Chapter 2: Holiday Happiness
The very next day, snow and ice were on the ground at the park, and most of the kids and Snoopy were inside the Caboose, finishing up the decorations. "Would you and Marcie like some help hanging the chain, Darnell?" Sally asked.
"Sure! After you help us get it untangled." Darnell grunted as he struggled to pull away from the paper chain and Marcie.
"Everywhere we go Marcie, you embarrass me." Peppermint Patty sighed.
"You're the embarrassment in our friendship, sir." Marcie quipped back.
Janice giggled. "It's no wonder you two are friends. You also act like sisters!" she smiled as Sally, Kami, and Lila helped Marcie and Darnell out of the paper chain.
"Thanks!" Darnell smiled.
"There! That looks great! Let's see what else we got." Heather smiled as she and the rest of the gang searched through the decorations boxes as Kevin, Lucy, and ReRun entered.
"Hi guys!" Lucy smiled.
"Hi Lucy, hi ReRun, hi Kevin!" the kids smiled.
"Boy it's really cold outside." Kevin shivered.
"But it's nice and warm in here." Linus smiled.
"Ahhhhh!" Lucy smiled.
"Did you bring a toy and some canned food?" asked Charlie Brown.
"Uh huh!" Rerun said.
Sally gasped "Big brother, this is your entire comic book collection!"
"Now some other kids will like them." Charlie Brown said.
Lila giggled "Snoopy, when we said canned food, we didn't mean DOG FOOD. Besides, there're lots of gifts and food out here, already."
"We're gonna wrap everything, tonight, at the party. AFTER decorating the big tree and BEFORE Secret Santa!" Kami smiled.
"Oooooooooh!" Snoopy and Woodstock said in unison.
"Peggy, Pigpen and Beth should be here soon." Lucy looked at the clock.
Janice nodded in agreement before looking in one of the boxes and seeing both halves of Linus' ripped blanket. 'Linus, you can't be serious!"
"I can't fix the blanket, it should go to someone else..." Linus sighed.
Janice picked up both pieces "No; you better keep them, broken or not."
With a sigh, Linus put his blanket in his backpack. "There...happy?"
"Happy." Janice replied and hugged Linus.
Marcie hummed a little, twirling around. "There we go, there we go..."
"What're you doing?" Heather giggled.
"Everyone may be invited to help decorate the big tree, but first, let's finish with the caboose." Marcie explained.
"Watch out for the tinsel!" Darnell gasped.
"I got it!" Lila smiled, picking it up to make sure Marcie didn't trip on it before wrapping the tinsel around the Barney doll.
Darnell, Linus, and Charlie Brown:
Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Kami, Lila, and Heather:
'Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang:
Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Troll the ancient Yuletide carol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
'Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Troll the ancient Yuletide carol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Fa la la la la, la la la la…
With that, the Barney doll came to amazing life with the tinsel and Santa hat still on him. "LA!" Barney smiled.
"BARNEY!" the kids happily exclaimed as they rushed to greet him.
"HEY!" Snoopy happily exclaimed.
"Hi everybody, what you doing?" asked Barney.
"We're decorating the Caboose for the park's first Christmas!" Heather squealed with delight.
"I think you decorated MORE THAN the caboose..." Barney noticed.
"Yeah!" Kevin laughed. "You look like a purple Christmas tree!"
"Here, Barney, let us help you." Charlie Brown offerred.
"Oh thank you, Charlie Brown." Barney smiled.
Lila giggled "Guess I got A LITTLE carried away with the tinsel..."
"A LITTLE, Lillianna?!" Lucy gawked.
"That's okay; we ALL want to look special for Christmas." Barney reminded.
Marcie smiled. "That's why I'm wearing this new dress." And she spun around to show Barney. "See? Mom helped me make it."
"Impressive." Barney said. "And Janice, I love your hat."
Janice smiled happily. "Thanks. It's got hearts on it!"
Barney then looked around. "Oh guys, the caboose looks super dee duper."
"Thanks, Barney. But we didn't do it ALL by ourselves." Charlie Brown said.
"LOTS of people came to help decorate the caboose, this week!" Darnell added.
"Well there are so many pretty Christmas decorations: a tree with bright lights, tinsel and shiny ornaments." Barney complimented.
"And a holiday wreath!" Peppermint Patty said.
"There are so many ways TO celebrate the holidays." Barney commented before looking at Heather. "I just love your angel costume, Heather."
Heather beamed. "Awwww, Barney. I wanted to dress up like the Angel Gabriel from our Nativity scene."
"The Nativity scene was Linus' idea." Kami said. "See?"
Barney smiled. "That's very nice."
"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger". And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men". THAT'S what Christmas is all about." Linus said.
"WHOA!" Darnell gawked. "That was incredible!"
"Thank you." Linus smiled.
"It sure was. Now, what else have you guys set up?" Barney asked.
"Well, Jewish children use this menorah to celebrate Hanukah." Schroeder explained.
"Oh, that's the festival of lights." Barney said.
"And they play a game with this dreidel." Kevin added.
"Oh, it's like a top!" Barney chuckled.
"Barney, I made this placemat to celebrate the African American holiday of Kwanza." Franklin smiled.
"Oh, such bright colors!" Barney smiled. "Well, however you celebrate, it's the perfect time of year!"
"I LOVE THE HOLIDAYS!" Heather squealed.
Barney and Heather:
I love the holidays, I do.
I'd love to celebrate with you.
With all our friends and family
Together, we'll have fun.
Laughing, telling stories,
Give a hug to someone.
Lucy, Linus, Rerun and Janice:
Oh little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
"Oooooh!" Snoopy wagged his tail.
Barney, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang:
I have a little dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play
Oh - dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay
Oh - dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
It loves to dance and spin
And when it is all tired
It drops and then I win
"SO MANY ways to celebrate!" Barney smiled.
Barney, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang (Snoopy):
Happy Kwanzaa! Happy Kwanzaa!
Love and peace from me to you
Habari Gani spreads the news
Of joy to you and asks, "What's new?"
Happy Kwanzaa! Happy Kwanzaa!
Love and peace from me to you
Habari Gani spreads the news
Of joy to you and asks, "What's new?"
(AROOOOOOOOO)
Barney, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang:
Oh, I love the holidays, I do.
Now the special ones we love are near.
So let's have a holiday
In a very special way.
I love to share my holidays
With you this year.
