"Life's better with Joja."
"That statement couldn't be less true." Chris thought, spinning around in his desk chair. The company was undeniably shitty, with the majority of their income coming from a mediocre at best soda that nobody actually liked. It was even worse to work there. In this hellhole off a workplace, everything was artificial and fake. From the fluorescent ceiling lights, down to the smiles on the employees faces.
Chris rummaged around in his desk drawers hoping to find a reason to procrastinate his work. He opened his desk drawer to find a formal looking letter, tucked away under some business forms. He opened the letter, remembering his late grandfather's words. "Don't open it yet. There will come a day when you are crushed by the burden of modern life. Then you should open it."
"Dear Chris. If you are reading this, you must be in dire need of a change. The same thing happened to me, long ago. I'd lost sight of what mattered most in life… real connections with other people and nature. So I dropped everything and moved to the place I truly belonged. I've enclosed the deed to that place… my pride and joy: Chickadee farm. It's located in Stardew valley, on the southern coast. It's the perfect place to start your new life. This was my most precious gift of all, and now it's yours. I know you'll honor the family name, my dear. Good luck. Love, Grandpa. P.S. If Lewis is still alive, say hi to the old guy for me will ya?"
Chris stared out the bus window, at the green foliage and dense didn't see nature like this in the city. He stepped off the bus and was greeted by an enthusiastic red haired woman.
"Sup! I'm Robin. Welcome to Pelican town!" She smiled brightly at Chris. 'Let me show you to your farm."
Robin led Chris down a worn dirt path to the farm. Well, if you could even call it that. It was a run down log house, overgrown with trees and grass. There were rocks of all sizes everywhere and it looked barely inhabitable. A large wooden sign with peeling paint read: Chickadee farm.
"So this is the farm?' Chris asked hesitantly. "It sure is!" Said an old man who had just emerged from the house. "Nice to meet you chris. I'm Lewis, the mayor of Pelican town."
"It might be a little…rusty. But I can assure you it's quite charming. It's got character!" Lewis stated.
"I think the word to better describe it is crusty." Robin snickered.
Lewis glared at Robin before turning back to Chris. "Well, I hope you'll find everything in working order. We must get going now."
With that they both left, leaving the now empty farm with Chris. He looked around the farm, feeling suddenly exhausted. He went inside the house quietly observing the interior. It was small, only one room. There was a bed, a small television, a fireplace, and a table and chairs. It was the bare minimum, just barely enough to be considered decorated. It would have to do.
Chris crawled into the soft bed, falling asleep. "Tomorrow is another day." He thought, before finally drifting off to sleep.
