Albus watched Rose and Scorpius bicker with a bemused smile. "You two are like an old married couple. I don't know how you'll ever live happily ever after."
"Not everyone is lucky enough to have a sweet little girls like Farley, Al," Scorpius chuckled, glancing at Albus's girlfriend.
"Totally," Lily chimed in, rolling her eyes but grinning at the playful banter.
"Keep laughing, but you both are just as annoying as ever," Rose shot back, crossing her arms defiantly.
Scorpius smirked, leaning back in his chair. "That's because you're just as stubborn, Weasley. I'd almost feel sorry for Albus if he weren't my best mate."
"Oh, please. You're the one who's impossible to deal with. I'm just here to keep you in check," Rose retorted, a spark of mischief in her eyes.
"By the way, I'm late. Catch you later." Rose raised from her chair.
"Catch you later after finishing this pie." Scorpius said, glancing at Rose exiting from the great hall.
Rose heard a voice calling her at the corridors "Weasley!" Thalia Burke, who had been watching from a distance, had followed her. Now, her jealousy simmered just beneath the surface. "Weasley," she called, her voice dripping with disdain. "Happy to have Scorpius? You've really got a grip on him, don't you? I knew you were trying to bewitch him with all that bickering and yelling."
Rose shot her a mocking glance. "Really, Burke? Do you honestly think I flirt with him by arguing? At least I don't cling to him with those stupid smiles while he tells his silly little jokes."
The fierce glint in Rose's eyes made Thalia take a step back, but she quickly regained her composure. "Well, one day Scorpius will realize what the better choice is: a smart girl from a noble pureblood family or a know-it-all half-blood witch."
Rose clenched her fists, the anger boiling within her. She stormed away, heading towards the Black Lake for some peace and quiet.
"Fancy seeing you here, Weasley," came Scorpius's drawling voice from behind her.
"Not now, Malfoy," Rose snapped, irritation lacing her words.
"What's wrong? Is the famous Rose Weasley finally out of words?" he mocked, a hint of amusement in his tone.
"Shut up, Malfoy. Go have a nice chat with your girlfriend," she blurted out, her temper flaring.
Scorpius raised an eyebrow, unfazed. "That's exactly what I'm doing right now."
"Do I look like Thalia Burke to you?" Rose challenged, her voice rising.
"Maybe you should take a page from her book," he shot back, crossing his arms. "At least she knows how to play nice."
Before she could say more, Scorpius leaned in and pressed his lips against hers, catching Rose off guard. Shocked, she closed her eyes, feeling as if a thousand butterflies were fluttering in her chest. Scorpius's warm, strong body enveloped her, offering both protection and comfort.
After what felt like minutes—or perhaps hours—he pulled away, a teasing smile on his lips. "No more yelling, Weasley."
Scorpius gently took her arm, entwining his fingers with hers. "You're infuriating, Malfoy," she murmured, breathless and soft.
"And yet, here we are," he replied, his voice low and sincere.
Their unspoken feelings hung in the air between them, the earlier argument forgotten as they stood at the edge of the lake, lost in a moment that felt both familiar and entirely new.
The seventh year was coming to a close, and Lily couldn't resist asking Rose about how her family reacted when she finally told them about her relationship with Scorpius.
"So… how did your family take the news?" Lily asked, her eyes glinting with curiosity.
Rose sighed, rolling her eyes. "Well, Dad was a bit mad, obviously. Said something about Malfoy not being the son-in-law he dreamed of." She smirked. "Mum calmed him down, though. He'll come around... eventually."
Lily grinned. "And the Malfoys?"
"Completely fine. They were pleased actually," Rose said, a hint of surprise in her voice. "Even though I'm a half-blood, they didn't care."
"The future's looking clear then," Lily said, a bit wistfully. "I'll miss you both."
Rose smiled softly. "We'll miss you too, Lils. Just two more years, and you'll be done with all this."
Lily groaned, "Two more years of torture."
But it was more than just the end of the school year. The final Quidditch match of the season, and Albus and Scorpius's last ever at Hogwarts, was coming up. The Slytherin team, captained by none other than Scorpius, was ready to face off against Ravenclaw.
"I swear Scorpius is going to kill us," Albus grumbled one evening. "He's been unbearable at practice lately."
Rose raised an eyebrow, feigning shock. "You're just now realizing that? I've been saying this for years, Al."
Albus groaned. "He's been a nightmare—always pushing us harder, expecting us to win by thirty points at least."
Scorpius, appearing suddenly next to Rose, smirked. "Oh, talking about your favorite Slytherin again, Weasley? How flattering."
Rose shot him a withering glance. "We were just discussing how no one in their right mind would ever name a Slytherin their favorite."
Scorpius ignored her, turning to Albus. "Practice tomorrow at five sharp. We're not losing this one."
Albus muttered under his breath, "Thank Merlin this will be over soon."
"And girls, don't forget," Scorpius said, smirking, "wear something silver and green for the match."
"We haven't decided who we're supporting yet," Lily said defiantly.
Albus gave her an incredulous look. "Seriously? Your own brother is on the team!"
"And the future of professional Quidditch as well," Scorpius added with an arrogant grin.
Rose scoffed. "Could you be any more full of yourself?"
The day of the match came quickly, and the atmosphere was electric. The stands were packed, buzzing with excitement as Slytherin and Ravenclaw prepared for battle on the pitch. The sky was clear, the perfect weather for Quidditch.
Scorpius led his team with sharp focus, calling out instructions like a seasoned professional. The match was intense from the start—Ravenclaw putting up a fierce fight, but Slytherin's teamwork, honed under Scorpius's demanding leadership, shone through.
The game was neck and neck until Scorpius, diving to save a bludger, took a hard hit to the shoulder. The crowd gasped as he spun off course, nearly falling off his broom. But Scorpius, stubborn as ever, clung on, his face twisted in pain but refusing to back down.
Albus caught the Snitch moments later, securing Slytherin's victory. The stands erupted in cheers, though Albus, descending from the air, seemed more relieved than celebratory.
"That was brutal," he muttered to Scorpius as they touched down. "You okay?"
Scorpius grunted. "Fine. Just a scratch."
Later that evening, Rose found Scorpius by the lake. He was still in his Quidditch robes, dirt streaked across his face and hands.
"How's your shoulder?" Rose asked, a hint of concern lacing her voice.
She was by the black lake and Scorpius came to her in the evening after the match.
"Never better," Scorpius replied with a grin. "It's just a scratch. Though Madam Hawthorn did give me something disgusting as usual. I blame you for that, since you're the one who sent me to the hospital wing." He shot her a playful frown. "And now I'm starting to think you might actually care about me."
"In your dreams, Malfoy," Rose smirked. "I just sent you there to make sure you're still in one piece. If anyone's going to torture you, it's going to be me."
"Right," Scorpius winked, "as if I'd expect anything less."
"Lucky you didn't show up without your broom this time," Rose teased as she him. "Though you look like you wrestled a troll."
Scorpius grinned, wiping his face with the back of his hand. "Also with some mud, Weasley. Went to check on the Bowtruckles after the match."
Rose laughed, shaking her head. "You'll never change."
"Not entirely," Scorpius replied, smirking. He handed her a letter, his usual cockiness replaced with something more genuine. "Got this earlier."
Rose opened it, her eyes scanning the neat parchment.
Dear Mr. Malfoy,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to join Puddlemere United's Quidditch team as our new Keeper. We eagerly anticipate seeing your skills on the pitch as part of the Puddlemere legacy...
"Scorpius! This is amazing!" she exclaimed, looking up at him, beaming. "I knew you'd make it!"
He shrugged, though the grin tugging at his lips betrayed his excitement. "Well, it's not the Ministry, but it'll do."
Rose rolled her eyes, smiling. "Please, you'll be flying around the world while I'm stuck in some stuffy office."
Scorpius chuckled. "You, a secretary? For the Undersecretary no less. That's rich." He paused, his tone softening. "But I'm happy for you, Roe. You deserve it."
Rose blushed slightly. "Thanks, Malfoy."
There was a moment of silence before Scorpius nervously pulled out a small velvet box. "I, uh… got you something."
Rose raised an eyebrow, watching as he opened the box to reveal a delicate silver chain with a heart-shaped pendant, elongated to form an infinity symbol. The pendant glowed faintly, shimmering as Scorpius held it up.
"When I'm near, it lights up," Scorpius muttered awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Kind of like a… promise."
Rose stared at the necklace, touched by the gesture. "It's beautiful."
"Just… don't tell Al. He'll never let me live this down," Scorpius added with a smirk, trying to hide his nerves.
Rose grinned. "I think I'll keep this between us." She slipped the chain around her neck, the pendant glowing softly as it touched her skin.
Scorpius looked at her for a moment, his usual sarcasm fading, replaced by something warmer, something deeper. He stepped closer, his hand brushing against hers. Without thinking, Rose leaned in, their lips meeting in a soft, heart-melting kiss that spoke volumes of all the unsaid things between them.
When they finally pulled apart, Scorpius gave her a crooked smile. "So… still think I'm your least favorite Slytherin?"
Rose smirked. "Don't push it, Malfoy."
