The arena, or rather miles long arid landscape surrounded by a force field, was silent, except for the wind blowing the polluted air across the wind. Louis was escorted here and left immediately by the space marines. He looked over his surroundings for a moment, noticing it was essentially an abandoned industrial complex. Tall buildings with shattered windows, collapsed roofs and other types of erosion dotting it.
Louis was sitting on a rock, waiting for whatever this beast was to show its head. It was a mystery, yet one he accepted with grace. He had accepted his previous death, and this new life in its entirety. Where else could he go? What else could he do? Did his family grieve him? Did they miss him? He would never truly know, and he just had to accept that fact.
He was no longer Micheal…just Louis now. And he was a leader now, of trillions. A god proclaimed to them. And he had to do right by them and those he now cherished.
The man stood to his feet, stretching for a moment, a few cracks emanating from him as the stiffness from his limbs slowly eased away. Vigdis lazily floated around him, also gazing off at the…sad, yet beautiful landscape of pollution. It was unusual for this silence to reign between them, but considering the stakes at hand. There needed to be some seriousness.
"Louie…. Do you think we made the right choice" It was not a question from the cube, but more of a statement. They both already knew the choice they made was one that they had to go with. They had to accept that. Louis and Vigdis were partners, where one made a mistake or a choice, the other followed without question.
"... I believe so. It's time for us to step out into the big leagues."
Vigdis went silent for a minute more before speaking up again. Her voice held an air of acceptance. "Yeah…no backing out now" Louis looked at Vigdis and gently grabbed the cube, bringing her in for a brief hug. Both of them closed their eyes. Basking in the moment.
He then heard it, or rather felt it… the ground shaking as something large began approaching. Louis let go of vigdis, and the both of them narrowed their eyes/eye respectively ready for the fight at hand. IT then appeared, a large figure taller than the clouds. A titan made for war, formed from old metal and technology lost to time. As it passed through the force field into the Arena, yet it did not roar. It spoke…
ި⸝ᛁ⸜, ި⸝ᛁ⸜, ╮⸝◟, ⸍ᛁ◟ᛁ⸍...⸌ᛁ⸍ ᛁ⸍ ᛁ⸜⸍, ᛁˎ╮... ᛙ◟ᛁᛁ ╮╵"
A loud unintelligible noise came from it, One that Louis nor Vigdis could understand, Yet this did not deter them.
"Are you playing music right now!" Louis shouted over to Vigdis, It was then that the Titan lifted its left arm, a large multi barreled gun forming in place of its hand, Loud cracks soon filled the air as it began firing rounds at the both of them, dotting the landscape with craters just because of the impact of the bullets landing. Louis, seeing this, quickly moved, sprinting away from a hail of gunfire being sent towards him from the Titan.
Soon, polluted dust covered the landscape as the battle picked up in intensity.
"I am terrified right now!" Vigdis shouted out over the music. Louis quickly ducked behind one building out of sight of the titan, yet he knew he only had a moment to breathe before it decided to just start destroying things indiscriminately.
He tried to remember the fights he used to do with his character, the inventions he would create. However, the smell of rust and the explosions caused his thoughts to freeze…He had never been in a true fight…yet he had to adapt.
"C'mon, c'mon…Think…what would he do in this situation…analyze, probably complain about his inventions not working properly…" The sound of heat and space distorting quickly alerted Louis to the next attack from the Titan, He quickly had Vigdis create a physical (energy) attack (defense) shield, Just in time as a large beam of destructive energy cleaved through the building he hid behind and the subsequent mountain behind that…. oh multiple mountains, it seems.
"Well, time to test out a few inventions, Vigdis short distance glove!" Louis thought. Once the beam of destruction abated, He could see that the titan opened its chest to fire it off. Just what in the hell were he and Vigdis dealing with?.
"One long distance warp glove coming up!" Vigdis spoke and in a flash of light, a rather unassuming glove appeared on Louis's left hand, The joints were his best bet to actually disable the titan, atleast long enough for him to inflict more damage to it. He just needed to-
Pain snapped him out of his thoughts, the world going past him in a blur; He felt his body impact something rock solid behind him, and upon his vision returning to him, He noticed he was inside one building, bits and pieces of rubble falling around him. His ears rang,
"Lou-"
His head hurt… yet he was alive?. He felt something wet dripping down his face, lifting his hand and sliding a finger against it. He saw blood upon putting it in front of his view.
"Louis!"
Vigdis's voice snapped him out of his trance, and slowly he stood back up to his feet. "Louis, thank god you're alright." The cube floated around him rapidly, her eyes glowing as she scanned his vitals. "No fractures or breaks, No internal damage…Louie how are-" Yet Louis began walking towards the hole in the building, gazing out at the titan in anger.
"Alright?, I don't know, but that is the least of our worries right now," Lifting his gloved hand, He activated it, appearing on top of an adjacent building. Vigdis floated beside him ready for whatever he had planned.
"Vigdis"
"Yes Louie?"
"Bombardment" Louis spoke out, The cube understood, and immediately began glowing.
Lord commander's office
Gulliman looked over the live footage with a keen eye. This individual was strange, yet interesting in the way he fought. And now that he did not have the rest of the highlord's complaining to him. He could finally analyze this omnissiah. Usually most would cower in fear at a titan coming straight for them, yet this man went headfirst into battle.
Bravery was something that few held in high regard. He could respect that. It especially interested him seeing that he survived a full strength blow from the Titan. He brought the servorecorder over, Pressing a few buttons on it. Soon a warning popped up on the screen, Showing that it was broadcasting it to mars as well as Terra.
Just like his father proved himself to humanity, This man would do the same towards him and his followers.
The primarch looked away for a moment to drink a small cup of recaf he had on hand. He did not need it…but it did ease the annoyance of paperwork slightly. Although it was disheartening having to drink out of such a tiny cup, His hands were a bit too big. As he sipped from his cup of recaf. He noticed his office beginning to shake, Small tremors beginning to move the mountains of paperwork he had accumulated from the administratum.
Out of Curiosity, The Primarch set down his cup of Recaf glancing back over to the live footage, His eyes widening slightly as he found out Why the tremors were happening.
" I am going to need more Recaf" Guilliman pinched the bridge of his nose. He could feel a headache coming in the future from this individual. Especially with the administratum.
industrial arena
Massive Plumes of Ice appeared around the Titan, Encasing its arms. The titan began to roar out in anger, Only for another missile to impact its face, silencing it with a large explosion of Ice. Slowly the Arid landscape was turning from a polluted desert, Into a domain of ice and snow. With Louis at the forefront of the chaos, Multiple sam launchers behind him firing off missile after missile in an unending bombardment.
Using this opportunity, He warped towards the Titan, and had Vigdis create a hammer as he was directly above the left arm of the titan. The barrage of missile's ended as he finally came close to its arm, Cold causes most metals to go under ductile brittle transition, and if Louis's hypothesis was correct.
CLANG….SHATTER
It will fail under stress, Louis's hammer struck true at the shoulder joint, large chunks of metal and ice flying past him due to the force of the impact from the hammer. An echoing roar emanated from the titan as it began to collapse, Ice cracking and breaking due to the weight of its frame. Louis landed on the ground holding the hammer over his shoulder. Vigdis floated beside him letting out a haughty laugh.
"SUUUCK IT BIIIITCH!" She shouted out towards the titan. A loud cheer echoing from her throughout the industrial area…. Yet Louis still felt wary.
Pain, anger, loss, mother, father... . The Titan was a cacophony of souls brought together under one chassis, A constant fight for dominance with not one soul winning in the war held over thousands of years... yet in the darkness of oblivion. One soul remembered. One soul slowly began to overtake the countless tens of thousands. One before the time of the emperor.
"Mother, what is a knight?
"Oh, that is something I have not heard in years, Knights are gallant, brave, and pious individuals. People who fight for the good of others, under the leadership of their lord or king."
"Can I be a knight?"
"I believe you can love; you just have to find that person who you believe can lead, and if you find that person... test them, for their valor, for their heart."
"Test them?"
The titan's eyes glowed a deep orange as the soul fully took root over the rest. Energy began leaking out of it, bathing the entire industrial complex, The ice surrounding the titan shattered to pieces. The rage, the anger, abated in its entirety... Now all that remained was focus. It was not a warp; it was something else.
Yes, my child, test them. And if they prove themselves... serve them to the ends of the earth.
The titan roared, the energy coalescing and finally bursting out, covering the entire complex in dust and debris. Louis covered his face with his arm, while Vigdis shook from fear. The dust slowly began to settle, showing that a few buildings and even the glacier of ice Louis created were gone, and so was the large, imposing titan.
In its place stood what could only be attributed to be a knight, yet one fused with the metal and robotics of the titan. It was seven meters tall, imposing yet regal. Its orange eyes gazed down at the both of them, It was almost like it was judging them both.
Slowly it lifted a hand, small bits of energy coalescing around it, Until a large blade slowly formed in its hand, To which it gripped onto holding it over its shoulder. Yet instead of attacking, It simply waited… It wanted Louis to begin the fight.
"Gaulter, that is my name ... .prepare thyself" he vocalized towards the Duo. This had them both shaking, yet Louis accepted the challenge, It was either that or… well die, He quickly dismantled the hammer and then had Vigdis create a baseball bat, One that he quickly grabbed onto shifting into a rather awkward stance.
He barely even blinked before the knight was upon him, his blade aimed right for Louis's head, The man quickly bent backwards watching it slide past his face cutting through the building behind him, He heard the building collapse behind him and focused more on the battle at hand, quickly side stepping another strike from Gaulter.
Yet this was a foolish mistake from the inventor, one he paid for as he felt a punch impact his face sending him flying backwards due to the force of it. Landing on the ground, He noticed The knight appearing above him in a burst of speed sending his blade down towards louis's chest. "ROLL TO THE LEFT LOUIE" Vigdis shouted out, Louis quickly followed her advice moving out of the downward stab, he then rose to his feet Watching as the knight removed his blade from the earth.
"You lack proper finesse, and you use a club instead of a proper blade, How unsightly" Gaulter spoke out as he hefted the blade over his shoulder. He sounded like that of a disappointed teacher.
Louis let out a slight grin, beads of sweat going down his face as he held up the bat in both of his hands. "What can I say, never was one for using a sword" Louis quickly raised his bat blocking a slash from the knight . "And yet you speak with arrogance…"
Slowly the knight pushed louis back further and further, His feet digging into the dirt due to the force applied to him.
"Curve"
A small voice echoed in the back of Louis;'s mind. He decided to take the advice and quickly whirled his bat around the blade of the knight. This caused the knight to lose his balance for a moment, giving Louis enough time to aim his strike.
"Batter up!" he shouted out, driving his bat into the helmet of the knight, eliciting a loud squeal as it somehow cut into the side of the knight's helmet. He reeled back from the blow. His blade was forgotten as he reached up a hand to its helmet, tracing the deep cut. He then reached his hand out, grabbing onto his blade once more.
Louis could not react in time and felt the impact of the blade cutting into his abdomen. Followed by the world around him spinning, his momentum suddenly stopped after his back impacted something hard behind him. Gualter was then in front of Louis, sending a punch directly into his chest, followed by his face, He then grabbed onto Louis's head, bringing the man up to his helmet, his eyes boring into Louis's own once more.
"Come on, FIGHT, SHOW ME WHO YOU ARE, SHOW ME YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO RULES INSTEAD OF BEING A JESTER!" To punctuate his statement, the knight threw Louis into and through one of the buildings, The man's body eventually came to a stop, crashing into a pile of sand. Louse let out a cough trying to sit up, Only to feel...shattered, bruised... He could feel his blood leaking onto the sand.
"LOUIS" Vigdis quickly floated over to the man, her eye rapidly changing color due to the absolute mess of emotions plaguing her. "You gotta get up, I'll make a healing stim, come on, COME ON!" She quickly got underneath the man and began to lift his back with all of her effort, only for him to lay back after she stopped.
The knight slowly approached the both of them, his blade dragging behind him through the rocks and sandy ground.
Mars
Thousands upon thousands of Mechanicus watched the battle at hand, Elvira and Raskain at the forefront. They had cheered as their Omnissiah managed to reprimand the beast by way of severing its arm, an unruly machine spirit such as that should listen to its creator, Yet watching as their Omnissiah was essentially pummeled, his blood leaking out onto the sand.
They began to doubt
They began to wonder if their faith was true.
They began to question everything.
And slowly whispers began to rise up from them, "The Omnissiah is losing to that unruly spirit, is he truly who he says he is?" "Have we believed a lie?" Multiple Magos and Techpriests conversed, all while Raskain and Elvira listened on.
"What if he is a fake, just like that emperor?"
"What if he-"
"HE IS WHO HE SAYS HE IS!" Elvira shouted out in anger, The room went silent as she glared at all of them. "All of the things he has done, he has proven himself time and time again... and I believe he will do it once more!, I HAVE FAITH!"
As Elvira spoke, she thought back on the moment with him. "But I will never leave you all. I promise that.
Raskain laid a hand on her shoulder, calming her, and once more she looked towards the screen, seeing the machine spirit finally at her lord's body. "Please do not let my faith be in vain. You promised me, you promised us all."
"It hurts, I know... But you gotta get up, kid; people are counting on you. Come on…You can bring change...okay your still delirious...fuck it time to deus ex machina this shit"
A voice echoed in Louis's mind, and to his credit, he did understand some of it. He then felt something echo from himself... from his soul?. A bloody smile soon graced his features right as the knight lifted his blade to pierce his body.
"Your right…. I was scared, scared of failing them, scared of dying... time to find out who I truly am."
Louis's eyes glowed brighter as his soul sang. As the knight stabbed down, he reached up a hand, catching the blade.
The knight then felt himself get thrown away from the man. He quickly righted himself, lifting his blade to cut apart a missile sent towards him. A wave of ice and snow was flowing around him, bathing the ground in white.
"You finally show promise."
The knight looked on at Louis, who now stood on top of the sand dunes, an automated missile launcher behind him, His wounds recovered, yet with a broad smile across his face, Vigdis floated beside him, sharing in the man's excitement.
"ROUND THREE BIITCH!" the cube shouted out towards the knight, letting loose a few more missiles out of the invention. The knight used his speed to maneuver out of the line of fire, plums of ice and snow exploding behind him as he got closer and closer to Louis himself, and as he slashed his blade towards the inventor, the man countered with his bat. Followed by said inventor sending a punch directly into the head of the knight, This was then finished off with a strike towards the chest of the knight by Louis's bat, cleaving into it with a squeal of metal hitting metal.
The knight stepped back, the bat leaving his chest. His eyes gazed at Louis with... joy. The inventor stared back with a smile, lifting the bat towards the knight.
"Like Vigdis said…round three bitch!"
