After the night at Elizabeth's house, the two of them were ready to go on a date night out. It would have to wait until the following weekend as Nathan had long shifts all week and Elizabeth was preparing for the end of the year activities. Nathan had asked Elizabeth what type of foods she liked so he could plan the date but he wouldn't tell her any other details. Elizabeth loved the thought of Nathan surprising her.
The two of them started to text during the next week. It was easier since they were busy at different times during the day to ask each other questions and then respond when they had a free moment. The two of them used the texts to get to know each other better.
Nathan: If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Elizabeth: I would love to go to Prince Edward Island. Anne of Green Gables was one of my favorite books growing up and I've always wanted to see it. What about you?
Nathan: I would go to the Grand Canyon. I can't imagine seeing something like that in real life.
Elizabeth went out to dinner during the week with Rosemary and Faith. The other two women were talking and Elizabeth was constantly distracted by her phone. She would smile as she got a text back from Nathan and quickly text a response. After about the third time, Rosemary finally spoke up.
"So who are you texting that has you smiling like that Elizabeth?" Rosemary asked with a smile of her own.
Elizabeth blushed and put her phone back in her purse. She took a drink of water as Rosemary laughed.
"It's Nathan isn't it? Oh Elizabeth, that's wonderful!" Faith said.
"How are things going with the two of you?" Rosemary asked.
"We have a date this weekend. I am excited and a little nervous," Elizabeth said.
Faith reached out and put her hand on Elizabeth's, glancing at Rosemary. "Elizabeth, just be yourself. Nathan seems like a great guy and you deserve someone like that. Jack would want that for you."
"I'm so glad to have both of you here. Thank you," Elizabeth said.
The three of them enjoyed their dinner and conversation with lots of laughter. Elizabeth only looked at her phone once.

Late one night, Nathan sat on his front porch. Shortly after he bought the house and moved in, he put up a large porch swing. He had a huge porch on the front of his house and he loved to sit out there at night. He had a patio in the backyard but there was something about the swing that he loved. Nathan sat there with a cup of coffee. He had to get ready to go to the hospital soon for his overnight shift but he wanted to take a few minutes of quiet before he went into the busy surgery floor.
Nathan was just about to go inside when he saw a car pull into Lee and Rosemary's driveway next door. He smiled as he saw Elizabeth get out of the car. She didn't look over right away, probably because she didn't expect him to be home. She went to get a bag out of the back seat of the car and then she looked up. Elizabeth moved the hair off of her shoulder as she put the bag there and she saw Nathan on the porch next door. He smiled at her and she felt the butterflies almost immediately. She waved and started to walk across the yard towards Nathan's house.
"Hi, I didn't expect to see you here," Elizabeth said as she walked up the stairs towards Nathan.
Nathan stood to greet her, "Hey, I was just drinking some coffee before I need to leave for work. I work the overnight shift tonight so I will need a lot of caffeine."
Elizabeth nodded. She knew about needing caffeine on busy days. She had to run after a classroom of kindergarten students which would make anyone tired.
"I am looking forward to our date," Nathan said.
"I am too. You still aren't going to tell me what you have planned, are you?" Elizabeth said putting her hands on her hips and looking at Nathan with a smirk.
"Nope, it's a surprise. Your teacher face isn't going to work on me either."
"Teacher face?" Elizabeth said surprised.
"Yes ma'am. You get this look like I am in trouble. But I can tell you that even if I am, that is ok with me," Nathan said as he stepped closer to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth took a deep breath as Nathan stood close to her. She could feel the heat from his body as they stood there looking into each other's eyes. Was she imagining it or did he look at her lips? Before she could even think of what that would mean, she heard a voice from next door, "Elizabeth?"
Nathan and Elizabeth moved apart like two kids who had been caught. Rosemary had seen Elizabeth's car in the driveway and had come out of her front door to see where her friend was. Rosemary smiled when she saw Nathan and Elizabeth together.
"I should get going," Elizabeth said.
"I need to get ready to leave for work anyway. I'll see you Saturday?" Nathan said as Elizabeth walked down the steps.
"Yes. I will see you then."
Elizabeth walked towards Rosemary and looked over her shoulder back to Nathan. He stood right outside and waved at her. She waved back and then turned to continue walking towards Rosemary.
"So…" Rosemary said.
"What? I was just saying hi."
"Uh huh," Rosemary said as the two of them walked into Rosemary's house.
