Chapter 6: Being Together

Early evening and still no sign of the star.

"No star here..." Barney announced.

"Hey everyone! Over here!" Darnell motioned.

"You found the star?!" Heather asked, hopefully.

"No; but I found a picture of the star."

"Just a picture?" BJ groaned.

"We can't put THAT on the tree." Lucy snarked.

Pigpen smiled "That's the photo album I saw earlier. Look. That's the star, alright."

"And that means THIS is Great-Great Grandpa Phillips standing next to the tree." Linus pointed.

"You're right on the money, Linus. And that's the big tree, when it was tiny." Beth added on.

"It looks like it was too small TO hold up the star." Barney gasped a little.

"Just like the tree I once picked out was too small to hold up the ornament." Charlie Brown said.

"Now that the big tree is all grown up, I bet it fits perfect size." Rerun stated.

"IF we could find it." Kami said.

"And everyone's counting on US to bring it for the tree-lighting, tonight." Beth said.

"Don't give up." Charlie Brown commented.

"I'm trying not to."

"Maybe it's time to ASK THE STAR for a little help." Heather suggested.

BJ looked confused. "Did you hit your head?"

"HOW do we do that?" Baby Bop wondered.

"I'll show you." Heather smiled happily.

"Marcie, get your nose out of the book and help us look." Peppermint Patty laughed as Marcie barely noticed her friend try to get her attention.

"Where are you?" Baby Bop asked.

"Please?" asked Heather, ever so sweetly.

After awhile, the kids sighed, about ready to give up. "Guess the star's not talking today." Lila sighed sadly.

"We looked everywhere in this attic." Lucy said.

"I guess there won't be a star on the big tree tonight." Beth sighed sadly.

"Ay yi yi! Where is that star?" BJ asked, knocking over a cowboy hat to reveal the top of a star. "Hey guys! This looks like the top of a star!"

"You found it?!" Heather asked eagerly as they removed the sheets to reveal the big Christmas star!

"It's the star! We found it!" Beth smiled as Snoopy fetched the box that goes with it.

"It was right here the whole time!" Linus smiled as they put it back into the box.

"A perfect fit." Charlie Brown smiled.

"OK, everybody, let's get back to the park!" Barney smiled before Grandpa Phillips came up to the attic.

"Well, it seems like there's a happy commotion happening up here!" Grandpa Phillips smiled.

"Grandpa, grandpa! We found the star!" Beth smiled.

"Great! I knew you would, sugar! We better get that star over to your grandma." Grandpa Phillips smiled.

"Oooh! Look!" Baby Bop smiled as she found some bells.

"Baby Bop, we have to go now! No more time for playing." Sally said.

"Awwww, but listen, Sally." Baby Bop giggled and shook the bells some more. "JINGLE BELLS! Can we play with them? PLEASE?"

"You know, guys, as we hurry to the park, we WILL be dashing through the snow." Grandpa Phillips said.

Heather nodded "And o'er the fields we'll go!"

"LAUGHING ALL THE WAY!" Rerun exclaimed.

"HAHAHA!" everyone laughed.

Grandpa Phillips laughed "Bring those along, Baby bop. I think we're gonna need some jingle bells, after all."

"Oh goodie! I found jingle bells!" Baby Bop cooed.

Peppermint Patty smiled "Ya sure did!" she said.

"Let's do this!" Peggy Jean announced.

"Jingle, jingle, jingle, jingle!" Sally, Lila and Baby Bop sang.

Charlie Brown smiled "Just in time. Park sure is busy."

"DAD!" Peppermint Patty announced, running over. "YOU MADE IT!"

"Hey Patricia!" Mr. Reichardt laughed and picked up his Rare Gem. "Wouldn't miss it for the world."

"The tree is so pretty!" Rerun complimented.

"Thanks." Mrs. Van Pelt smiled, putting some ornaments on the big tree.

"Look at all the ornaments!" BJ commented.

"EVERYBODY brought some to put on the tree." Grandma Phillips responded.

"Grandpa, need a hand with that box?" Franklin asked, running over to help.

"You're right; everyone brought something to put on the tree." Beth commented.

"And we brought the prettiest one of all!" Heather smiled as Snoopy opened the box.

"TADA!" Snoopy beamed.

Granny Phillips chuckled. "Why don't we let your grandpa put there star up there?" she asked. "And in the meantime, let's put a few finishing touches on the tree."

"Great idea!" Linus smiled as they finished up with the tree.
