleased to see Sango, wagged his tail excitedly.
"Sango, good to see you!" Shippo exclaimed, running up to her. "We missed you!"
Sango smiled at their warm greetings, a sense of comfort settling over her at the sight of their familiar faces. She crouched down to pet Shippo on the head, her expression fond.
"It's good to see all of you too," Sango replied. "I've missed you as well, Shippo!"
Ranma's suspicion eased a bit at the warm exchange between Sango and the other group members. He could sense a history among them that he wasn't privy to, but he didn't press the matter for now.
Curiosity piqued, Ranma couldn't help but ask a question. He crossed his arms and gave Sango a somewhat pointed look.
"So, what's this about an evil demon you're hunting?" Ranma asked.
Sango's expression darkened as she was reminded of her quest.
"It's a powerful demon called Naraku," Sango explained. "He's caused a lot of suffering and pain for many people, and I've sworn to put an end to his reign of terror."
Ranma nodded, his interest piqued by Sango's determination. It was rare to encounter someone with such a clear goal and unwavering resolve.
"Sounds like you've got quite the challenge ahead of you," Ranma said, a hint of respect in his voice.
Sango's eyes hardened with determination, her voice laced with a quiet intensity.
"Yes, it's been a long and difficult journey," Sango admitted. "But I won't rest until I've brought Naraku to justice. He won't continue to terrify innocent people any longer!"
Inuyasha, overhearing Sango's words, couldn't help but admire her determination. He understood the fire that burned within her - he had a similar one himself.
"Sounds like you and I have something in common," InuYasha grunted, a hint of respect in his words.
Sango met Inuyasha's gaze, a hint of understanding in her eyes. She could see the same determination and fire burning in his gaze - they were both fighters, both driven by a shared purpose.
"It seems we do," Sango replied, a respectful nod in Inuyasha's direction. "We're both fighting for what we believe in."
Ranma's respect for Sango grew as he observed their brief exchange. He could sense the connection between them, a bond formed by a shared struggle and a mutual drive to protect others.
With a hint of appreciation, Ranma raised an eyebrow at Sango.
"You sound like you have some experience with fighting demons," Ranma commented, his curiosity piqued.
Sango nodded in acknowledgment.
"I do," Sango said. "My village was destroyed by an onslaught of demons, and I've trained for years to become a demon slayer. I've fought my fair share of evil beings and have learned a lot along the way."
Ranma's expression softened as he mentioned Ukyo.
"You remind me of a girl I know," Ranma said, his voice tinged with a hint of nostalgia. "Ukyo. She's a skilled fighter and a good friend. She has a similar drive and determination to you."
Sango's curiosity was piqued as Ranma mentioned his friend Ukyo. She could sense the fondness in his voice and the bond they shared.
"Ukyo, huh?" Sango mused. "She sounds like quite the fierce warrior herself."
Ranma winced at Sango's pointed question, feeling a pang of guilt at the memory. He knew bringing up Ukyo would inevitably lead to this type of discussion.
"Yeah, that's her," Ranma admitted, his voice a bit reluctant. "We were engaged for a while, but that was a long time ago. Things are...different now."
Inuyasha couldn't help but interject, a hint of disbelief in his voice.
"Hold on, hold on," InuYasha interjected. "You were engaged to this Ukyo chick, but now you're with Akane? And Shampoo's pining for you too? Damn, Ranma. Three girls interested in you at once, tsk.. Lucky you."
Ranma rolled his eyes, an exasperated expression crossing his face. He was used to Inuyasha's commentary, but it didn't make it any less annoying.
"Yeah, yeah, lucky me," Ranma said sarcastically. "It's not as great as it sounds, trust me. Dealing with all these girls is a headache."
Happosai, being the perverted old man that he is, can't help but interject into the conversation with a perverted comment.
"Oho, my boy Ranma, you're quite the Casanova! Three lovely women vying for your affections. Aren't you a lucky devil?" Happosai said.
Ranma groaned at Happosai's comment, his annoyance growing. He could never escape Happosai's perverted commentary, it seemed.
"Please, Happosai, for once in your life could you not think of everything in terms of women and romance?" Ranma complained.
Inuyasha, Kagome, Shippo, and Sango turned their attention to Happosai, their expressions varying mixtures of confusion and intrigue. They hadn't seen this old man before, and his sudden appearance had caught them off guard.
"Who's the old guy...?" Inuyasha grumbled, eyeing Happosai skeptically.
Sango, too, was taken aback by Happosai's presence. She eyed the old man with a mixture of curiosity and wariness, taking in his eccentric appearance and leering expression.
Happosai, sensing all the eyes on him, puffed out his chest proudly. He gave a mischievous chuckle and a sly grin.
"Ah, that's right, you don't know me yet. I'm Happosai, the greatest and most powerful martial artist in the world!" Happosai says.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes at Happosai's grand claim.
"Greatest and most powerful, huh? You don't look all that impressive to me. Just an old geezer with a weird hairstyle." InuYasha says.
Happosai feigned offense at Inuyasha's comment, placing a hand on his chest in a melodramatic gesture.
"How dare you disrespect your elders!" Happosai exclaimed. "I may look like a harmless old man, but I am not to be underestimated. My skills are beyond your comprehension, young pup." Happosai said.
Ranma, used to Happosai's overblown tales, suppressed a snort of amusement at the old man's boastful display. He knew full well just how powerful Happosai could be, but it was still entertaining to watch him preen like a peacock.
Happosai continued his theatrical monologue, enjoying the attention he was receiving.
"I've trained for centuries and honed my skills to perfection," Happosai boasted. "I've mastered every fighting style and technique known to man. I could defeat any opponent with a single tap of my finger!"
Inuyasha couldn't help but scoff at Happosai's boastful claims.
"Ha! A single tap? I'd like to see you try that against some of the demons I've faced." InuYasha said.
Happosai smirked, undeterred by Inuyasha's skepticism.
"Oh, you underestimate me, boy. Demons, humans, it makes no difference. My power is unmatched, and I can reduce them all to ashes with a snap of my fingers!" Happosai said.
Kagome, ever the voice of politeness, took it upon herself to introduce their group to Happosai.
"Hello, Happosai! My name is Kagome, and these are my companions," Kagome smiled, gesturing to Inuyasha, Sango, Shippo, and herself in turn. "It's nice to meet you."
Happosai's eyes widened as he took in the sight of the beautiful Kagome, his lecherous nature coming to the forefront.
"Well, well, well," Happosai said, ogling her from head to toe. "What do we have here? Such a lovely young lady. I've never seen someone quite as pretty as you before."
Inuyasha bristled at Happosai's suggestive gaze, his protective instincts kicking in. He stepped in front of Kagome, acting as a shield between her and Happosai.
"Back off, old man," InuYasha warned, his voice low and menacing. "You won't be laying a finger on her!"
Happosai pouted at Inuyasha's interference, clearly annoyed by his protective behavior.
"Oh, come now, boy," Happosai said, trying to sound charming. "I'm just admiring the view. Can you blame me for appreciating a lovely flower like her?"
Inuyasha clenched his fists, trying to rein in his anger.
"Don't play coy with me, you perv," InuYasha retorted. "I know exactly what you're thinking. And let me make this clear: You're not going near her!"
Happosai couldn't resist provoking Inuyasha further, a sly grin spreading across his face.
"Oh, and what are you going to do about it, eh? Are you gonna fight me for her?" Happosai taunted, a hint of challenge in his tone.
Ranma rolled his eyes at Happosai's provocative behavior. He knew how the old man loved to stir up trouble, and he didn't want this situation to escalate into a fight.
"Knock it off, Happosai," Ranma said firmly. "You're not gonna start a fight over Kagome. Step off."
Happosai pouted petulantly at Ranma's intervention, disappointed that his attempts to rile up Inuyasha had been thwarted.
"Fine, spoilsport," Happosai grumbled. "You're no fun, you know that?"
