Ruby stood in the hallway, pacing back and forth. She had spent the last two weeks thinking about how much fun—and terror—her multiversal adventures had brought her. It wasn't enough to just explore the unknown anymore. She wanted to share the experience with someone. Someone she trusted. Someone who could handle it.
Her eyes lit up as Weiss rounded the corner. Perfect.
"Weiss!" Ruby called, bounding toward her teammate with an infectious grin.
Weiss, holding a clipboard and clearly in the middle of something, raised an eyebrow. "What is it, Ruby? I'm busy."
Ruby skidded to a halt in front of her, practically vibrating with excitement. "Do you want to know a secret?"
Weiss blinked, her suspicious instincts kicking in almost immediately. "A secret?"
Ruby nodded, leaning in conspiratorially. "A big secret. One that only I know. Well, okay, and Ozpin. But mostly just me."
Weiss narrowed her eyes. "Is this another one of your harebrained schemes? Because if it is, I want no part of—"
"It's not a scheme!" Ruby cut her off, grabbing her arm. "Just trust me for once! Please?"
Weiss hesitated, her gaze scrutinizing Ruby's earnest expression. Finally, with a sigh, she relented. "Fine. But this had better not involve paint, glitter, or anything that requires me to clean up after you."
"Yay!" Ruby cheered, immediately dragging Weiss toward the elevator.
As the elevator doors closed and they began their descent, Weiss's suspicion grew. The ride felt longer than usual, and Ruby's jittery excitement wasn't helping.
"Alright," Weiss said, crossing her arms. "Where exactly are we going? And why do I feel like I've made a mistake?"
Ruby grinned, bouncing on the balls of her feet. "Don't worry, Weiss. All will be revealed in… thirty seconds!"
Weiss frowned, tapping her foot impatiently. "Ruby. What. Are. You. Doing?"
"You'll see," Ruby replied, her voice singsong.
The elevator finally dinged, and the doors slid open to reveal the sprawling, high-tech multiversal lab. The glowing equipment, endless monitors, and strange, humming devices filled the room with an air of mystery. Weiss's mouth opened slightly in surprise as she took in the sight.
Ozpin, who had been reviewing data on a nearby console, turned to greet Ruby. His usual calm demeanor faltered when he noticed Weiss standing beside her.
"Ruby," Ozpin said, his tone sharp. "Why have you brought another person here? You know how dangerous it is for others to learn about this place."
Weiss looked between Ruby and Ozpin, her suspicion deepening. "What are you two talking about? What is this place?"
Ruby stepped forward, waving off Ozpin's concern. "Relax, Oz. I know the rules. But c'mon, you didn't seriously think I'd keep all this fun to myself forever, did you?"
Ozpin raised an eyebrow. "Ruby…"
Before he could continue, Ruby turned to Weiss, her grin widening. "Okay, Weiss. You ready for this?"
Weiss crossed her arms, clearly unimpressed. "That depends entirely on what this is."
Ruby threw her arms out dramatically. "The multiverse exists!"
Weiss blinked. "Excuse me?"
Ruby pointed at the glowing machinery behind her. "This lab? It's a multiversal hub! One of, like, an infinite number across the multiverse! And it lets you travel between universes!"
Weiss stared at her, her expression blank. "…Is this a joke?"
"Nope," Ruby said, popping the "p."
Ozpin, pinching the bridge of his nose, stepped in. "It is not a joke, Miss Schnee. This lab is indeed what Ruby described—a hub for multiversal travel. However, its existence is highly classified. So far, only 26 universes are aware of these hubs."
Weiss's skepticism gave way to curiosity. She tilted her head, her interest clearly piqued. "So… this actually lets you travel between alternate universes?"
"Yup!" Ruby said proudly. "I've been to five of them already!"
Weiss raised an eyebrow. "And how exactly did you convince Ozpin to let you do this?"
Ozpin cleared his throat. "Let's just say Ruby has a… unique way of convincing people."
Ruby shrugged sheepishly. "I promised to be careful. Mostly."
Weiss turned back to Ruby. "What were these universes like?"
Ruby hesitated, her smile faltering slightly. "Well… most of them were really fun! But there was one bad one. Like, really bad. It kind of scared me, so I took a break for a while."
Ozpin nodded. "A wise decision."
"But!" Ruby continued, her energy returning. "I decided I'm ready to give it another shot! And this time, I thought… why not bring a friend? And there just so happens to be an extra multiversal watch thingy that lets two people travel together!"
Weiss stared at her, clearly processing everything she'd just heard. Ruby grinned, holding out one of the devices.
"So… what do you say?"
Weiss studied Ruby for a moment, her arms still crossed. Then, slowly, a small smirk tugged at the corner of her lips.
"Well," she said, her tone playful. "I suppose someone has to keep you out of trouble."
"Woohoo!" Ruby cheered, practically jumping with excitement. "This is gonna be awesome!"
Ozpin sighed, clearly resigned. "If you insist on doing this, Miss Schnee, I must remind you that discretion is paramount. No one else can know about this."
Weiss nodded. "Understood."
Ruby strapped the device onto Weiss's wrist, her grin never fading. "Alright, partner! Let's go explore the multiverse!"
As the two of them activated their devices, the room filled with a bright, swirling light. Weiss glanced at Ruby, her smirk widening slightly.
"This better be worth it, Rose."
"Oh, it will be," Ruby said confidently. "Trust me."
With that, the light engulfed them, and they vanished into the unknown.
