Chapter 3: Winter's Wonderful

"TADA!" Snoopy said, dancing with a candy cane, making everyone laugh.

"Yep, the holidays ARE a wonderful time to share." Barney smiled.

Peppermint Patty nodded. "Got everything for decorating the tree, tonight?"

Marcie looked through her backpack. "Webster, books, notebooks, pencils and headphones."

Franklin smiled and looked around "I think the caboose is finally all decorated."

"WHOOOOOO!" Snoopy cheered.

"And Barney, guess what!" Charlie Brown smiled.

"What?" Barney asked.

Heather hummed "Lots of people are bringing toys and canned food to families who need special help, this year."

"Awwwww, that's very thoughtful."

Heather nodded "I even decided to give away a few of my toy unicorns so other little girls can play with them."

"That's incredible!" Sally gawked.

"Hey Barney, what do YOU like about the holidays?" Lucy asked.

"Spending time with friends. How about you?" Barney asked.

"Christmas trees!" Charlie Brown smiled.

"Pretty decorations!" Kami smiled.

"Snow!" Beth yelled from outside, but no one noticed.

"Candy canes." Darnell smiled.

"Uh, yummy fruit cakes." Lila smiled.

"Turkey dinner." Peppermint Patty smiled.

"Snow!" Beth smiled, jumping up and down, and this time Snoopy noticed.

"HEY!" Snoopy exclaimed.

"Stockings on the chimney." Sally smiled.

"Wrapping presents!" Marcie smiled.

"Giving presents!" Heather smiled.

"Opening presents!" Lucy smiled before Beth, Peggy Jean, and PigPen entered.

"And snow! It's snowing everyone!" Peggy squealed with excitement.

"Hi Peggy, hi PigPen, hi Beth!" the kids greeted.

"Come on out and let's play in the snow!" Beth smiled.

"Beth's right! Let's go catch a snowflake!" Barney smiled as the kids got dressed in their winter clothes and prepared to head outside.

"WHOO HOO!" Snoopy cheered.

Barney, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:

It's snowy, it's snowy.

The winter wind is blowing.

With hats and coats and gloves and boots,

Outside is where we're going.

It's snowy, it's snowy.

Snowflakes are a-blowing.

There's icicles and snowy hills.

It's really, really snowy.

It's snowy, it's snowy.

The treetops, they are glowing.

Snowballs, snowmen, sleds and slush.

It's really, really snowy!

It's snowy.

Our footprints show right where we've been going.

We've gone here and we've gone there.

I love it when it's snowy.

Barney:

It's snowy, it's snowy.

Your rosy cheeks are showing

Winter's here, so give a cheer.

It's really, really snowy.

Barney, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:

It's snowy, it's snowy.

It's really, really snowy.

And when we're done with winter fun,

Inside is where we're going.

It's snowy, it's snowy.

It's really, really snowy!

The kids moved around in the snow and built a snowman. "Oh Barney..." Lucy smiled.

"Yes, Lucy?" Barney asked.

"Did you know that if you put a hat on a snowman, he can answer questions?" Lucy asked with a grin.

"No, I did not know that." Barney said.

"Come on, I'll show you." Lucy smiled, placing a top hat on the snowman.

"Now Lucy, did you say that a snowman can answer questions if you put a hat on his head?" Barney asked.

"Uh huh!" Lucy smiled.

"That theory has been disproven, Lucy." Linus pointed out.

"Just you watch!" Lucy spat before turning to the snowman. "Mr. Snowman, where does snow come from?"

The 'snowman', actually Kevin, pointed his arms up. "Snow comes from up in the sky, that's right!" Beth smiled.

"He knows snow much!" Barney chuckled.

"Now Mr. Snowman, how big is Barney's tummy?" Schroeder giggled, to which the 'snowman' put his arms out wide.

"Very big!" Lila giggled.

"Now Mr. Snowman, can you point to the tallest, the most beautiful tree in the park?" Barney asked, to which the 'snowman' did just that. "Right! It's over there! Now tell me, how tall is that tree?" The 'snowman' put his arm up. "I think it's taller than that." He put his arm up a little more. "Taller than that..."

"I can't make my arms go up that tall!" Kevin laughed.

"Kevin!" Lucy growled.

"You make a smart snowman." Sally praised.

"Thank you." Kevin smiled.

"Barney, my granny is in charge of decorating the big tree for the park's first Christmas, and invited me to help." Beth said.

"That sounds fun! May we join you?" Barney asked.

"Of course, everyone. Let's go!" Beth announced.

Peppermint Patty laughed "This is gonna be so much fun! Grandmothers are so nice and gentle and always make the best cookies!"

The gang then rushed over to the tallest tree in the park "Ooooooooh!" Snoopy marveled.

"GRANNY!" Beth called out.

"Hi, Sweetie!" Grandma Phillips smiled and hugged her granddaughter. "And I see you brought some friends to help decorate."

"Hi, Mrs. Phillips!" Barney waved.

"Greetings, ma'am." Marcie smiled.

"Nice hat." Linus complimented.

Barney smiled "This tree is absolutely tree-mendous..."

"Real corny..." Sally rolled her eyes.

"Yes, and it's very special to me, Barney." Grandma Phillips began "Cause long ago, my grandfather, Beth's great-GREAT grandfather, planted this tree."

"Oh?" Barney perked up.

"Back then, it was tiny. But since then, it's grown every year! And now, it's almost the tallest tree in the park!"

"Imagine a treehouse in a tree that high!" Rerun giggled.

"Imagine getting a cat out of that tree." Sally replied back as the two laughed.

"People help decorate the tree, every Christmas." Beth added.

Grandma Phillips nodded "That's right, Beth. And more folks will be here, tonight, to watch us light the tree."

"I am so excited!" Heather squealed.

"So am I, Heather."

"It's such a big tree! And it looks beautiful even without Christmas decorations. Don't you think so?"

"It certainly does, Heather. It certainly does. It's so green and pretty, all year!"

Grandma Phillips:

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Your leaves are so unchanging

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Your leaves are so unchanging

Not only green when summer's here

But also when it's cold and drear

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Your leaves are so unchanging

Barney, Grandma Phillips, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang:

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Your leaves are so unchanging

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Your leaves are so unchanging

Not only green when summer's here

But also when it's cold and drear

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Your leaves are so unchanging

"Well, even though it is pretty wonderful now, we're all gonna make it look stupendous for the Christmas holiday." Barney said.

"YEAH!" Peppermint Patty cheered.

Marcie nodded her head in agreement before a gust of wind blew by. "Sure is cold out, Sir..."

"Very cold..." Heather said, rubbing her hands together. "But it'll all be worth it."

"Well, let's get started everybody!" Grandma Phillips smiled. "Now, these boxes hold the strings of lights with we hang up first. And then these boxes hold some ornaments, but folks will bring lots more."

"Miss Phillips, what's in this box?" ReRun asked, carrying a oddly shaped box.

"Ah, the most special ornament is in this box, ReRun. It's the shiny gold star that we put at the very top of the tree." Grandma Phillips smiled, opening the box only to find it empty. "Oh my goodness. It's not here."

"It's not?!" Beth exclaimed worriedly. "The tree has to have the big star on top."

"This is bad." Janice gulped.

"What can we do to help?" asked Barney.

"Oh, let's not worry too much. Beth's grandfather and I keep some of these decorations including this box up in our attic. I'm sure the star is up there somewhere." Grandma Phillips assured. "Will you go to the house and look for it, dear?"

"Sure, granny. We'll be back soon." Beth smiled.

"I'm sure you will. See you later." Grandma Phillips smiled as the kids, Barney, and Snoopy left.

"Come on everybody, let's go!" Beth smiled.

Barney, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:

Over the river and through the woods

To grandmother's house we go.

The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh

Through white and drifted snow

Oh over the river and through the woods

Oh, how the wind does blow

It stings the toes and bites the nose

As over the ground we go.

"I think we're getting closer!" Barney announced.

Barney, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang (Snoopy):

Over the river and through the woods

To have a full day of play

Oh hear the bells ringing 'ding a ling ling'

Hooray for Christmas day

(WHOOOOO!)

Over the river and through the woods

Trot fast, my dapple gray

Spring over the ground, just like a hound

Hooray for Christmas day!

(WHOOOOOOO!)

"I see it!" Beth announced.

Barney, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang (Snoopy):

Over the river and through the woods

Now, granny's house, I spy!

Hooray for fun, the pudding's done

Hooray for Christmas day!
