Chapter 8: Danny Phantom in Juban:The Search for the Sailor Guardians III
Danny had spent the next hour searching the skies for the Sailor Guardians, however he found nothing.
There have been no accidents or monster attacks so far today...which is a good thing but he still hasn't found those girls and he has no idea about their civilian lives...or if they even have such a thing.
Now, he landed on the top of a building for a moment, needing to take a break from the search.
"I can't believe this. I have been searching for hours and nothing, absolutely nothing!.."He muttered, feeling frustrated.
Still, he had to keep looking.
"Hopefully this time will end a lot more differently than yesterday did..."He thought, hoping to find those girls and soon.
Suddenly, he felt a loud grumbling in his stomach and he groaned. He hasn't eaten anything in hours and was now feeling the effects.
He felt hungry enough to eat a horse.
"Oh man, I'm starving!..."He said, not liking this. "There has got to be something to eat around here..."He thought as he flew and landed in an alley.
He changed forms and tried to search for something edible.
GRLLLLLLL!
"I'm hungrier than I thought..."He thought, as he walked out and tried to find some place to eat.
Thanks to the necklace that Clockwork gave him, he can at least ask for directions and order something to eat. Also, he could now understand what people are saying to him and he can hopefully avoid a confrontation like the one from yesterday.
"Now, where can I get a bite to eat?..."He thought as he looked around.
He now could understand the Kanji on the signs, so he didn't have to risk confusing a restaurant for something else or risk walking into another gang or end up in some place he doesn't want to be.
"I doubt they have a Nasty Burger here but maybe at least something I can eat..."He said as he went to find something to snack on.
He soon spotted a gyoza stand in a nearby park, next to some benches, tables and shady trees.
"Finally! Food!..."He said, relieved as he can finally fill his stomach
Unfortunately, once he was there, he saw that he didn't have any cash on him.
"Oh man, I must have left my wallet back in that motel..."He muttered, hating this.
GRRLLLL
His stomach growled even more, and the ghost boy was getting annoyed by it.
"You're hungry, I get it! I better find some way to get cash and fast..."He muttered as he walked out and went to go find a private spot to hide and change forms, so he can fly back, get his stuff before someone enters that room and finds them, or he'll be stuck in Japan with no cash, no identification and a necklace that only translates foreign languages for a limited time a day.
Something he did NOT want to experience during his vacation.
"I better head back quick before something happens..."Danny thought as he looked for a spot to change forms.
The streets looked way too busy to "Go Ghost" unnoticed, so Danny decided to find a private spot in the park to turn into his alter ego.
Thankfully there weren't too many people at the park today, just a couple of families. The ghost boy figured it was the best place to transform. He headed for a secluded enough spot to do so.
"Finally, this place is more crowded than Amity Park..."He thought as he tried to hide behind some trees and peek around for cover.
Danny stopped and gasped when he saw who was by the trees, eating some food out of a lunchbox of some kind.
It's that tall girl who helped him... she was sitting at the bottom of the tree on a blanket and eating. She hasn't seen him yet.
"It's that girl from yesterday, the one who helped me against that group of thugs..."He thought, still unnoticed by her.
The ghost boy found himself taking a step back, feeling flushed.
He didn't understand why he felt like his mouth went dry but she was the first friendly face he encountered since he got to Japan.
Not to mention, she was still as pretty as he remembered and he still felt impressed by her courage and strength.
"Should I say something now that she and I can understand each other?..."He thought.
Danny moved his head a bit to get a look at her again. She hasn't seen him yet as she just kept eating. Despite being a little nervous and still needing to retrieve his stuff, Danny still wanted to talk to the girl and thank her for helping him yesterday.
"I should head back to the motel and get my stuff before someone finds it...but here she is... I should say something...but what should I say? I don't know her that well...still...she did help me out yesterday, I owe her a thank you and it be nice to learn her name..."He thought as he approached her.
However, he stepped on a twig, snapping it.
"Who's there?! What do you want?!..."The girl said in a harsh tone as she turned around to face him.
Danny flinched and stepped back a bit at that sharp tone, suddenly having second thoughts about talking to her but realizing there was no point in going now.
"Uh...Hi..."He said nervously while the girl calmed down a bit.
She recognized this boy as the foreigner tourist from yesterday and her expression softened a bit.
"Oh, it's you, that boy I met yesterday..."The girl said in a nicer voice.
Danny calmed down a bit and smiled nervously at the girl.
"Yeah...that's me..."He said sheepishly.
"It's nice to see you again, sorry for yelling..."The girl said, still smiling.
Danny sweated a bit as he cleared his throat.
"Uh, yeah...sorry about that, I didn't mean to scare you or anything..."Danny said, face turning a bit red.
"Oh where are my matters, my name is Kino Makoto..."She introduced
Danny remembered that in Japan, people introduce their surname before their own name, so he knew which part was the name she went by.
"It's nice to officially meet you, Makoto. My name is Danny Fenton..."He said with a smile.
Makoto smiled.
"Danny Fenton...that's an oddly nice name..."She thought, liking how that name rolled off her tongue.
"It's nice to meet you too, Fenton-san..."She said, smiling at him.
Danny found himself blushing a bit before taking a breath to calm himself down but realized that she called him by his surname.
"Uh...you can just call me Danny...uh...I'm an American and I used my own name first..."Danny explained sheepishly.
"Oh, sorry, I should have guessed..."Makoto said, blushing in embarrassment.
"For someone taller than me, she's kinda pretty..."The ghost boy thought, turning his eyes away.
He felt his heart suddenly beat faster, but did his best to calm his breathing to make it stop.
"So...uh...Makoto...thanks again for...you know..."He said, referring to what happened earlier with those thugs.
Makoto smiled at that.
"It's no big deal. I'm happy that I was able to help..."She said, being modest and and acting a bit shy.
Danny blinked.
Earlier, she managed to take down those big guys without even breaking a sweat and now she's acting bashful. The ghost boy couldn't help but think how the tall Japanese girl is a lot nicer than one would expect.
"Wow, Makoto is really nice and she's incredibly strong..."He thought, getting an impressed look on his face.
He found himself staring a moment too long at her...That is until something slightly humiliating happened.
GRLLL!
Danny's stomach began to growl again, loud enough for them to both here.
"Oh boy, I forgot how hungry I was...maybe she didn't notice..."Danny thought in embarrassment.
"Was that his stomach? He must be hungry..."Makoto thought.
The secret sailor guardian noticed that the ghost boy quickly glanced at her home cooked meal and she could already piece together what was going on.
She then got an idea.
She didn't mind sharing her meal with someone new, that's how she and Usagi became friends in the first place. Plus, he seemed nice and she was never one to turn away a friendly face before, especially if it's someone who didn't misjudge her for her tall appearance.
"So Danny, care to join me for lunch?..."Makoto offered as she offered a spot on her blanket.
Danny smiled.
He was hungry and still had no money on him...sure, it was kinda awkward but she offered...plus, he is starving and she is doing this to be nice. He also saw it as a means of getting to know this girl.
"Sure..."He said as he took a seat.
He got another whiff of the food and his mouth was practically salivating at it, even if he's unfamiliar with some of what she had.
Makoto noticed this and held up her box to him.
"Would you like to have some?..."Makoto said as she offered him some rice balls, sushi and fried shrimp, a classic Japanese lunch.
"Sure, thanks..."Danny said as he grabbed one.
He took a bite out of one and paused for a moment as he registered the flavor. Once he did, he began to moan in delight at how delicious it was.
"Mmm...wow..."He said, feeling like he had just tasted something rich and flavorful as he kept eating the delicious lunch.
"This Japanese food is out of this world!..."He thought as he continued to eat.
Makoto saw this reaction and giggled.
"Wow, deja vu. He's starting to act kinda like Usagi did, except he's not scarfing it down and making a mess..."Makoto thought in amusement as the boy kept eating the home made rice ball with delight.
Danny swallowed the food and smiled.
"Makoto, this is probably the best food I've ever tasted. You gotta tell me where you bought this stuff?..."Danny said, surprised and a little eager to know where he can get more.
Makoto blushed at that. She knew that she's a good cook but still, it's nice to hear a boy compliment her cooking without knowing it.
"Actually, I made all this myself..."She admitted, surprising Danny.
"Really, that's seriously amazing. This stuff is even better than my mom's cooking... I hope you never let anyone hear that..."He said before taking another bite.
Makoto smiled, happy to heard that this boy from America really liked her cooking. It even brought a small grin to appear on her face and it boosted her confidence in her cooking skills.
"I'm glad that you like it, Danny-kun..."Makoto said as she was starting to feel much more comfortable around Danny.
"Hmm? What did you call me?..."He asked.
"Danny-kun. Sorry, but adding that last part is a thing we do here in Japan with a boy we know. Is that okay?..." She asks.
"Huh... sure..." Danny said, much to her relief.
Danny didn't know why, but he suddenly felt a lot more comfortable around Makoto Kino too. He wasn't sure if it was because she had his back yesterday or the fact that she's being nice to him, despite being a stranger when they first met or that she really pretty and had a lot of delicious food . He simply didn't question it, he just was grateful for the food and enjoyed his time with her.
The two teens continued to eat together and Danny felt better as he both made a new friend and also no longer felt so hungry.
Meanwhile
Usagi and Chibi-Usa, along with Luna, had left her house. Since there was no school today, Usagi wanted to go to shopping and also go to arcade and goof off but since her dad was at work, Shingo was at a friends house and her mother had to go shopping, she was assigned to babysit Chibi-Usa again, despite really wanting to have a day to herself and maybe find her friends to goof off with.
"Come on, today's a new day. The sun in shining, there's nothing to do and I'm off from school. It's the perfect time to have some fun!..."Usagi said, hoping to be able to get a day off of be Sailor Moon and just act like a regular teenager
"Usagi, shouldn't we be investigating that mysterious new force that just pop up out of nowhere yesterday?..."Luna reminded as she walked on all fours.
"She's right Usagi, that presence felt like something that I've never seen before. So it's just not safe to simply ignore it..."Chibiusa added.
Usagi brushed it off and felt that they were overreacting, seeing as that presence do anything wrong in the first place.
"Hey, no one got hurt yesterday...if anything, whoever or whatever that thing was, it doesn't change the fact they saved everyone in that fire..."Usagi reminded.
"True but we don't know for sure whether or not that it wasn't the cause of the fire in the first place or what it's true objective really is. Either we need to stay vigilant..."The cat said.
Usagi sighed at this.
"You're such a worry-wart Luna, we can't be the only ones out there doing good for the world. Now, let's go have some fun today for a change of pace, we deserve it..."Usagi insisted.
The cat and the pink haired child both sighed and semi-reluctantly followed the blonde bun haired girl's lead.
The trio had walked pass the park...they would have walked passed it complete due to being almost empty but Usagi saw something that made her stop in place.
"Oh my gosh!..."Usagi exclaimed, getting attention from the other two.
"What is it?!..."Luna asked in a panic.
"Is it that mysterious being from yesterday?..."Chibi-usa asked, nervous.
"What? No...Look..."Usagi said as she pointed up ahead.
The cat and the pink haired child soon looked in the direction where she was pointing. They soon saw that there was no emergency.
They saw Makoto was there, eating lunch under a shady tree...with a boy?
"Wait, am I seeing this right? Or is our Mako-chan really having lunch with that boy?..."Luna thought.
"Hold on, who is that? I never seen or heard of him before. I don't even think he goes to their school..."Chibiusa thought while a blonde sailor guardian began to get a starry look in her eyes as she stared at her tallest best friend.
"Oh my...looks like Mako-chan finally found herself a boyfriend!.."Usagi said with a giggle, thinking they were having a picnic date in the park.
Luna and Chibi-Usa both were a little shocked at what they were seeing, but then thought that there had to be a different explanation.
The secret leader of the Sailor Guardians, however, seemed to have convinced herself her tall bestie's love life was fulfilled.
"Usagi, don't you think it's a little too soon to think that? You don't really think she'd be on a date with someone we've never seen or heard of before?..."Luna asked in an unsure tone.
"What? She can have a life outside of us. Besides, they are sharing a meal together under a tree together and Makoto is a top notch chief. I wouldn't be surprised if she already captured his heart through his stomach.. They totally look like they're happy together..."Usagi said excitedly, heading in that direction.
"Where are you going?!..."Luna demanded as the blonde girl practically skipped.
"I just wanna meet Mako-chan's new boyfriend. What else am I doing?..."Usagi said in a bubbly tone.
Luna and Chibi-usa both slapped their respective foreheads, already seeing through Usagi's antics.
"Even if they are a couple, don't you think it be a little rude to just pop in while they are on a date..."The little Pink haired girl asked in a scolding tone, which was kinda mature given her age.
Usagi pouted at this.
"I was just gonna say "Hi" and introduce myself to Mako-chan's date..."Usagi said with her arms crossed, while sniffing the air and recognized it as Makoto's home cooking.
"And maybe see if they need any help with the leftovers too..."She thought mischievously with a childish smile on her face as she smelled the food.
Luna and Chibi-Usa both sighed and began to wonder if the blonde knew the concept of personal boundaries or if she had any self-control whenever it came to her appetite.
"This won't end well..."The two thought in sync over the de-facto leader's antics.
Unfortunately, by the time Usagi got there, they were already gone.
The food, picnic blanket and especially Makoto and that boy were gone.
"Huh? Where did they go?..."Usagi asked out loud, looking around but couldn't find any trace of them.
They just...left.
