Our world is made up with soulmate marks. The story goes that the mark will appear when the youngest soulmate turns 18. Some wait for years for their soulmate's mark to appear and, for the unfortunate few, some never receive one. Most people only have one soul mark, but some have more. When you are close to your soulmate, the mark will tingle. The mark will change when the soulmates touch. It's supposed to be the happiest day of someone's life when they receive it and eventually meet their mate. It's supposed to be.
Y/n sat on her bed with a smile as she read her romance novel. She was 18 and would receive her soulmate mark today. She loved her books more than anything else in the world. She wanted to travel the world to see places she had only heard about from her books. The idea of seeing different places and seeing other cultures excited her. She hoped her soulmate would love it too.
A tingling feeling appeared on her side. Y/n smiled in excitement before it slipped as she felt another tingling feeling on her inner thigh.

Y/n licked her lips and waited until the tingling stopped before she went to the mirror to look at the tattoos. Lifting her shirt, Y/N stared as a black spider with the number 6 appeared on her skin. Under it was the name Shalnark. Lowering her pants showed another black spider with the number 2 with the name Feitan.
"2 soul mates? Weird." Y/n said.
Y/N ran a hand over the mark. She wondered what her mates looked like. Would they be taller than her 4'8? Would they have the same hair color as her or wear glasses? She couldn't wait to meet her soul mates.
She heard noises downstairs and smiled. It sounded like her older brothers, Kai and Aki, were home. They were hunters who had been lucky to find their soulmates during the hunter's exam. She couldn't wait to show them her marks or at least the one on her side.
One hour later, Y/N cried in Aki's arms as she learned her soulmates were part of the most dangerous criminals in the world, The Phantom Troupe. If she was lucky, she would never meet them.
ELSEWHERE
Shalnack clicked buttons on his videogame with a determined look. He was going to beat this game. He jumped when he felt a tingling sensation on his upper arm. His character on the game died and game over flashed but Shalnark didn't pay attention.
He yanked up his sleeve and his face lit up. A black book with a heart on it appeared on his shoulder. Under it was the name, Y/N.
"So, you are finally old enough for me to find. I can't wait to find you, soulmate!" Shalnark said with a bright smile.
Down the hall, Feitan glared at his wrist where a book with a heart appeared with a name attached. He was not sure if he was happy or angry at the mark. He would see what the girl was like before he decided what his reaction would be.
