Found
Sometime later
She gasped for air as her body violently reminded her that she was still alive, she had expected to see the endless rolls of the sleeper pods that were no different from the one that she had entered.
Unfortunately, that wasn't what she found herself looking at when her eyes finally answered her, and she could open them again.
"Relax you are safe in our ship's medical wing," a woman who she does recognize says to her, she is wearing the familiar clothes of a nurse, and she has no idea how long she has been in stasis so she doesn't bother saying anything yet.
"Where am I?" she somehow manages to ask the woman who continues to smile at her warmly.
The woman's smile doesn't vanish nor shrink instead it seems to grow as if the very thought of where they were was enough to fill her with pride.
"You are in a ship of the First Found. I didn't say the name because let's be honest you don't care about its name." the nurse or doctor says to her before the bed moves and gently lowers her to the floor.
The cold sensation of the metal sends shivers through the soles of her feet and up her spine, it's only now that she realizes that she isn't wearing anything and that there are dozens of people looking at her through a window.
She tries to use her hands to cover herself but before she can do so she finds the doctor \ nurse handing her a thick red robe.
"You must be surprised because so many people are looking at you but trust me, the surprises aren't going to end." the doctor says before a screen next to her begins to play a video.
"First let's get why we call ourselves the first Found." she says as the video shows a massive ship drifting through space.
She recognizes its design, it's one of the colony ships, one of the ones that were supposed to allow people to stay awake and live their lives while heading towards the new world where they could start their lives away from Earth and its influence.
This revelation filled her with fear because generational ships like the one that was on screen were supposed to exist until much later and her ship the one that she should have been sleeping in didn't have the capability of supporting life beyond what was needed to keep it in working condition.
"These are Ainctradians." the image of three different men wearing what looked like knight armor appeared on the screen. Their images were quickly replaced by a size comparison between the men's ships and what she could only assume was the ship that she was in.
The screen turns off and the doctor stands in front of her making sure that her focus is on her and her alone.
"They look Human but they aren't. I'll save you the details but in exchange for letting them place a beacon on us they agreed to fix the ship for us."
"It just turns out that the beacon is so strong that it allowed us to find ships that have been lost for years and believe it or not but we can communicate with each other with it."
The doctor looks up and takes what she would have believed was a dramatic breath, but the woman's actions are too smooth and unpracticed. It's clear to her that the person in front of her truly believes what she is saying.
"The armor that they used to fix our ships is stronger than anything we have and it's nearly impossible for us to dent it, so scratching it and cutting it is impossible."
The screen turns on and the images of three fleets that are made of ships of various sizes appear behind the doctor.
"These are the found, or the fleets."
"Look a lot of the colony ships were damaged or lost but when we found them we had no way of getting to them much less repairing them."
"Then one day when the Aincradians visited us to see if the beacon was working someone asked them if they could help with that."
"They gave us three conditions."
"We can't attack anyone, but we can defend ourselves. We can't force anyone to stay, but they can't force us to help them either. And finally, we had to share everything with Earth."
That last part filled her with fear, if the Earth knew about all of this then it was just a matter of time before those power-hungry monsters tried to take everything for themselves.
"Relax Earth still doesn't have the means of reaching us anytime soon and we ant reach them or the colonies for months or years' the doctor says to her as the screen changes again showing the Aien ships tearing a hole in space before going through it and disappearing.
She can only watch as seconds later each of them returns with a different colony ship that is being pulled by some sort of energy beam through another portal that tore itself open in space.
The entire thing was so amazing that it took her longer than it should have to realize that one of those ships was her own.
"Why are there three fleets?" she asks the doctor.
"Oh, not everyone wanted to join us as they had their destinations, and not every ship was damaged, so they stayed separate from us."
"And it made sense to take the damaged colony ships to the nearest generation ship. The Aincradians did that, and that's how the fleets were formed." the doctor finishes her explanation.
The walls around her begin to moe and she nearly falls to her knees when she sees the room open to a massive ship that's filled with casinos, plants, restaurants, and all-matter of technologies that she has never seen before.
What shakes her even more are the people who seem to be going about their lives as if nothing, it's as if they didn't care that they were inside a ship that in her time was but a dream.
"Our guidance counselors will help you adjust if your captain agrees to join the fleet but if he doesn't then you can go on your way." the doctor says to her.
"You said that there were colonies, can we go there?" she asks the doctor, and doesn't care how shaken her voice sounds.
"Yes, but I don't recommend it. The Empire, Earth, the Found, and the Colonies are on shaky ground because now that we can communicate everyone is trying to get as much as they can before everyone else." the doctor answers her.
