Chapter 01

Erin yawned as she awakened, a tiny hand gently nudging her face. A chuckle escaped her lips as Brooke's sweet voice urged, "Mama, wake up."

"Keep trying, she'll stir," Antonio's voice whispered from her side. "Mama!" Brooke persisted, shaking Erin's arm. Erin opened an eye to see the toddler crawling on her belly. "Hello, darling," Erin whispered with a smile, pulling the two-year-old into her embrace.

Erin tickled Brooke, eliciting a burst of laughter. "Mama, stop!" Brooke giggled, squirming away from her mother's ticklish fingers.

Antonio settled on the bed with Micah nursing on his thumb. "Mommy, I'm hungry," the little boy announced, his gaze fixed on Erin. A smile spread across her face.

"Are you, my love?" Erin replied, rising with Brooke in her arms. "Yes, Mama, we're starving. And Daddy always burns the food," Brooke added, prompting a chuckle from their father. "I do not burn everything."

"I'll see what I can do," Erin chuckled. "Why don't you join your father and brother while I prepare breakfast?" She placed Brooke gently on the floor.

"Okay!" Brooke chirped, skipping after Antonio and Micah. Erin turned to head downstairs to the kitchen.

As she descended, Erin stretched her arms, allowing her mind to wander through the past two years.

With a contented sigh, she reflected on the absence of Yates as a threat since Antonio had revealed Voight's actions. She felt no sympathy, believing Yates had received justice for his treatment of the nurses.

Erin's thoughts then turned to the twins. She couldn't help but smile at the memory of caring for two newborns simultaneously. It had been a challenge, but Antonio's prior experience as a father had eased the burden.

Erin couldn't shake the warm glow of satisfaction that enveloped her as she embraced her role as a mother, feeling like she was stepping into shoes much larger and more nurturing than those of her own parent. With a contented sigh, she retrieved a colorful ensemble of eggs, bread, sausage, and fresh fruit from the fridge.

The clock's hands danced, and she realized Justin and Olive were en route to whisk the twins away for a delightful escapade, allowing Danny a chance to frolic with his cousins while Antonio and Erin ventured off to the district.

In the labyrinth of her thoughts, Erin recalled Justin's earlier visit with his wife and son, where he wore a cloud of gloom at being kept in the dark about the unfolding drama.

The weight of her kidnapping and the torment that followed had cast shadows, but the news of the suspect's demise and the bright beacon of impending unclehood lightened his heart. Teddy, her half-brother, had also made an appearance, fortuitously crossing paths with Derek.

Teddy and Derek hit it off immediately, bonding over shared interests, much to Erin's delight, as she welcomed an extra set of hands to help keep an eye on Teddy. When Derek revealed his military background, the curious blonde's adventurous spirit ignited, eager to learn more.

In the kitchen, Erin cracked two eggs, letting them sizzle in a skillet as she skillfully scrambled them for the twins, while the savory aroma of sausage danced in the fryer and crispy bacon crisped up in another pan.

Moments later, Erin transformed the dining space into a bustling feast, arranging their plates and sippy cups with care just in time for Antonio, who strolled in with Brooke and Micah.

"Yay, food!" Brooke exclaimed, her joy bubbling over as she darted towards Erin. With a warm embrace, Erin lifted her into her high chair, while Antonio settled Micah into his seat.

Grinning, Erin placed Antonio's plate on the table and joined him across from a steaming cup of coffee. "Ready for today?" he asked, his smile radiating the promise of adventure.

" Yes, I think we should hurry because Hank texted me about needing to talk to us when we get to the district." Erin said, taking a sip of her coffee.

Antonio nodded as he took a bite of his bacon " Did he say what he wanted?" He asked, the brunette shook her head" No, he just said it was important." Erin said with a shrug.

The two talked about random things including Nadia and Derick newborn that was born a few days ago" Jasmine is just a cutie." Erin said with a smile " She looks a lot like Nadia and a little like Derick."

Antonio nodded " I wonder how their doing." He said with a chuckle " I mean they helped with Brooke and Micah but it's really different when it's your own." He said.

"Absolutely, I believe we should pick up the pace. Hank shot me a text, saying he needs to have a word with us once we arrive at the district," Erin remarked, pausing to savor her coffee.

Antonio nodded, chewing his bacon thoughtfully. "Did he mention what's on his mind?" he inquired, to which the brunette simply shook her head. "Nope, just emphasized that it's quite important," Erin replied with a casual shrug.

Their conversation drifted like leaves in a breeze, meandering to topics like Nadia and Derick's newborn, who made her debut just a few days prior. "Jasmine is an absolute sweetheart," Erin said, her smile radiating warmth. "She's the spitting image of Nadia, with just a hint of Derick."

Antonio chuckled, "I can only imagine how they're faring." He smiled, "They were there to lend a hand with Brooke and Micah, but having your own is a whole different adventure."

Erin shrugged, with a smile. "I'm sure they're navigating the rollercoaster with joy, and we'll catch up with them at work," she said. "I remember having a tough time, especially when you headed off to work. I think they're just waiting for one of them to start wailing," she added, laughter dancing in her voice.

As Antonio chuckled, a delightful exchange unfolded between him and Erin, while the twins busily savored their breakfast. Erin's face brightened at the sound of a knock on the door. "I'll take care of it; it's likely Justin, along with Olive and Danny," she called out, stepping away from the kitchen to welcome their guests.

"Mama?" Brooke pouted, eyes tracking her mother's departure until she vanished from sight. "It's alright, my dear, Mama's just letting Uncle Justin and Aunt Olive in," Antonio reassured her gently, assisting with the last forkful of her eggs.

Meanwhile, Micah had already finished his meal and was cheerfully wielding his fork like a conductor's baton, lost in giggles, oblivious to his mother's return accompanied by the cheerful trio.

"Hey there, champ!" Justin greeted the playful boy, who feigned annoyance yet couldn't help but grin. "Hi, Uncle Justin, Aunt Olive, hi Danny!" he exclaimed, laughter in Erin's eyes as she watched him.

Unlike his spirited sister Brooke, who could be as loud as a summer storm and just as bossy, Micah was calm and easygoing, a testament to his mother's influence with just a sprinkle of stubbornness inherited from her.

Erin tidied up the remnants of breakfast, glancing at the coffee pot and the to-go cups. "Anyone in the mood for coffee?" she inquired. "No, thanks," Justin replied, draping his arm around his foster sister's shoulders.

With a bright smile, Erin remarked, "I need to get the twins' shoes on, then we'll be all set." As she lifted the twins from their high chairs, Olive chimed in, "Take your time, Erin," while she scooped up Brooke to aid in the shoe-tying process, leaving Antonio and Justin deep in conversation.

Once the living room had been transformed into a playground of fun, Erin gently set Micah on the couch. "Which shoes do you want to wear today?" she asked, presenting two vibrant pairs for his approval.

"My Batman shoes! They'll match my outfit perfectly," Micah declared, tugging at his shirt emblazoned with the iconic superhero and flaunting shorts adorned with the bat symbol. With a grin, Erin helped him into his shoes after slipping on his socks. "All set, buddy!" she said, planting a kiss on his head.

Erin observed as Justin exited the kitchen alongside Antonio. "Alright, it's time for us to be on our way," she announced, bending down to envelop her twins in a warm embrace. "I'll catch you later, okay?" She planted gentle kisses on their cheeks.

"Okay, Mama," Brooke replied, her lips forming a delicate pout as she crossed her little arms over her chest, prompting a soft chuckle from the adults.

As Erin and Antonio lingered, they waited for Justin and Olive to depart with the children, eager to discover what Voight desired and unveil any puzzles in the form of cases that awaited them.
