CHAPTER 10 – „So, Men Suck"
The next morning Klaus was still in bed with Caroline in his arms.
"Are you happy, Klaus? Now that you have everything you could possibly want?" Caroline asked him, snuggling closer.
"Being here with you like this, I'm beyond happy." Klaus replied and leaned in to kiss her forehead.
"So what's in today's agenda? Murder, murder and some mayhem in between?" Caroline asked with a smile.
Klaus chuckled, "Actually no, if anyone doesn't come here asking for it, I'm gonna stay right here with you."
Then he changed his position so that he was on top of her now and started kissing her.
"Again, already?" She asked in between kissing him.
"You aren't tired already, are you?" Klaus replied by asking a question he already knew the answer to. "I mean being vampires, we have a lot more stamina than humans do."
"Yes, we do." Caroline agreed before pulling him closer to deepen the kiss.
Then Klaus' phone started ringing on the nightstand.
"Ugh, I know that sound, It's Marcel, I got to take this. Sorry, love." He said, rolling off of her and taking the phone.
"Marcel. This better be important."
"I'm at St. Anne's. Davina's gone. I need your help locating her." Marcel got straight to the point.
Klaus groaned in frustration, "Damn it. Come to the Abattoir, let's have a little meeting."
Cami was screaming in agony on the floor while Davina magically stripped the compulsion from her mind. While she worked, Josh stood behind her and examined the notes Cami had left herself around the room.
"Oh god, it hurts!" Cami cried.
Davina knelt down in front of her.
"I'm sorry, Cami. It's the only way to break Klaus' compulsion." Davina sympathetically told her.
"Believe me, I know what it's like. You will be okay. And hey- all these notes that you made? It's very Memento of you. Nice work." Josh added, offering an assuring smile to her.
"We've been at this all night. I don't understand what's happening to me, I don't understand any of this—"
"But you will. I will unlock every stolen memory, undo every piece of mind control that any vampire has ever done to you. When I'm done, you will understand all of it, and you'll be free. But I can stop, if you want me to?" Davin asked Cami.
"No, don't stop. I want to remember everything." Cami was determined.
Klaus, Marcel and Caroline were in the living room discussing their current predicament.
"You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to know the obvious. Our secret weapon has escaped."
"She wouldn't just leave. She knows the witches want her back." Marcel argued.
Elijah appeared from around the corner and Marcel turned towards him.
"Her violin is missing. She may have left of her own volition."
Marcel got in Elijah's face, "What did you say to her in the attic? She lied to my face so she could stay up there, thinking that you'd help her control her magic. How do we know you didn't take her?"
"I have no idea where Davina is, or why she ran away. Can I suggest you take a step back?" Elijah said, looking Marcel straight in the eyes.
Marcel eyed him for a moment before turning away.
"I can assure you I have absolutely no desire to see that child come into harm's way. She's suffered enough with this Harvest ritual nonsense."
"That child, to whom you refer to so affectionately, is the most powerful witch in New Orleans. If she's fled, what's to stop her from destroying us? In fact, destroying all we've worked for? No, if she's not a friend to this family, then she is our enemy."
Caroline sighed and said as she sat down on the couch, "She is a friend, Klaus."
"Well, let's hope so."
"She is, Klaus. A friend, my family." Marcel assured Klaus.
"Great." Klaus waved his arms, "Lucky for you, I know how to get her back. Follow my lead."
Klaus left the room with Elijah and Marcel reluctantly following him.
Then Klaus came back in the room, "Almost forgot you sweetheart." He leaned down to give her a brief kiss on the lips. "I'll be back soon."
"Take your time. Find Davina, that's the most important thing right now."
Klaus looked in her eyes and whispered, "I don't deserve you." Then kissed her again and after looking at her one more moment, he left.
When Klaus was gone, Hayley came into the room when Caroline was just about to leave it.
"Hey, Caroline, I know we are exactly best friends but I really need your help."
"What's wrong?" Caroline asked worriedly, ignoring the part about not being close friends.
"A friend of Sophie Deveraux, Anya something called me just now. She said that exchange for my help she could lift the curse put on my people long time ago. Believe me, helping some witches is the last thing I want to do, but-."
"Help with what?" Caroline continued to ask.
"She told me she needed to know where one New Orleans witch was buried, Celeste DuBois, she was one of Elijah's lovers long time ago. And Anya thinks Elijah has written the location to his journals."
"And Elijah's journals are still at the plantation house." Caroline realized what Hayley was asking from her.
"Exactly, and I can't go, because Klaus' goons are watching me like a hawk. But you have a free pass to move around."
"Okay, but isn't Elijah going to be mad that you went behind his back?" Caroline continued to pry.
"He probably will. But what choice do I have? I need to free my people of the curse Marcel put on them. I ned the witches' allegiance. Caroline, please, do this one thing for me."
"Okay, okay. I will go right now. What year was Celeste buried?"
"1820. And thank you so much, Caroline." Hayley sincerely thanked her.
Caroline put her hand on Hayley's shoulder and squeezed assuringly "I'll be back as soon as I can."
Josh was still with Davina in Cami's apartment, pacing around nervously as Cami and Davina made preparations to leave as Davina had felt that witches were doing a location spell to find her.
His phone suddenly vibrated and he looked at his phone to see who was calling him. It was an unknown number.
"Uh, hello?" Josh nervously picked up.
"Joshua, my most disappointing minion. I suspected you wouldn't answer the call were it from me."
"Klaus. Hey. What up? Guess what, I just moved to Turkey. Weirdly, they don't eat turkey here. Go figure."
"You're lying. In fact, Marcel and I were just chatting about your failed double agent status, and we've surmised that you're likely still in town and in the company of a friend– a young, angry witch." Klaus explained his theory.
"Nope. Nope. No witches here. Totally digging Turkey, though."
"Are you really going to leave Davina's fiddler soulmate, Timothy, alone with me? I assure you, I just want to talk to her. Tim and I will be at the compound. I really do hope she comes home soon."
Klaus hung up
Cami and Davina looked at her.
"Klaus called? What did he want?" Davina asked.
Klaus and Elijah were at the compound, in the courtyard when Marcel arrived.
"Took you long enough to spread the word." Klaus quipped
"Have you met his nightwalkers? Not the brightest assortment."
"All that matters is I got it covered. When Davina gets here, you two need to let me do the talking." Marcel told Klaus.
"Well, I'm sure you'll have your chance. Hello, love." Klaus greeted Davina.
"You got me here. Now let Timothy go." Davina told Klaus.
"Well, first, we have to have a little chat about you returning to the fold."
"You pretend to be so confident, Klaus, but I know the truth. You're afraid everyone can see what you really are- an animal." She casted a pain infliction spell that brought him to his knees and he groaned in pain. "A beast. Why don't you show us your real face?"She magically forced Klaus to partially transform into a werewolf before telekinetically snapping his neck "That's enough of you."
"Davina, you don't have to do this."
"You! You looked me in the eyes and lied to my face. Pretended you wanted to help me." Davina turned to Elijah and started on him. "You call yourself the noble one, but you're a killer just like your brother. For 1,000 years, you've fed on innocent blood. Why don't you choke on it?" She casted a spell on Elijah that caused him to regurgitate all of the blood he had consumed before he fell unconscious.
She then turns to Marcel, who looked frightened "And you! I trusted you. I loved you, but you were just using me to stay in power. You don't care about me."
"You're wrong." Marcel was pleading with her. "I care. I took you in like you were my own blood."
Rebekah suddenly appeared and stabbed Marcel through the chest with a wrought-iron poker. He choked for a moment before he, too, fell unconscious onto the ground.
"Come on now, love. Don't tell me you were falling for that. Isn't it time for us girls to have a chat? By the way, I have a surprise for you."
"Timothy, come here, darling." Rebeka called out and Tim appeared. He was confused.
"Davina, how did you do all that? How did I even get here?" Tim asked her.
"I'll explain everything, I promise." She turned to Rebekah. "Why are you doing this?"
"Seems to me that you're the one holding all the cards, but you don't know who to trust. I've just proven that you can trust me."
Davina looked around nervously. Tim who had just sipped from a water bottle, told her, "Hey, hey, it's gonna be okay. I mean, you're gonna be all right. Here. Drink something."
Tim handed her a bottle of water and Davina drank from it.
"Davina, both you and I have been lied to and taken advantage of by Marcel and Klaus. Maybe together, we can get a little payback." Rebekah told her while Davina was sipping water.
Tim suddenly started coughing and she fell to his knees.
"Tim?" Davina asked and leaned down to level with Tim.
Just then Caroline appeared to the second floor balcony. She had just taken Hayley the journal and had come to check what was going on with the noise coming from the courtyard. The scene in front of her that had Klaus, Elijah and Marcel incapacitated and Davina's friend sick for some reason, shocked her.
"It was Klaus. He made me do it. I didn't even know what I was doing until I made you—"
"Made her what?" Rebekah impatiently asked.
Tim's eyes widened in shock as he choke out the word, "Drink".
"Klaus poisoned the water." Rebekah was horrified realizing it.
"Tim?" Davina frantically tried to wake Tim who had fallen on the ground dead.
Suddenly Davina started to get dizzy too, and she fell to the ground in a coughing fit.
"Oh, no." Caroline muttered to herself. Then she realised what was going on and she herself felt sick about what Klaus had done. Completely disappointed in him and herself, she turned around and headed to Klaus study. She pulled out a paper pad and a pencil from one of the drawers and started writing a letter.
Meanwhile, in the courtyard Klaus, Marcel and Elijah had regained consciousness.
"You son of bitch. What the hell did you do?" Rebekah screamed at her brother.
"Well, I tried to talk to her, out of respect for Marcel, but she made it quite clear she is not our friend. My apologies if you thought she was yours." Klaus shrugged.
Elijah and Marcel stared at him, angry and horrified.
"Oh, come on. The stench of your judgment is overwhelming. Need I remind you that Davina just bested the lot of us? I did what had to be done."
"So you compelled that boy to poison Davina without consulting Marcel or myself." Elijah concluded.
"You know what the worst part is? It's that you're so predictable, I had to make an alliance with your brother, who I don't even like." Marcel told him.
Marcel and Elijah continued to tell Klaus that they had the witch Sabine put a protection spell on Davina and thus Davina was going to be okay. That couldn't be said about Tim though.
Klaus was walking through the Quarter when he suddenly noticed Cami walking toward him.
"I remember Klaus everything you had me forget these past few months. Davina did some very painful decompulsion on me and it worked. Made me realize exactly why I want to stick around." She turned to leave but then turned around and waved her index finger at his face, "Oh, and Klaus? If you hurt Davina or Josh in any way, I'll expose you to the world, and then you can kiss the French Quarter goodbye, forever. Have a nice night."
"For centuries, people have come to New Orleans looking for a fresh start. Looking to find adventure, fortune, and even love. During 19th century, young society women were imported from France with the promise of marrying a proper New Orleans gentleman like the legendary Casket Girls.
Little did they know that the men who awaited them were far from proper, and not at all gentle. Back in the day I saved The Casket Girls from a horrible fate.
The Casket Girls legend lives on, now celebrated in typical New Orleans fashion with stylish costumes and supernatural flair. It's a yearly reminder of how woman can be oppressed by selfish men and how they can triumph when brave enough to fight for themselves.
It is said that this is a man's world, and sometimes it is. But women are more resilient than given credit for." Rebekah finished her story, telling it in the Garden to Theirry who was still tied down.
"So, men suck. What do you want me to do about it?"
"Let's save that story for another night. For now, I brought you some blood to keep you going." Rebekah told Thierry and put a blood bag with a straw in it in front of Thierry close enough for him to suck on it.
[After Camille tells Klaus off, she goes home and Caroline is waiting for her there. Camille recognizes her and Caroline tells her "We need to talk. And I need your help. Camille asks if she was a vampire. "I am, I mean you no harm. We have a common former friend and I need your help to teach him a lesson.
Camille walked up the stairs to her apartment and was shocked to see a stranger waiting by her apartment door.
"Hello, Cami."
"Do I know you? You look familiar, but-"
"I'm Caroline, we met at Lafayette cemetery a while ago. You thought I was just some homeless girl."
Cami nodded, "Oh, right, Caroline. Now I remember. But you are not. Let me guess you are a vampire who was just in a bad situation at the time."
"Yes. Something like that." Caroline smiled a little.
"Does it have anything to do with Klaus Mikaelson." Cami asked, suddenly realized that all roads lead Klaus in New Orleans' supernatural world.
"It does. That's why I'm here. Look, I mean you no harm." Caroline assured her.
"What do you want?" Camille asked.
"Believe it or not, but I need your help. Klaus, the friend we have in common. I need help teaching him a lesson."
/([Klaus gets back to the compound searching for Caroline, Elijah tells him she's long gone, probably on her way to Mystic Falls. He gives Klaus a short letter from her.]
Klaus was going through the compound looking for Caroline.
"Caroline?" He repeatedly called out.
"She's long gone." Elijah said, appearing in front of his brother.
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about this." Elijah had a closed envelope in hand and he handed it to Klaus and turned around and left Klaus to read what was inside.
Klaus opened the envelope to reveal a short letter. He right away noticed Caroline's hand writing.
'Klaus,
Today I was reminded of why I pushed you away all that time back in Mystic Falls. You have no regard for anyone but yourself, I have opened my eyes now about it. I'm sure people closest to you like Elijah can deal with your… nature flaws, but I can't. I can't be with someone who is so cruel and at the same time so ignorant about it.
I do love you, but sometimes love isn't enough. Please don't ever contact me again.
Caroline"
Klaus froze up while staring at the letter after reading it and the crumpled it, feeling a complete rage attack coming on. Which certainly didn't bode well for the tourists taking part in the Casket Girls fair that night.
